- Arcade1up X-Men 2 years later, how did it hold up and is it worth $399? This is my favorite arcade of all time and here’s what I think about my first Arcade1up that got me into the hobby.

Sill one of my favorite cabinets after all the years. The look, the game, everything about it is so iconic. And honestly captain America isnt a bad game either. I never played it before i got this cabinet.

The arcade version of Captain America and the avengers was at many arcades in the 90s. It's 4 players too.
For console ports of captain american and the avengers, the Sega Genesis version is the one you want.
It plays very very well and it has the voice clips from the arcade version. The SNES version looks nice but doesn't have the voice clips of the arcade version and plays slow.

Arcade1up build quality is underrated.
I've had their Outrun cabinet and a Pac Man cabinet for 4 years now, played hard every weekend, and the things still feels tight and new.

I'll second that - people always rag on the quality, but I beat the heck out of my cabs (treating them just like I would in the arcade) and all of them keep on ticking.
Had this cab since it came out. Sold it to make room since I could play the games on multicades......BUT.......I just repurchased it because I missed the online experience since you can always find games to play with people (unlike other cabs). I am changing out the marquee this time. Good review. At $399 with coupons out there (I did Target and paid 340 out the door), it is worth it.

Seeing 6 people playing this on 2 massive screens is so nostalgic for me. Was only able to beat the blob, until I got arcade1up now I can always beat it. Lol. Phil when are we gonna get the $299 sale? Or $399 golden axe? OMG cant wait for xmen 97. Do you think they could pull off 6 player xmen if this was an xl?
I think we could see a 349 sale Kevin, this is too good for A1up to give away :) Golden Axe 399 will happen this year, but I’m leaning towards turtles in time because of the online, I could only get 1 or the other.. what do you think? If they don’t announce another turtles would you get it? 6 player XL is a day 1 buy!
Stopping at Synergy again on my way home. I want to see if the guy that was there last week is there again. Maybe I'll have better luck.

Enjoyed the two year follow-up review. Only one detail not mentioned, and that's how many hours per day, and how many days per week/year has this cabinet seen? I recently obtained this cab a couple of months ago, and it's a centerpiece in one of my arcade rooms You're pretty much spot on on all of what you said about this cab. It really is a great cab. I hate that I missed out on playing it, back in the 90s, when it was in the arcades. thanks for doing this.

Perfect timing on your review. With the lack of 1up announcements recently and with the doom and gloom of rehashes yet to come. I made the conscious decision to buy Xmen at the current sale price today through Best Buy. It’s one of the few cabs I don’t own, the cab alone used would sell for $350 on marketplace plus the stool? It’s really a no brainer. I have fond memories of the 6 player one as a kid and haven’t played this in over 30 years. So I’m looking forward to it. It’s a sad state of affairs when the community has to backtrack to 2021-2022 to find something worthwhile while we continue to play the waiting game on their $600-$700 rehash announcements. Only have spots for 2 more than I will be complete with 30 total. C’mon Smash TV and Track N Field

this was my 2nd cab , my brother found a turtles at best buy and i bought that b4 xmrn but i said that im not getting into the hobby unless i buy xmen .
Game is great and its the only old cab im scared to sell because i fear they'll never remake it, even though id love anupgrade to this to get a taller machine with a better marquee

This was my favorite arcade game of all time. Marvel vs Capcom was my 1st Arcade1Up. That is my favorite A1Up still (has zero flaws), but X-Men was my second A1Up purchase and I still absolutely love it. I play through both X-Men and Cap and the Avengers at least once every two weeks. I love the size of the four player deck; yeah it takes up space, but allows you to enjoy side art, and I love seeing my son and his friends playing this together!
It’s the best!! Hopefully we can get an online run through on a Saturday night, going to be sports for a few weeks and then back to X-Men :)
Be aware though that this PCB is not softmoddable like The Simpsons and TMNT in Time yet because it’s not Android. But, the deck for this has an extra button per player. I have some of the parts to build the upper part of the cabinet, and I have an MK Costco riser that I can reskin with X-men riser graphics I have since I have the MKII deluxe unbuilt. That has no riser. I bought the parts piecemeal on ebay over a year ago. I also have a 6 player X-men deck from 99 lives that I haven’t used yet. It’s preloaded with all kinds of 4-6 player games and such. I was actually considering selling it because they did the wrong buttons, I wanted concave not convex non lit buttons. The buttons that dip in.

Phil, Those games weren't really around when I was playing in the arcade but I agree that cabinet does look awesome and I would buy one if I had the room.

Nope. Even though he is not in the game. Gambit has always been my favorite X-Men character! He is not as popular as some of the others. But I always thought he was cool in the '90's cartoon.
I think he’s as popular Atran, he really became a household name after the animated series started and he was in just about every game to follow. I was always disappointed Colossus wasn’t a regular in the cartoon.
$399? This video was only 5 months ago but its' going for $500 and that's supposedly on sale. Oh well, I bit. Super cool cabinet!

I dont have this one yet, which is a shame because of all the nostalgia I have for it from back in the day. I currently have a Simpsons that i tried to turn into a WWF Wrestlefest and just have not gotten around to finishing. I might sell that to get this.....maybe an XL could come out?
Dude if an XL came out it would be the best thing ever! There’s always that chance we wait long enough and decide to buy and out of nowhere they give us Turtles & X-Men XL :)

Hey thanks for the shout-out Phil! And thanks for the review! I like the light-up deck LEDS. I didn't realize it came with coin doors. It would be interesting to see if they come out with an XL version, but considering how many of these there still seems to be, I'm guessing not anytime soon. I think if it drops to $299 I'll have to jump on it.... If I do, we gotta roll through some levels!

Its a cool cabinet for sure, hence the price never didnt to the closeout price, maybe an XL would drum up even more interest, PhilO are they bringing XL's to the market in 2024? I'm going to play some Xmen tonight with Black Hole that got me interested in it again since NWT is releasing it!
Play Colossus :) I’m starting 2024 with Deluxe and hopefully will finish with XL’s later this year. Probably leaning towards Legends cab too and playing pinball vertically. I think that would look great in the arcade. Do you have any interest in NWT Black Hole?
@@PDX7 I think these are super cool, esp if you do what 19k fox did, to just have them up on a shelf doesn't do them justice, you have to set up a miniature arcade with them. That said I don't have the room to really do this, I'm actually getting rid of stuff. My interest now is collecting Atari Carts now that I have the 2600+, finding sealed box games is really fun, look on the bay Atari ET for $39,995! So this is where I'm collecting brother Have You Played Atari Today!

I know my comment is 3 months late lol but I appreciate a review after two years because I have had a few people tell me they bought one of the first series 1ups that came out and after a while the joystick and buttons wore out and had to be replaced. So hearing you say it’s held up after at least two years tells me the company is using better materials on the later generations of games. I do wish they picked Wolverine, colossus storm or nightcrawler on the stool as like most x men fans cyclops is one of my least favorite characters. Good review tho man, decided to subscribe and gonna watch a few of your videos now.

I don't have this Arcade1up, but it's one of my favorite arcade games. I actually always played as Dazzler as a kid and still usually do, unless I play Cyclops. I really hope we get an XL version. I'll have to pull the trigger then. As a kid, I was lucky enough to play the 6-player cab often at Putt-Putt.
That was the coolest cab I’ve ever seen :)

It's funny, I've never seen a 4-Player X-Men commercial machine, only the 6-Player, though I do know they exist. I'm glad Arcade1Up was able to produce at least one variant of this game, I do love it.
I know I'll probably be in the minority on this one, but my favorite character to play is Nightcrawler :) I love the way he stomps up and down on someone when they're on the ground. And the kickplate on this machine has the best of both worlds. It not only has the faux coin doors (which I could take or leave), but also has the game logo's, which I'm a fan of (though it's easy to put all the game logos on this one since it only comes with 3 games). And I think that's my biggest gripe with this cabinet. And this is just a personal thing, but in the early days when I would've considered adding in a 4-Player cabinet, for the real estate these big boys take up, I would've needed at least 30 or more games on it to be worth it for me. It's unfortunate that Arcade1Up and their drip feed game philosophy, along with the obvious pitfalls from licensees out of Arcade1Up's control, puts out cabinets with so few games. With boutique companies putting out actual Konami cabs with all of their 4 player games included (a lot more expensive, though), I just wish some consumer friendly company could bring us out something like that. And yes, modding is always an option. But modding takes away from play time :)
I want to tell you though, this X-Men is a beauty. I was lucky enough to see this one in person at a Best Buy, at that $399 price point you got it at. And if it weren't for the lack of games, I would've picked it up. The controls are Arcade1Up standard fare, not the best, but decent enough, the marquee, though a bit washed out, didn't really bother me, and that monitor, so crisp, clean, and bright! I was very impressed by the display!
But there is one thing ABOVE ALL that makes the X-Men cabinet one of the most SPECIAL cabs Arcade1Up has ever released. This is THE FIRST cabinet to have more than one publisher's titles on it. Think about that for a second. If Arcade1Up could get Konami and Data East on the same cabinet, who's to say they couldn't get Konami and Sega on the same cabinet? Think about a new iteration of an X-Men cab, but this time with an additional 4-Player game included as well, Golden Axe: Revenge of Death Adder! And Arcade1Up also has Midway! We've always been stuck with the 2-Player version of Gauntlet. Who's to say Arcade1Up couldn't also add 4-Player Gauntlet to a Future X-Men cab. The Genie's out of the bottle and Arcade1Up rubbed the right lamp! Hopefully their second wish is to bring us that 30+ game 4-Player cabinet with games from all sorts of publishers. And they could offer it different skin variants like they do with their Namco, Midway, and Capcom Lines. Give us the artwork choices between an X-Men, Gauntlet, Golden Axe, and even Sunset Riders! Maybe 2024 is that year? For me, being with Arcade1Up from the very beginning, I just don't have that kind of faith, but it's good to dream :)
And you brought up something I'm hoping is just on your cabinet, but if it isn't, and it was removed via Wifi to all X-Men cabs, then my warning about Arcade1Up misusing Wifi is happening again. I warned about this kind of thing in my last video review. I was a victim of one of Arcade1Up's Wifi updates, much worse than yours, one that made one of the games on my Big Blue stop working altogether, Capcom Sports Club. And you mentioned a possible licensing issue causing the removal of Colossus and Nightcrawler during the intro when turning on the machine. Think about that. I know your licensing reason is speculation, but if something like that is true, who's to say you turn on your machine someday and the game Captain America and the Avengers is removed due to licensing issues, because it's not a Konami game. I think Arcade1Up is treading on dangerous territory right now by messing with cabinets via Wifi we paid our hard earned money for.

Sega Spider-Man 4 Player would be a major win on the X-Men Cab! Arcade1Up has to make that happen!
As for the claims some made about iiRcade's use of Wifi at the end of their business life, it did interest me that some claimed they had games removed from their machines by iiRcade, especially the games that people weren't supposed to see or get on their store. However... And this is a BIG HOWEVER. I own three iiRcade machines and 2 of mine stayed online throughout the whole time this was going on. I didn't lose one game. And I downloaded every hidden game (except for Metal Slug, because it was no longer available) using Mystery Encoder's instructions. And Mystery Encoder always warns people, do at your own risk. Who's to say some who lost their games didn't do something correctly? Easier to blame someone else I guess, someone like iiRcade.
What I dislike about the hearse regarding these allegations, is they came with NO HARD EVIDENCE. Nothing concrete other than people just claiming it happened. I saw a couple of arrant before and after screenshots, I think maybe one unverifiable video with claims, but NOTHING linking to any kind of concrete proof. No log or IP data showing the action from an iiRcade server, no hard email evidence showing anyone at iiRcade ordering it, nothing. And I'm not saying something didn't happen to someone's machine, but was it because of ill intentions by iiRcade? Because without un-disputable evidence, I'm not going to just believe it, especially when nothing like that happened to me, on either of my two Wifi connected machines, one Classic Edition and one Gold Edition.
I believe, and this happens to Arcade1Up as well, there are people who wanted to harm iiRcade's reputation. And what made it worse, is the company was already done, no need to put nails in the coffin. The only reason I could see people might be doing this was to take one last jab at iiRcade fans. And this is why I was SO CAREFUL in my response to you regarding the intro change on your X-Men cabinet. This actually might be only happening on your cabinet, it's the first I've heard of it. I won't be basing firm conclusions on one event. Arcade1Up may not even be aware that one of their X-Men machines is no longer showing the same intro, or that possibly one of their updates may be causing an issue. I only made a parallel, because of the many examples where Arcade1Up seems to be up to no good regarding their Wifi strategies.
I feel it's important to be careful on what's spread around and how it's presented. For instance, I heard that Arcade1Up had started an Ad campaign on their Wifi enabled cabinets. I saw some screenshots online showing this might be happening, and some creators doing some videos on it, including Michael B who said these ads wouldn't be a big deal to him, but it didn't automatically make it true for me. So when I spoke about what I heard, I made sure to preface that I couldn't confirm that it was happening, and I only spoke on how it would make me feel if it was happening, and my thoughts and advice.
And my big advice to it all, is don't always believe the scuttlebutt that gets thrown around. Seek out all the facts and then make an informed determination. I definitely will be keeping my eye out on your reported X-Men anomaly. And though it may seem a small thing, I encourage you to reach out to Arcade1Up and let them know about the changed intro on your X-Men machine. It may be an easy fix. And also, like Jester Tester, Arcade1Up may give you a statement that you can present as evidence as to what happened.

Thank you Patrick, to be honest I never noticed any issues with the sound. This has been close to perfect the entire time I’ve had it. It’s just too bad about the intro now gone.
updates, UGH. the one for Tron makes the spinner non functional, except for the push and pull function.
Very true sometimes worried about updates, eventually they force you and then you lose the X-men intro on start up

I am sure you are aware of the level skip cheat that you can do on TMNT Arcade1up with Raphael. Is this possible on X-men as well or just turtles? Thanks for answering. I could not find anything online about it.

@@PDX7 hey man if you TH-cam search it you’ll find it! Basically, if you hold down the start button for Raphael for five seconds, you skip levels in either the regular turtles or turtles in time. No one has talked about whether this works on X-Men or the turtles in time cab. If you hold down Donatello, then it restarts your current level.

Nah it's been $349 and $299 several times (at RC Willey). I got mine for $350 from Best Buy (RC Willey price match). It's one of the best-looking cabinets they've ever released, but the marquee is pretty trash. Still, it's basically a "grail" Arcade1up...they should release a Deluxe or XL version.
