This video just randomly came up in my feed. I know nothing about cutting trees down, but I was hoping it would be a good chance to learn something. Unfortunately you used a lot of industry terms without explaining them, and assumed a lot of tree knowledge from the viewer, so I learned less than I was hoping for. Next time please explain these terms in painful detail for the uninitiated.

Its so easy to sit back and have the "look at these dummies" attitude. I like how he gives ppl the benefit of the doubt. All guys with experience know, sometimes it just doesn't go your way, 1 mistake doesn't make you a dummie, as long as you learn from it. Respect

All those dummies are great teachers. You laugh and you learn. And when you´re about to cut down a tree, remember all those funny videos, so you become the star on one.

Need to say this...I had a white collar job for nearly 20 years. Worked many hours to get what I wanted in life. Making substantial money until it all ended. Buy-out etc. Lost job.
I had to scratch a living so in my late 30's I picked up a saw. This was one of several irons I had in the fire.
13 years have gone by. I began with little to no knowledge and a Poulan "Pro". Now I have all Stihl, silky, Vermeer, buck, petzel, etc. I also have some knowledge.
Videos from this channel and others have helped me survive. Both financially and physically.
I wouldn't recommended to anyone the direction I took. I put a tree through a house. I had a branch break across my neck. Spinal fluid poured from my nose and ear. I still suffer from the accident. Both of those to incidents were my fault. However, I've avoided many from the information I received from this channel.
I have kept my lights on and food on the table and I thank you.

I'm not a professional but I've cut hundreds of trees down. Your video opened my eyes to several potentially dangerous situations, thank you.
A large branch fractured and was hanging from a tree in my yard. I put a ladder on the tree two separate times thinking I could cut it and drop it to the ground. I had a rope on it, also. After the second look, I called a professional.

10:21 hinge cutting is the term I’ve learned to call this. It’s common practice in deer hunting property management where they want the tree to stay alive and brush out to create a “natural” cover for deer bedding. Typically you’d do it in the early spring, not necessarily the dead of winter. Little fun fact I thought I’d share. Love your videos man 💪🏻

Conclosure: felling goes not always as planned and if you put on a ladder and cut something longer or thicker than your arm you'll probably fail.

For a lot of tree cutting fails, one can simply sum it up with "taking too much at once."
However, I can also see how it is "cool" and "manly" to fell a tree in one piece, especially also try to do some precision work at the same time.
Though, then there is the person taking off piece by piece of a tree that decides to catch fire beneath them, so sometimes even the safe/responsible way presents its own interesting dangers.

I live in Florida, and about 20 years ago after a hurricane went through, the top half of a 40 foot tree in my back yard partially snapped off and was hanging by some wood fibers. Being the genius that I am, I climbed up there with nothing but a hand saw to cut through that bit that was holding it so it could drop to the ground. No problem, I thought. I had no ropes, no chain saw, no experience at this, and no business being up in that tree. To this day I don't know exactly what happened, but when I cut through that last bit of wood, the top fell, the part I was on jerked, the saw blade went across the back of my left forearm really fast and cut really deep, and I almost fell. I'm thankful I didn't have a chain saw, or I probably would have cut my arm off. I've called professionals ever since.

It truly pains me to see some of our local 'arborists' climb trees and take off 50' tops, with limbs, with HOUSES around. They think they're quite good until the insurance claim clears and they're at the soup kitchen. I've been doing a lot of rope walking srt and working in Oak trees, and I rig almost everything nowadays. Why risk it?

Sorry Jacob, I had to put a thumbs down.
    I did not like:
    - the annoying background music
    - the picture in picture is too small, and the blurred sides are even worse
    - not taking the time to freeze and analyze the setup, what do you see..., what you do (and we) think will happen in that situation...
    - at times, you giving your feedback while the scene is not on the PiP anymore
Apologies, I don't know if I am super picky today or what, but you are best at what you do regularly.
That is my humble opinion. Cheers :)

Grew up cutting trees for my dad. One day he literally dropped dead. It was horrible. So I took over the business. I made a ton of money! It's a long story but ended up getting married and everything went wrong after that. I'm 47, I have duprytrens disease in both my hands. 3 of my fingers are completely bent to my palms and absolutely will not move. I recently sold everything. It absolutely breaks my heart. For one I'll never sniff that type of money again and between me and dad having the business for 40 years. I will say yes the money was tremendous but what your body endures, it's not a job for most. Just wanted to say my 2 cents. And to all the tree guys out there, BE SAFE!

I love your channel and subbed long ago, but I gotta self-report my fail 😑
My widowed mother in law, dear soul, had about an 10" diameter, 15' tall black walnut tree she was fretting about falling on her fence. It was leaning but nowhere near tall enough to reach her fence by a long shot, but she wanted it down, and no one else was available, so I grabbed my trusty Husky and hied my carcass on over there.
Long story boring, the trunk split vertically halfway through my initial cut and it crash-landed exactly where I didn't want it, in a thicket of thorned raspberry brambles and poison ivy.
    Go, me 🎉
Anyway, it was down and getting it pieced out wasn't as hard as it looked, and ma was happy, and the Gods of the Saw spared a little mercy on me. ✨️

I had one, cutting tall spindle trees that were trying to push for canopy access in my woods. The top caught up, as expected, but the unexpected part was when it jumped backwards off the stump and sat right on top of my foot. Didn't even have time to move since it only had 10' to tilt before meeting the next tree over. Luckily it was only a couple hundred pounds of tree, so I was able to lever my foot out without any injury.

Great video and commentary, here's two recent incidents from FarmCraft101:
Chainsaw caught in tree when part of the trunk is cut - th-cam.com/video/dzEBXHgE7do/w-d-xo.html
Branch through a window - th-cam.com/video/dzEBXHgE7do/w-d-xo.html (keep watching - John did repair it later)
Repair work on the dropped chainsaw from the first incident - th-cam.com/video/dzEBXHgE7do/w-d-xo.html (the saw was mostly working okay except for one issue)

Your dad says, don't let me catch you doing any of that crazy sh,,stuff. Well I guess there's always your twin, Randy. He would never do any of that craziness. Lots of love, be safe. Afriend.

Second green house was intentionally done .I've seen all these and this one they were laughing all the way through. House was slated for demolition but watching it get hit by a tree was entertaining none the less🤣🙂P.S ...I was fortunate to have a job in which an old cabin was slated for demolition. (6) 85'plus red pine trees were also to be removed .The first 5 did some damage but the final one blew the windows out 10 feet ! ...one of those jobs you say to yourself "And I'm getting paid to do this?"🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

6:50. What stubs? A hundred cuts, all really good, the final few might be for friction, cuz they have no known knowledge in the ground guy. Also, this guys rope is probably gummy and inoperable cuz of the pitch on the tree. Also, I do tree work with no ground guy, for years now.

I imagine that guy in the first video felt as he had no choice but to fall it in that direction, perhaps he is on the fringes of the cut block, or he’s trying to put it in a spot where the yarder can grab it.

So many people coming within inches of dying. Wow. Super lucky people. This video was super hard to watch after inbred jed died last year. Even the most thoughtful treework can end up with deadly accidents. Frustrating watching people be so careless.

This is the only "reaction" video I remember seeing that I didn't hate. I actually learned stuff. If you do more of these, don't do it any other way.

You did this wrong. Make the videos you're feauturing full-screen with you inset. That we we can ALL enjoy the Fail with you. Didn't enjoy this at all, squinting at the screen trying to figure out what you're seeing.

Also, can anyone guess who sponsors Jake now? (Hint: bars & sweatshirt)

9:20. Exactly. Cut too much holding wood, not enough wedge. You can make a tree go wherever you want with patience, skill, time, wedges and focus. It seems this guy didn’t have patience.🧐

A real professional can say, yeah that happened to me. Because,, things happen. Sometimes we learn the hard way. Those times are embedded in our brain. Yes I use a ladder. but i do not rely on the ladder. I use a climbing line to let myself down if things go wrong. I used 2× 24 ft ladders fastened to gether to gain access to a large EWP. The customers had some good shots of me on that ladder. I was tied in with a double rope system but it was not visible in the photos. I expect it to show up some day on TH-cam. Crazy man on a ladders. 😅😅😅

For an amateur like me, the most important thing is to know when to walk away from a "job". I've had a few over the years, and two of them are worth mentioning:
There's a dead 40 foot ash standing right next to a five feet almost vertical brink at a small, shallow stream. I've looked it over several times, figuring whether cutting it from the field side, letting it drop across the stream, having to buck the lover parts into the stream and lift them up onto dry land, or wedge it from the stream side, standing in that shallow stream with everything happening at eye hight. Neither option seems attractive, so that ash is still standing.
Two years ago, a 60 foot ash a few yards from my house and my garage split lengthwise all the way through and six feet up from the root in a storm. I had a few conversations about it with my landlord and we decided that we would not touch it, and subsequently he decided to call a pro. However, shortly after, in another storm, it came down by itself, even in the perfect direction, sparing both a beech and a very large ash, only knocking off one large branch and a third of the trunk of a small apple tree in my garden. Despite that, the tree still produces apples.
Last week my landlord I had to pull down another 60-footer ash that had tipped on the root and snagged another ash so hard that it also came down when we pulled the tipped one with a tractor, Another and much smaller snagged ash I could cut down without problems. So these days I'm handsplitting my part (we split the yield 50/50).
Remember to be carefull out there 'cause them there trees can be sneaky.

Wish I had video to share of the one DIY tree falling I've been witness to; you've probably seen a thousand of theese but the guy used stretchy nylon rope to lash a pine to his truck to try and guide it. Put tension on the rope by moving the truck, made the cut, and of course the tree didn't give a single shit about cheap rope and fell across a chain link fence and into the neighbor's yard as if it was dropped there on purpose

11:13. I commented on this video. I was called out! I said this guy is a fool, and then got inundated with idiots praising the fool. Bizarre world.🤣I think it was the reason I put up a couple tree work vidz from my phone. Just to prove I know what I’m talking about.

3:40 Jake really? Lets be real, does that guy seem like the kind of guy that can easily hold all of his weight with virtually one arm? Or maybe just possibly, he wrapped the rope around his hand/wrist. Like the greenhorn that he is, and then went along for the ride! Whenever this happens, u can almost bet ur bottom dollar that they wrapped the rope around themselves or their hand! Rookies! Supposed to let it run anyway but they think they so smart!

What was their plan? You asked. I don't think there was a plan. Lets see, if I take a chainsaw and disconnect the bottom from the top, it's going to come down where I want it to. LOL. And the ladders, OMG! I like the ones where the ladder is higher than the cut. You know long before it happens and you can make bets on how far he's going to go, or if he lands on the saw. Sorry, but I can't help but find the humor. Can you count how many people were actually so lucky. How about the guy where he hit the duchman, and the tree fell right between the two guys running to get right where the tree fell. They were sooo lucky. And all those other people standing right where it was supposed to go. What was going on there? Gotta go wipe the tears out of my eye's so I can watch another Guilty of Treeson vid.

There are two things I have learned trying to DIY tree pruning.
    1. Calling a professional is cheaper than a trip to the ER.
    2. Saying “I’m gonna try and do this in one shot” is only slightly safer than saying “Hold my beer.”
