What Came Before Hip-Hop?
@WillieEstradaMB , a true pioneer of the Latin Hustle and rocking, takes us back to the South Bronx in the 1970s - a time when hip-hop didn’t even have a name yet.
In October 2023, following Mr. Wiggles’ advice - "This brother drops gems. You need to visit him in the Bronx" - I had the opportunity to connect with Willie “MB” Estrada.
In this exclusive interview by Top Rock Bunch, Willie, now 68, reflects on his life as a cultural innovator and key figure in the development of the Latin Hustle. From leading The Imperial Bachelors, one of the most influential gangs of the time, to being a pioneer in the evolution of the Latin Hustle, Willie’s journey embodies the power of transformation. He shares how the dance evolved - from the first 5-step Hustle in 1972, to the Push and Pull Hustle, and later the Rope Hustle and Spanish Hustle by the mid-70s.
This interview goes straight to the roots - told by someone who lived it.
To dive deeper into Willie’s journey and the creation of the Latin Hustle, don’t miss his book, The Dancing Gangsters of the South Bronx: Rise of the Latin Hustle.

The knowledge is the key! ❤❤❤
Wow what amazing history! Thank you for sharing! How beautiful that Rock and Hustle dance pulled from so many influences to create something new and went on to influence the world! Excellent work Willie!
This was so dope. I loved the way it was just Wille sharing the story. Great job.
Bringing more knowledge and history on the surface, thanks 🙏

One love ! Great documentary.
respect 🤟🤟🤟
This was a great interview with lots of historical facts, that I didn't know about. I like when he said at the end they're going to show us the missing pieces of history. Does anyone know when will his documentary be released, or any information about who else will be featured in this doc? Great job, so far, but we need more details, this is long overdue! I like that he's being inclusive, and what he said about the power and importance of musical influence. ✌😎❤🇵🇷
Hip Hop is culture. Break dancing has been around years before the 70's.
"Resemblance " has to be applied across the board to avoid confirmation bias so, If Rocking resembles Top Rocking then it is just valid to say The Nicolas bros were the inspiration for Rocking, Top Rocking & Down Rocking, unless AA culture only occurs in a vacuum.....
The gang murder figures in the Bronx for 1972 suggest the 1971 peace treaty had minimal effect on gang activity. Further, The Zulu Nation wasnt conceived for another four years, (1975), after Soulski was murdered by NY police.
So the influence of “top rocking” came from tap dancing🤔 tap dancing came out of the jazz era. So basically you were influenced by dances moves from the black community.
