I love this song. It just encapsulates that feeling of REALLY not wanting to give a fuck but being unable to let go, and pretending you never cared because it's less painful.
I think it's about breaking up too but i understand it differently. "[you] Can't call it leaving cause i never came" is like "you broke up but i never considered being with you". That's why when Josh sings "when you say it's dead and gone, i know it's wrong", he means he never attached importance to the relationship. At the beginning of the song, we understand he has regrets, he wants the girl back, but the last sentence (the tittle of the song!)comes as a surprise to tell he never gave a damn
miss jd you,re smart ,and it,s about friendship jealousy and paranoia ,beatifull song the same song as the long slow goodbye get me you,ve got it there for you can relate thnx miss jg
Poster of the video, vidiotmonkey; I know right! this song has long been one of my top favorite QOTSA songs... but not in the beginning. it just grew on me.. and than kept growing :D
this song is pretty obviously not about a guy breaking up with a girl.......When Josh sings in falsetto he is speaking as the girl who doesn't want to be with the guy anymore....he is begging her and telling her how great it was.....and she is simply telling him "I NEVER CAME"
I still think this song talks about not giving a fuck of what people say to you. The relationships interpretations seem legit and make sense but the way I approach the song is this one.
@jambi880 Buddy, there may be some that say this 'came' has to do with sex, but I honestly believe he did a poetical link between the line "Can´t call it leavin´" with the "I never Came" as if the reason he won´t name the split a 'leaving' because he never actually came in her life the way he expected to begin with... but it´s a rock band, I bet they love the duallity in it now... ahuahaua :D
I think it's more of an analogy of him never being present (perhaps emotionally) in the relationship to begin with. I doubt seriously that this song is about a woman who lacked an orgasm throughout her relationship: "Why'd you have to be so mean and cruel, The dogs are loose, I'm onto you. You ball-and-chained together from the dawn till dust. Can't call it leaving, 'Cause it's just... I never came..." Perhaps you were being facetious, to which extent, well done. If not, refer above.

this band has a deep sense of melody, something that most modern bands seem to have forgotten.
Underrated song, by an underrated band. Qotsa for life lol..
Love the bittersweetness of it. Like he's sad being above it.
