Adorei, Arith!
Some 15 years ago I was prescribed zolpidem for sleep, often I would take the stuff and not be able to sleep but raid the kitchen for some weird snack and make a mess. One night, sleep was not forthcoming despite 2 ambien, I made a mess in the kitchen and went into my workshop to do some leatherwork. To my zoned out hypnotic hillarity there was a frikin gnome sitting next to me, working on something while I was stitching leather, I tried talking to him but whenever I turned my head to so do so he would *harumf* and double down on his work while looking away from me, working harder and faster every single time I tried to make contact, I could only look side eyed at him in my periphery. I cleaned the kitchen and my workshop that night and left out a neat little saucer with a small sandwhich and a shot glass of milk. I still wonder about that little dude.
We are Australian living in Australia. My husband and I and our three children saw beings in our home on more than one occasion. They were less than a foot tall, wore a brown tunic of unknown material, but it looked rough, and a matching cap. We jumped up to chase it, not recognising it, and thinking it was a possum loose in the house. Not likely. We immediately searched the room it entered and never found anything.
Try leaving some offerings of food. No idea what such a being would like or if it would accept anything. But that's with all manner of beings,. including us humans. Each has a personality, individually and desires of their own. It's always a question of trying different approaches to see the behaviours and people learn from that experimentation. Many blessings to you and yours!
A friend of mine has recently told me that she's been seeing something that is very similar to what you've described. I told her that it sounds like a Brownie. Brown rustic clothing, shoes, and hat. Moves very quickly and she catches it most often or if the corner of her eye. She recently started noticing that there's more than one, and her dogs have also been looking in the same area after she catches a glimpse. They tend to adopt a family, and occasionally a property. They'll guard the home, people, animals, and barns. They've also been linked to small jobs getting done that most people never noticed needing to be done. Leave a bit of homemade bread and real butter, cream, oatmeal, or other such foods for them. Instead of giving them clothing, you can leave sewing scraps and thread in a basket (for your future projects 😉), and they'll go through it to take what they want as payment. Two things, though. They do not like to be thanked, so you say thank you to the angels for any assistance, and you can't give them clothing or even cloth. They'll feel beholden to the give which in their eyes is almost like a debt. They embody the concept of helping hands and a merry heart.
Cool video Arith! I think delving deeper on how the misconception of the red cap mushroom being the origin of Christmas came to be could be a great topic for a future video ^^ Also if I could put my 2 cents on the ugly appearence of the tomte/nisse on a pictural representation of the XVIth century, I agree it definitely looks metal and more interesting that the modern chubby version we have :) But I am unwilling to believe it was originally represented that ugly before the christianization of Scandinavia. I think its ugly representation at that time is just part of a demonization process of pagan spirits by the church. If you look at how household spirits were represented in other "pagan" cultures which were not christianized, you can see that they were not represented that ugly. Representations of Penates from ancient Rome look good to me, so do Zao Jun in ancient China and Kuladevatas in ancient India.
Thank you... bringing back the Strange and the Weird spirits, forces, and elements into our lives and hyper-local landscapes is the only way to begin nourishing relationships with nature and each other. We contemporaries, while having great teeth, are emotionally/psychically starved from subsisting on interactions and relationships that rely on comfort and convenience. Our sanitized, safe, and risk-free world-views have been reduced to a kind of gruel for the soul. Bring back the dark, the incomprehensible, bring back a Tomte (and house spirits) that at once help out, AND are slightly sinister and unknowable! Paradox is nutritious and delicious!
I just want to thank you for all you do and have been doing. I truly enjoy all of your work and appreciate your education and perspective. It’s truly refreshing from the other informative videos I’ve come across. Now that I found you I get excited to learn and experience what you have coming next! Happy Solstice ❄️ wish you many blessings and good health in the new year to come 💙
Thank you for your studies and efforts to share your knowledge on the pieces of authentic pagan practices and lore throughout the years. You never cease to enlighten and widening my perceptions and thoughts about past and present paganism and animism. No matter the origins of the Twelve Nights, I wish you rest, introspection and wisdom for the coming Solar year. Til árs ok fridr Arith. Blessed Yule to you and your kin and everybody here.
As a native English-speaker across the pond I've never heard the term Tomte, but this reminds me of a dream I recorded on my computer journal two months ago while I was in the middle of pathworking with the Goetic demon Botis, which featured a group of gnomes initially appearing in the modern form with red hats and beards: I went to bed and dreamt of a forest filled with evergreen trees. A lioness was eating a corpse amidst the forest. When she tore open one of the organs in the abdomen of the corpse, a bunch of jewels fell out of the organ. Some forest gnomes with red hats smelled the jewels and came to find them. One of the gnomes distracted the lioness by running around while the other gnomes collected the jewels. The lioness caught the gnome by the shirt and carried him over by the corpse before killing and eating him. The other gnomes brought the jewels down a hole that led to an underground gnome city. There was a machine with a circular panel with slots shaped like the jewels along the edge. The gnomes put the jewels in the slots and the machine turned on, emitting a greenish light while the circular panel began to rotate. The machine began to release a gas throughout the city. When the gnomes breathed the gas they became monstrous, with fiery glowing eyes and growing claws and fangs. They growled and began fighting each other before I awoke.
This video brought back a memory from when I was 16 and I was on my first acid trip. By myself in my room and I saw some orange glowing tomte parading along my ceiling. I was afraid so closed my eyes so they would go away and they did.
Glad I could bring back such beautiful acid memories :b jokes aside, thank you for sharing your experience, for real. I'm always interested in those. Happy season and trails. Be well!
I just added a Tomte to my sleeve I'm working on. It's a reminder to keep an imagination and creativity of my childhood as I grow older through this life. Also, the fun times and traditions my grandma shared with me.
I've had some 30 cm high brown beings in my house for a while. They were curious. I gave them small offerings. In German, I would call them Wichtel or Kobold.
Is it possible the beings in question can altar their appearance from their original one and evolve with us? I had an experience this year meditating where i saw brownies around my yule tree inspecting the ornaments about five of them, and they got excited when they knew i percieved them. I thought them Brownies and felt confirmation through spirit. Its something I'm seeking to reconcile these days. I think they allow themseves to be seen in any number of ways for us to comprehend what we're seeing, but I'm curious as to what others think
3:50 I just had this discussion elsewhere; the reindeer/mushroom theory was popularized in the 70s from R. Gordon Wasson, who suggested that the "soma" mentioned in the Rigveda might be Amanita muscaria, based on (supposedly true) reports by 1800s Western visitors to certain indigenous tribes........... except those folks were *far Eastern Siberians*! Even if true, not even remotely related to the Sámi peoples nor the practices of pre-Christian Northern Europeans. I have no idea who pushed that misunderstanding. (And the idea that it's true about the Siberian groups at all is of course suspect.)
Happy Yule Season Arith. I have a quick question for you I have a bunch of feather that I have found over the years that I want to display, problem is I don't want to ruin the feathers. I noticed the frame in your back round and wondered what if anything you used to put them in it. Thanks, love your content and glad you don't "follow the herd" with your videos. Take Care and all the best in 2025.
Saint Bridget of Sweden mentioned people not going to church and sacrificing to tompta gudhi (tomte god) in the 1300s. I believe that's oldest documented mentioning of Tomte. The name should derive from Tomt, meaning lot/property. Nisse comes from Nils which comes from Niklas/Nikolaus.
++ Jeremiah 10: "Do not learn the ways of the nations or be terrified by signs in the heavens, though the nations are terrified by them. For the practices of the peoples are worthless; they cut a tree out of the forest, and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel. They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter." It seems that the pagan practice of adorning trees with shiny objects is at least 2500 years old, and not just a modern custom. ++
First of all, I wish you, my friends, that you have a promising future, with peace and health and that Love, affection and complicity fill your heart with Happiness! Make and carry out projects, share them so that we can all celebrate your successes!🍀🌾🥂🏡🌟✨🎉♥🎶

Thank you Arith, always a pleasure listening to you.
Thank you my friend. Always a pleasure and an honour having you here. Thank you for listening and for your feedback. Many blessings to you, always.

Hello Arith, 🪶

This one dips deep into UFO land too.
Congratulations on 18 years 🎉
Hehe thank you! It's 8 years though :b

The etymology of the word is interesting. From what I can tell, it's basically just the Swedish word for a garden or lot.

Who can say no to a mystical phallus? 🤭
Been watching from pretty much the beginning
Where did your Scottish roommate go? He sure was funny.
Greetings from Louisiana and it does get boring hearing the same old things about Pagans.

I would like your cat as my household spirit.
My cats are cool household spirits, but one of them (Gigi) requires too much food before working properly as a house guardian :b
