I think it's a shame that people aren't told to react to the Director's Cut. It's way more brutal and way more fun! This is a great satire movie which pokes fun / points out corporate media, corporate structures, corruption & crime and touches on OCP accidentally making a product with a soul.
People git misconstrued that “it was Murphys, first day as a police officer….it wasn’t he transferred from the less dangerous (Metro South PD) and came to (Metro West PD) which is why the sergeant gave him the line “we work for a living down here murphy” after telling the sarge he was a transfer, and the fallowing scene he said again the place he transferred from”
... and if you listen carefully, OCP likely had a hand in his transfer because he was a candidate for the RoboCop program. They talked about transferring officers according to risk factor.
Not a noob. He already had years in service (Check the scene where Robocop is looking up Murphy). He only transferred to another precinct.@@dudermcdudeface3674

Great Moon Pop!! I was pleased that you corrected the date of the film (it's important), it doesn't happen every day, usually touchy people get offended if you point out a mistake, it shows that you're good people. However, if you enjoyed Robocop, I'll leave you a list of classic 80s action films that must be seen. I'm Italian and I'm 43 years old, I know what I'm talking about!
37:39 In my opinion, it’s exactly what Murphy did … he took revenge by finishing it where it all started at the factory when they ended up getting ambushed and outnumbered, trying to call it in only to not have back-up available. (Apologizes all, it wasn’t supposed to sound like a statement; I worded it wrong 😑)
I always thought the lack of back-up was by design (They did call for back-up, we're told it wasn't available; they decided to go in anyway). When Morton pitched his program to The Old Man, he told him he already had subjects under consideration. OCP was already controlling the police department by the start of the movie. Murphy and Lewis just happened to be the pair that answered the call to go after Boddicker and his gang.
@therewasacrookedman5892 Hmm really🤔🧐, I guess there's a scene or dialog that I seemed to have missed somehow? I'll have to rewatch the whole movie again on my free time.
@@ellie_jeann Just to be clear, it wasn't overtly stated. But if you take into account where OCP has already taken over the police department, and Morton's scene where he pitches his program to The Old Man, he specifically states that they already have candidates in mind. Later, when Murphy and Lewis go after the gang, The dispatcher specifically says "back-up is unavailable" , not that it'll be coming later, or for them to wait for back-up. It's just my conclusion that Morton already had a fallen cop in the line of duty, in mind for his Robocop project. It just happened to end up being Murphy, who just happened to have gotten transferred to that district when he is introduced in the movie. My take is that he wasn't the only one who got transferred to that district. "We work her for a living, Murphy"
@ Yep, I had gone back and watched it which you’re right. Honestly, I personally think they setup Murphy on purpose to get killed taking the place of the previous fallen cop (aka Frank) and if he wasn’t the only one; who do you think got transferred with him?
@@ellie_jeann Don't know. After the "We work for a living down here, Murphy" scene, We see Murphy talking to another cop in the locker room and mentioning he wasn't the only one transferred. All we know from Bob Morton was that after OCP took over the police, they moved "prime candidates based on risk factors". I guess one of the risk factors was working the sh*tty district they got transferred to, lol.
I would love to do a RoboCop cosplay, down to the opening thigh compartments and sliding gun holsters, but that would be time consuming and expensive to replicate. Maybe the gun holster is wishful thinking, but the outfit would be awesome.
The gun holster never actually functioned the way we see in the film behind the scenes... to achieve the effect, a full size prop replica of Robocop's leg was made that a puppeteer could pull a lever and make the holster open on the thigh. But the suit Peter Weller is wearing doesn't actually have the holster. Movie magic. I know, disappointing. If you can fit that mechanism into a wearable cosplay, that would be amazing.
