Steve said Mark's scratch tracks were as good as his final cut of the vocal performance . He wasn't joking , Lanegan has a beautiful soulful voice. Rest easy , Mark
This song reminds me of my oldest brother Jeff. I saw Sigur Ros twice with him at Berklee in Boston. He was a huge fan. He passed away on 2016 from an overdose. I found him dead in his room. I cry uncontrollably every time i listen to this band.
This is definitely authentic. Great find dude. For the real fans, it's nice to hear how the song went through changes. To the fuckwads that doubted, you have never had any recording experiences. The gist of the song is here, yes, but they were experimenting with studio trickery to present this song the best way possible. Listen to how the backing vocal tracks were untreated and listen to the final mix.
That photo of Mark is as cute as fuck..lol..referring to.Flanagan & the word ' cute ' in any sentence is wrong..lol..Listen to that voice...a rare talent ..Rest easy Dark Mark ❤ x
Josh has had such a ridiculous range in his guitar's voice over the years I don't think you have any right saying you would recognize anything. Compare Kyuss vs QOTSA or QOTSA vs Desert Sessions... sure, his style recognizable to some extent, but the man is so fickle and versatile with his tone and playing that it'd be pretentious to say such a thing.
This was a demo you.... you can tell by the experimenting with different sound scape's to create a cool concept for the song. Lanegan is the supporting vocalist on this demo idea. You can hear the same similarities on the original release.
This is almost like the Alt tracks from The Desert Sessions...this is one of my all time favs from QOTSA. The official version is really heavy/thick...this intro sort of takes away from that which is most likely why they changed it..
i agree with you slipper, just the fact you said a negative comment, people give you the thumbs down, i think thats stupid, it shows you really understand QOTSA, not those people who give you the thumbs down becuase of your comment
i love this version as much as i love the album version!!! but i really REALLY hope somebody can help me find any information about this, because this is the only evidence ive ever seen of any other version of the song being recorded (and it sounds really authentic!!!) im very glad somebody found this somewhere, but im so curious now as to where anyone could have gotten this.
It's the album version just an early mix, obviously they decided to strip back the beginning to just keyboard and vocals in the final version, also some other changes.
Tallulah Paslay I was going to say it could be off of One of the Dessert Sessions albums. Which is Josh and a bunch of his friends hanging out making music from what I gather. There are a lot of gems in the 9 I believe different albums like this one th-cam.com/video/14-3VzEBVmA/w-d-xo.html
@statictapes it sounds pretty authentic to me. a reference track? scratch track? and then just left to rot because the band is so tight they could cut the album version in 2 takes. you're right, the flanger is cool - i also find it suspect. i hear it cutting through the mix on the bass part clear as day. if they mix bussed that effect... tacky shit imo
I think rather then a totally alternative mix or version of a song it was In the Fade version 1.whatever and then the one on the album is the final version, so without this one the one we have on the album could never have been derived.
@Wastedcum Due to the number of people playing on each QOTSA album, that wouldn't be weird to have somebody else than Homme playin that part. And people, stop bitchin' around all the time, that's a pain in the ass. You think this is a fake? Alright, but stop bitchin.
I feel like people give this video thumbs up for the song they know and love. And I love the song, too, absolutely, but this isn't the famous version! There's lots of pointless additions in this version.
Steve said Mark's scratch tracks were as good as his final cut of the vocal performance .

Rest easy , Mark
RIP to a unique voice and talent
The best QOTSA line up in my opinion. RIP Mark.
By a long shot

It's terrible losing people we love, especially when substances are involved. Sorry for your loss. 😊
To my friend Jason R.I.P. 1981-2015

The picture and the song are very in sync with each other. It conveys happiness and sadness at the same time. RIP Mark.

Queens next album needs another ghostly Lanegan track
+Peter Griffin Well, that didn't work out :(

Seeing Mark Live in a week can't fookin wait! Lovin this version who cares who played what it's awesome!
That was the Blues Funeral tour, if I have my time correct. I saw it in Chicago. The last concert I’ve been to…kind strange🤷♂️
Everything about this song is gorgeous.
Headphones make it so good!!!!!
Have this on repeat

Love the acustic guitar at the beginning
Yep, it’s called mixing, and editing
That middle paragraph makes you sound really douchey and kind of musically snobby.
Wow exceptional recording. Should have way more views. Ain't gonna worry.
Complete and utter perfection
Love this song so much
I think it's a real alternative version because the ending and the backing vocals are different. In the fade is a masterpiece!
the end is the same, just that Matador layed Summer on it for some reason
The original fades out during the ending heaviness
the begin of the song it's, amazing!!, brillant, perfect... i love it...
thanks man
Love this song simply for the J Mascis vibe that permeates it. Ahhhhhhh.
producing is brilliant ! the sounds are moving in my ears !
Tis the phaser
+JL Maragel The panning is great halfway through with the headphones on!
Read this comment right when it got to that part of the song
making me dizzy
Esta es mi canción favorita de QOTSA, especialmente por Mark Lanegan 💔 siempre va a ser triste recordar que ya no está.
In The Flanger
How could 2 people not like this song ???
When I die I want this song to play at my funeral
Holy shit! As the video was ending that was my first though. And this was the first comment I saw. :-)
same
Best funerary idea EVER
Don't we all?
Same
The first riff sounds kinda lovely
RIP Mark
amazing version
That photo of Mark is as cute as fuck..lol..referring to.Flanagan & the word ' cute ' in any sentence is wrong..lol..Listen to that voice...a rare talent ..Rest easy Dark Mark ❤ x

Oh boy! The sludge is strong in this one
I love sludge..lol..My life through the 80' s & 90' s was pure smokeable & chemical sluge..lol..sludge & grunge ..it was ace 😛lol
Goodbye sweet prince
This version doesnt have that hardcore bassline loud enough...
RIP Lanegan

i want this photo!!!!!!
LIVE TIL YOU DIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEE i was drowning'
@Wastedcum that's not necessarily Josh, he does have other people on Qotsa albums.
Hmmm...even if it's not genuine I really do like the panned phaser/flanger effect in the second verse - nice!
dude where did you find this!?!?!?
Live version usually is...
keepvid + switchsound?
@NoLimit24 Especially when you're as blazed as I am hee hee haw haw
I know.
Where have you got that from?
you'd have to have the individual instrument tracks to do that
It's the sound of an unplugged electric guitar. It could be Jimi Hendrix playing, and it would be more or less impossible to recognize.
smacked
pretty rare
mark lanegan....

And people, stop bitchin' around all the time, that's a pain in the ass. You think this is a fake? Alright, but stop bitchin.
sounds like someone just fucked around with it in audacity... not calling it unofficial or anything..
Oh i see, you are the kind of person thinking that is a better fan than other people. I feel sorry for you.
mark died... god fuck it all
give me your email
I beg your pardon, rape?!
in the fake
I feel like people give this video thumbs up for the song they know and love. And I love the song, too, absolutely, but this isn't the famous version! There's lots of pointless additions in this version.
Needs a jew harp
This version is garbage. Unescessary vocals and effects.
RIP Mark
