Whitney came with receipts in her new video. Honestly, I get you’re frustrated but this video is terrible. I’m glad she cleared everything up. She’s been communicating this whole time! Smh and for you to put out this video shows that you didn’t actually check to see if she tried to alert people aside from the video. Shame on you! You’re not a champion, because if you were you wouldn’t be tearing her down.
Exactly, so saddening how it appears that one can take so much pleasure in tearing another down with an apparent desire for gain or to attain the level of success of the target of such negativity. Those with true and honest integrity can see this for what it truly is. It is my hope that she will hold herself accountable and to the same standards, she spoke of and wants to hold others to. EXACTLY. I said this same thing a little while back, and everyone was arguing me down. I’m so glad Whitney did her video, because it shows that this video was disingenuous and not an attempt to be helpful at all.
Maybe your hair wouldn't feel rough if you had applied the conditioner and not an oil first. Oil blocks out moisture, which is why you want to apply an oil on top of hydrated or DC'd hair.
Im seriously annoyd with her tbh..like she does things wrong or steps that would affect how the product works then complains when it doesnt work out....
After watching whitney's new video, it just goes to show that your video is completely based in ignorance of running business (like you mentioned), biased and pick & choose "evidence", and a completely one sided argument with the clear intention to bring hate to the brand. The brand did in fact keep in contact and update customers as much as needed but just because that frequency didn't align with your need, you get on your platform and spread misinformation like a child. Next time, you should use your platform more positively instead of bad mouthing the brand and the founder you so wholeheartedly praise otherwise. There's a fine line between holding a brand/person accountable and straight up bad mouthing and creating a biased narrative without any objective truths attached. This video is anything but objective and for that alone you should delete this video, sit with yourself and think about your actions and how you can do better next time and then upload an apology video with tears.
After watching her for so many years, I bet she feels really bad about all of this. I hope she is able to rebound from this setback, learn some valuable lessons from her mistakes, and go on to do great things. Hope everyone gets their products soon or a refund.
She will. The DC was very good and my hair was crazy soft, I didn't like the scent at first but I actually liked it once in my hair, smells like lemon grass.
I ordered it May 12th and just got it October 4th. The preorder was a mess but to me she kept us updated. I got two emails and one of the emails was a link to the video. The customer service via IG was amazing too. She definitely overextended herself though.
At least you got it. I never recieved it so I request my refund ...I ordered mines may 16th ..they claim it was shipped out end of Sept. Oct 22 went to check with the post office and fed ex. Negative results so the company gave me a refund

I ordered mine in May and got mine on Saturday. I did send an email in August because I was curious what happened since not on other social media. They responded quickly and I was thankful they included freebies. I know shipping is hard for lots of small companies so I understood but agree communication more would have been nice. I used it on my daughters hair yesterday and I loved it because it allowed me to detangle quickly because of the thin consistency. I used a steamer too. I love the geranium scent. My favorite product is the twist cream. 2 month braid still have moisture when I undo it.

This is worse than Camille Rose's Black Friday fiasco. Seems like a lot of these brands are overextending themselves but if you can respond to positive comments and promote other products, you can absolutely communicate with your customers about delays.
My nephew worked for me and I fired him for not doing his job. Still love him. Love and business are 2 different things. We love her so we supported her company. Her company let us down. There are consequences to every action.

Wouldn’t putting an oil on before the DC create a barrier between the cuticle and the conditioner preventing the DC from penetrating the hair shaft? U should try it again skipping the oil. Maybe you’ll have different results.
I ordered mine pre-order in April also. I emailed them 4 times. I got 2 response the other 2 dates were lies. The exact same experience you got. I requested a refund and got 9/23 as a ship date, then an update through my shop app. I have supported This brand, love the 3-1 conditioner (I use it as my leave-in), the shampoo and the oil, not a big fan of the cream. Customer service is as important as how the products perform. I understand the problems with shipping because of the pandemic. That’s not my issue, nobody can control that. What your company can control is the communication with your customers.
Angela Lee, the same thing happened to me! They only gave me updates when I contacted them. I asked for a refund twice, and each time they gave me an update when the product would be shipped. In September, I told the company that I have waited long enough and wanted a refund as I had requested twice before in previous emails. This time, they promptly gave me a refund within several business days. It restored my respect for the company. However, I will not purchase from Melanin Haircare again. The experience was a real turn off. I love Whitney, but her company has to be more professional. I wish her all the best.
I don't pre-order anymore nor any company that does not communicate with a paying customer (like Camille Rose Black Friday mess last year, it's been 11 months and I still haven't heard from them about my messed up order). Thanks for your honest review 🙃

I waited because black Friday is hectic for a lot of companies, so I emailed them after the New Year and nothing. The hardest thing was the products missing was what I really wanted, not what I was sent. Never ordering from that company again. Once I'm done with the products I have, probably never buying their products again. I found better products that SheRea recommended that my hair loves.
Yes, I ordered in May & received my order late last week. I did get annoyed with all the emails about their other products like the socks & no product update regarding the pre-order.
Whitney definitely has to get on her team about communicating to ALL inquiries! It's her brand and she's the one that's going to receive all the backlash! I do give her grace, this is a new company and she's experiencing growing pains right now.
If people say that they support Whitney so much, why not offer to help in real life? With customer service, admin stuff, managing her social media, etc? Everyone runs to social media to tear down, but why not build up and help a member of the community rise, if you can see they're struggling to do it alone?
She's a business owner, if she needs to hire more people, she should hire more people. We all have lives out here, we can't just be working for a millionaire influencer for free.
Support does not equal servitude. Consumers are not responsible, socially or morally, to donate their time and resources to businesses they support. This is really ridiculous. That was your right! If you had the same review for a mainstream brand, no one would bat an eye. I would have preferred an additional bonus deep conditioner, instead of a scarf, as a token of her appreciation but I hope she learned a valuable lesson from this experience.

I am OG Naptural85 subscriber. For some reason I didn't see the video where she launched the deep conditioner until the end of June and when I clicked on the link I was happy and a little surprised that I was able to pre order the product. Had no idea that would be a problem.
So I didn't order this product simply because of the $10 shipping threshold and figured it would be released in Ulta with the other products. However, waiting 5 or more months for a pre-ordered product is baffling. I understand a lot of things were out of their control, but I can't help but wish they would've kept this on the hush until they HAD everything they needed. I think we all want Whitney to win but damn girl. That will have ANYONE rethinking placing an order again.
I feel bad for smaller brands like MH- it’s not easy in these times. But they should be careful. I loved Camille Rose but no longer buy it due to not receiving my order one too many times & getting no response despite repeatedly contacting them & having to get my money back thru my bank or PayPal. Hope they do not lose customers b/c I would love for the brand to succeed!
I canceled my order end of July then bought it at Ulta last week. I absolutely loved that deep conditioner. I used it yesterday. It reminds me of mielle babasue mint dc but melanin is 10x better. Super moisturizing. It didn’t have much slip going on but then after 15min under a steam cap it was one of the best products I’ve ever used. I will be repurchase.
I pre-ordered May 7th. My order was updated on September 21st and she added a free scarf… but it still hasn’t shipped … I only got 2 emails also. I’m sad about this but looking forward to trying it That XL mirror is clutch, I love mine.

I used to watch Whitney's channel all the time when first figure out how to manage my natural hair. I am proud at how far she has come, but agree that she should be held accountable for this mishap. I have never tried any of the Melanin hair care products, but hopefully she grows her team to a sufficient size and does better. And your hair is FLOURISHING!
@@michellew4737 I think it's fine to say it did nothing for Your hair, but to say a product is watered down is quite a negative statement. The connotation being that they are skimping somehow. You can only know something is watered down if you know the original formula... And you don't. If you feel it isn't as creamy or thick as other brands, then make the comparison and say so.
This is the second pre-order that has failed me this year. This one I finally received after waiting 5-6 months. The product isn’t even that great and I ordered two of them. What I want to know is, can I send one back? It was not worth the wait to me. And I really wanted to love it. 😢
In general, I will never order from Melanin Hair Care ever again. It took over a month just for my shower mirror to be delivered. Whitney as a person is probably amazing but that delivery time was outrageous!
You spoke facts and I hope Whitney takes all the feedback and doesn't get discouraged but is able to make improvements. Communicate with your customers don't ignore them. I ordered back in April and just mine last week. I've used and like the multi-use conditioner and I'm hoping the deep conditioner works too. This process has not turned me off from the products themselves but has definitely made me weary of ordering direct from her site in the future.

So basically to fulfill the orders to Ulta and Sephora, MHC used the preorders for that. They ghosted the requests for refunds because MHC needed the preorder coins to get the product to U & S.
THIS is EXACTLY what I believe happened! 🎯 💯 🤔 She couldn't get the product shipped to her pre-order customers because she was busy shipping them to Ulta and Sephora! 🤨 Shame on Whitney and the Melanin Hair Care team. I'm disappointed. 😔 I hope they all learn from this fiasco and do right by their customers.
Just came across this vengeful video while submitting an order with Melanin Hair care. During these three years of Covid many businesses had problems getting their products on the shelf. Its okay to be frustrated but why being so negative, yet pretending to praise? I'm wondering if you got any new subscribers out of this. If it's a manufacturing or other problem out of Whitney's control, then how is telling her to hire more people going to solve the problem, when they don't have the product to ship?
What does not having products to ship have to do with sending update emails? My issue isn't and wasn't the shipping time. My issue is and was the lack of transparency and communication. That is and was within her control because they sent multiple marketing emails a week and posted regularly on social media. If you didn't preorder, you will never understand how horrible this preorder was for customers. I'm a creator, but I'm a customer first.

Do you think that the fact that you used the oil on your hair before applying the deep conditioner changed the results? The oil probably was a barrier and so the deep conditioner probably didn't fully penetrate.
I placed my order a long time ago too (whenever she posted the TH-cam video about it) and just received my order last week. It had a sweet card, a logo lollipop, and a scarf. I think she knows the delays are bad so that's why I had goodies but she should have done video or social media updates. Thx for the tips, I will plop on a plastic cap and get under my hooded dryer or without a cap under my Huetiful steamer.
Thank you for your review SheRea. So I did try this new deep conditioner. The conditioner does go on very smooth and my hair looked fantastic after rinsing it out. Also my curls had the best definition I've seen in all of my wash days. That said, I did experience a little shedding but not blaming that on the conditioner, could have just been my hair shedding on its own. I think that for me, I will try it again and this time I may dilute the conditioner with a little water (in case it may have been too strong for my 4b,4c hair). I am now on day 3 after use and my hair does feel smooth and strong.
I pre ordered mine in May and just received it YESTERDAY!!! She included a headwrap as a "free gift"... I haven't used the Deep Conditioner yet, but I hope it was worth the wait. This launch was a hott mess!! The sad thing is, the company didn't reach out and apologize about the delay, no email, no smoke signal, no NOTHING... BAD BUSINESS!!!

$32.00 is very reasonable for 16oz when u got folks like Briogeo charging $39 for 8 oz and Its a 10 and Curl Smith charging 29 for 8 oz. Yall gotta learn to do the math and figure out what youre paying per ounce. My favorite deep conditoner is $35 for 12 ounces and it is 110% worth it and still a better deal and performance than Briogeo!
I like the free wrap (will buy another), the lollipop was tasty. I didn’t like the deep conditioner at all. I’ll try heat and see if that works better. I wanted to like it soooo bad too 😫

I've ordered from the Mane choice w anticipation to receive and after a very very long wait w no communication, they chose to cancel my order w a horrible explanation. I ended up canceling my order, which included some other items I could only get from the melanin website, and just purchasing the deep conditioner from Ulta. Tell me why it arrived before I started seeing people posting that they got theirs from Melanin???? Anyways, having the pre order open and accepting more orders when they were on the midst of problems was wild to me and it’s the one thing I couldn’t understand or excuse ( along with the lack of communication of course)
you said EVERYTHING I was feeling! I checked my emails DAILY waiting for any updates but basically heard nothing. I just got my order today and I'll be washing my hair tmrw. I am curious to see what it will do my protein sensitive hair.
Okay ladies so I used it! I have collar bone length, high density, low porosity and protein sensitive hair. I usually do a protein treatment once a month but as this was a balancing deep conditioner I still wanted to try it. I used this on towel dried hair that I re-wetted during application. So I only used a small amount of product. I would say less than 1/3 of the jar. I didn't notice any immediate plumping or clumping for me which was really sad. But it did make my hair nice and soft. Afterwards I went in with the melanin leave in but that ended up being too much protein so I switched to TGIN Triple moisture leave in. It's the next day. My hair feels good, looks good but I've definitely seen and felt it look much better. Overall, I do like it. It's not bad. It instantly soaks into my hair which I like. I feel like over time it will work better just because the ingredients are literally food for the hair, but it's definitely not my favorite as of now. If you didn't have to wait for a pre order I would say it's definitely worth checking out. The wait really increased my expectations so it's not a surprise that i feel a little disappointed. And if you use on wet hair one jar should last over 3 washes. For me, I only like to spend 8 dollars per day on wash day. So if I buy a $32 DC, I need it to last at least 4 washes and I have no doubt this will last for me. I will be using this for the next month or 2 and then I'll try to remember to come back and let y'all know my final thoughts
I just finished watching Alexis and hollered. I'm quite sure I'll be doing the same thing with yours. We can love and support Whitney and hold her accountable for this at the same time. I think you're wrong about her not updating us about the preoders. She did so via insta and the Customer Service on ig was also very helpful atleast it was for me. Sometimes a customer has to reach out to the company and let them know what's up. In my opinion i do understand her especially that she's a small black business company. You saying she should hire more people perhaps you should put into consideration that maybe the financial part of the company isn’t yet there but obviously im sure they would love to just so they can make every customer happy. Lets not forget this was her first biggest mistake and I'm sure she didn't intend or forsee this mess.
Before I watch. I didn’t preorder but ordered from ulta and tried it over the weekend. I found it to be very strengthening and my clarified hair stiffened up like crazy upon application. I sat with heat and rinsed. Thankfully it softened up a bit. I couldn’t detangle with it either. I loved the scent and the packaging. And I’m hopeful that when my hair needs some protein this will be great to reach for. Oh and I used a 3rd of the jar-my hair is thick but short so I’on know HOW that happened. NOW ON TO YOUR REVIEW 💕

It put a bad taste in my mouth about the Melanin company and made me consider not buying from the brand. Fortunately, I did see the updated video Whitney put out about what really happened and was able to gain a more factual understanding of all that really went down. I say all this to say that this video could have done some serious damage in terms of Whitney’s and her brand’s reputation, especially at a time like this when brands like Mielle are switching up on their loyal black customers that have built them up and supported them for years to make a quick buck. This video also puts your reputation on the line as someone who can be trusted when it comes to reviews and isn’t a good look. If you’re not going to take the video down (which I honestly wouldn’t want or expect you to do since you put a lot of effort into it), the least you could do not be so dismissive of the role you played in spreading misinformation to your subscribers.

@@SheReaDelSol to be completely honest I was a little shocked that she didn’t blur out your name from emails like she did for others and I don’t think that was the right thing to do knowing how people on the internet like to jump down someone’s throat. With that being said she did have the receipts proving that she never willfully ignored anyone’s complaints and concerns unlike you said she had. And anytime she was made aware of an issue customers had with shipping (I.e. customers who place their order back in April not receiving shipping or tracking information for their products until after the customers who placed their orders in July.) She sent out emails and made a personal video letting customers know the issues she was having with shipping and offered full refunds for the inconvenience. She had open communication throughout the whole time although I do agree with you that’s she could have put out more frequent updates. I don’t know what it’s like to be an influencer or know what goes on behind the scenes and I’m sorry that you received a lot of backlash for this incident. But at the same time you lowkey threw the first shots when you put out false information and I think that Whitney had to make that video to protect herself from the accusations that you made. From my perspective this video comes across as you wanting to spill tea that wasn’t necessarily there and it kind of backfired on you. You weren’t wrong for speaking out against the situation that happened to you and many others, but the tone of the video and the manner in which you did it wasn’t very classy for lack of better words.

If that’s okay with Whitney and y’all, then that’s okay with Whitney and y’all. It wasn’t okay with me. I’m allowed to say that. I ended the video giving the DC a 7/10 (which is high for me), encouraged people to support despite it all, AND held a giveaway. But most folks never even got to the review and whose fault is that? We all want to see Whitney succeed as an OG to the natural hair game, but no business owner is immune to critique, large or small. Supply chain and small business issues defenses while partially valid, fall to the ground when your products are now perfectly stocked and shippable and big name retailers like ULTA and SEPHORA of all places, and like you said communication is always free. At the end of the day we need to respect OURSELVES as consumers who spend hard earned money to support these brands, it’s okay to have standards and still support a brand.
I ordered either in May or June and received mine last week! That’s because it randomly came to my mind so I decided to go on the site, it said that my order wasn’t processed. I received a notification from Shop about an order & I know I didn’t order anything. So I go back on the site, check Shop, and email them.. turns out, my package shipped the next day after that. THEN UPS lost my package so I had to wait some more

I was on the pre order in May n completely forgot about it until she sent out that shipping delay video. Then when I saw that it was available on ultra beauty online. I ordered it and was like okay I’ll have two but when I received my ultra order n Melaninhaircare still hadn’t even shipped I was like F** that just canceled it and give me my money back. Thanks for the honest review. Communication is key, especially when there are setbacks. As you said, being a small company is no excuse for going dark on constructive feedback. E-mail and Instagram posts are free! They gotta have unlimited texting in their phone plan. It would've been better for them to say Mid-October and get it to consumers sooner if possible.
I ordered in April as well and received mine yesterday. I got an email today saying my order shipped. My issues was with the communications regarding the delays as well.
That non-existent communication was not okay. Love Whitney but this was a mess!! Nobody should be upset about you speaking the truth, and you did it very lovingly & respectfully!
I’m still waiting for my conditioner as well and I ordered mine back in May. This preorder was crazy. I hope that I do like the product at least after this long wait.
Yeah I got a refund, I needed my $56 back because there was NO communication! I contacted and they said Whitney would address the delay but didn’t. I will continue to get my favorite Melanin products FROM A SEPHORA/ULTA! I hope she is healthy & well & is able to come back from this strong, and regain the trust of the customer base.

Thank you for this video. I had no idea this was available at ulta smh. I pre ordered in May. I inquired about my order last wk & it miraculously appeared on Saturday via fedex. Like you said no heads up no tracking no communication so disappointed. Glad you had a good experience with the actual product and thanks for the tip to use heat cuz I usually don’t ❤
I pre-ordered mine on April 20th and am still waiting, as well. I absolutely love Whitney and have been watching her for more than 10 years, but I’m disappointed. I have actually loc’d my hair since my pre-order and I’m currently not using any conditioners until my locs mature. 🤷🏾♀️

Hey SheRea, I've ordered my deep conditioner at the end of July and I'm still waiting. I dont know how much longer ill wait for it. Hopefully it will come soon. i went to the Melanin website and Whit doesn't even offer it anymore.

EXACTLY. I said this same thing a little while back, and everyone was arguing me down. I’m so glad Whitney did her video, because it shows that this video was disingenuous and not an attempt to be helpful at all.
Maybe your hair wouldn't feel rough if you had applied the conditioner and not an oil first. Oil blocks out moisture, which is why you want to apply an oil on top of hydrated or DC'd hair.
Im seriously annoyd with her tbh..like she does things wrong or steps that would affect how the product works then complains when it doesnt work out....

After watching whitney's new video, it just goes to show that your video is completely based in ignorance of running business (like you mentioned), biased and pick & choose "evidence", and a completely one sided argument with the clear intention to bring hate to the brand. The brand did in fact keep in contact and update customers as much as needed but just because that frequency didn't align with your need, you get on your platform and spread misinformation like a child. Next time, you should use your platform more positively instead of bad mouthing the brand and the founder you so wholeheartedly praise otherwise. There's a fine line between holding a brand/person accountable and straight up bad mouthing and creating a biased narrative without any objective truths attached. This video is anything but objective and for that alone you should delete this video, sit with yourself and think about your actions and how you can do better next time and then upload an apology video with tears.
After watching her for so many years, I bet she feels really bad about all of this. I hope she is able to rebound from this setback, learn some valuable lessons from her mistakes, and go on to do great things. Hope everyone gets their products soon or a refund.
She will. The DC was very good and my hair was crazy soft, I didn't like the scent at first but I actually liked it once in my hair, smells like lemon grass.

I ordered it May 12th and just got it October 4th. The preorder was a mess but to me she kept us updated. I got two emails and one of the emails was a link to the video. The customer service via IG was amazing too. She definitely overextended herself though.

I ordered mine in May and got mine on Saturday. I did send an email in August because I was curious what happened since not on other social media. They responded quickly and I was thankful they included freebies. I know shipping is hard for lots of small companies so I understood but agree communication more would have been nice. I used it on my daughters hair yesterday and I loved it because it allowed me to detangle quickly because of the thin consistency. I used a steamer too. I love the geranium scent. My favorite product is the twist cream. 2 month braid still have moisture when I undo it.

Wouldn’t putting an oil on before the DC create a barrier between the cuticle and the conditioner preventing the DC from penetrating the hair shaft? U should try it again skipping the oil. Maybe you’ll have different results.

I ordered mine pre-order in April also. I emailed them 4 times. I got 2 response the other 2 dates were lies. The exact same experience you got. I requested a refund and got 9/23 as a ship date, then an update through my shop app. I have supported This brand, love the 3-1 conditioner (I use it as my leave-in), the shampoo and the oil, not a big fan of the cream. Customer service is as important as how the products perform. I understand the problems with shipping because of the pandemic. That’s not my issue, nobody can control that. What your company can control is the communication with your customers.

Angela Lee, the same thing happened to me! They only gave me updates when I contacted them. I asked for a refund twice, and each time they gave me an update when the product would be shipped. In September, I told the company that I have waited long enough and wanted a refund as I had requested twice before in previous emails. This time, they promptly gave me a refund within several business days. It restored my respect for the company. However, I will not purchase from Melanin Haircare again. The experience was a real turn off. I love Whitney, but her company has to be more professional. I wish her all the best.

I waited because black Friday is hectic for a lot of companies, so I emailed them after the New Year and nothing. The hardest thing was the products missing was what I really wanted, not what I was sent. Never ordering from that company again. Once I'm done with the products I have, probably never buying their products again. I found better products that SheRea recommended that my hair loves.

If people say that they support Whitney so much, why not offer to help in real life? With customer service, admin stuff, managing her social media, etc? Everyone runs to social media to tear down, but why not build up and help a member of the community rise, if you can see they're struggling to do it alone?
She's a business owner, if she needs to hire more people, she should hire more people. We all have lives out here, we can't just be working for a millionaire influencer for free.

Does applying oil coat your strands preventing any product from actually penetrating? Oil molecules are large and often too large to be absorbed.
A quick google search would tell you that hair loves and absorbs oil.

I am OG Naptural85 subscriber. For some reason I didn't see the video where she launched the deep conditioner until the end of June and when I clicked on the link I was happy and a little surprised that I was able to pre order the product. Had no idea that would be a problem.
But that plumping deep conditioner is the TRUTH! Whew!!
So I didn't order this product simply because of the $10 shipping threshold and figured it would be released in Ulta with the other products. However, waiting 5 or more months for a pre-ordered product is baffling. I understand a lot of things were out of their control, but I can't help but wish they would've kept this on the hush until they HAD everything they needed. I think we all want Whitney to win but damn girl. That will have ANYONE rethinking placing an order again.

I canceled my order end of July then bought it at Ulta last week. I absolutely loved that deep conditioner. I used it yesterday. It reminds me of mielle babasue mint dc but melanin is 10x better. Super moisturizing. It didn’t have much slip going on but then after 15min under a steam cap it was one of the best products I’ve ever used. I will be repurchase.

I used to watch Whitney's channel all the time when first figure out how to manage my natural hair. I am proud at how far she has come, but agree that she should be held accountable for this mishap. I have never tried any of the Melanin hair care products, but hopefully she grows her team to a sufficient size and does better.

This is the second pre-order that has failed me this year. This one I finally received after waiting 5-6 months. The product isn’t even that great and I ordered two of them. What I want to know is, can I send one back? It was not worth the wait to me. And I really wanted to love it. 😢
In general, I will never order from Melanin Hair Care ever again. It took over a month just for my shower mirror to be delivered. Whitney as a person is probably amazing but that delivery time was outrageous!

I ordered back in April and just mine last week. I've used and like the multi-use conditioner and I'm hoping the deep conditioner works too. So basically to fulfill the orders to Ulta and Sephora, MHC used the preorders for that. They ghosted the requests for refunds because MHC needed the preorder coins to get the product to U & S.

Just came across this vengeful video while submitting an order with Melanin Hair care. During these three years of Covid many businesses had problems getting their products on the shelf. Its okay to be frustrated but why being so negative, yet pretending to praise? I'm wondering if you got any new subscribers out of this. If it's a manufacturing or other problem out of Whitney's control, then how is telling her to hire more people going to solve the problem, when they don't have the product to ship?
What does not having products to ship have to do with sending update emails? My issue isn't and wasn't the shipping time. My issue is and was the lack of transparency and communication. That is and was within her control because they sent multiple marketing emails a week and posted regularly on social media. If you didn't preorder, you will never understand how horrible this preorder was for customers. I'm a creator, but I'm a customer first.

Do you think that the fact that you used the oil on your hair before applying the deep conditioner changed the results? The oil probably was a barrier and so the deep conditioner probably didn't fully penetrate.
Why would I do something that isn’t effective? 😂😂 I do this every week. I tried on a section without oil and trust me, the oil helped.

I placed my order a long time ago too (whenever she posted the TH-cam video about it) and just received my order last week. It had a sweet card, a logo lollipop, and a scarf. I think she knows the delays are bad so that's why I had goodies but she should have done video or social media updates. Thx for the tips, I will plop on a plastic cap and get under my hooded dryer or without a cap under my Huetiful steamer.

Thank you for your review SheRea. So I did try this new deep conditioner. The conditioner does go on very smooth and my hair looked fantastic after rinsing it out. Also my curls had the best definition I've seen in all of my wash days. That said, I did experience a little shedding but not blaming that on the conditioner, could have just been my hair shedding on its own. I think that for me, I will try it again and this time I may dilute the conditioner with a little water (in case it may have been too strong for my 4b,4c hair). I am now on day 3 after use and my hair does feel smooth and strong.

$32.00 is very reasonable for 16oz when u got folks like Briogeo charging $39 for 8 oz and Its a 10 and Curl Smith charging 29 for 8 oz. Yall gotta learn to do the math and figure out what youre paying per ounce. My favorite deep conditoner is $35 for 12 ounces and it is 110% worth it and still a better deal and performance than Briogeo!

I like the free wrap (will buy another), the lollipop was tasty. I didn’t like the deep conditioner at all. I’ll try heat and see if that works better. I wanted to like it soooo bad too 😫
Give MH a break. Ur comment on the product is definitely ur opinion but she deserves more respect. Things happened. I've ordered from the Mane choice w anticipation to receive and after a very very long wait w no communication, they chose to cancel my order w a horrible explanation. I look forward to seeing this company prosper. Lets try and be more positive. Less negative!!! Btw, perhaps ur results came from you mixing it with oil instead of just using the product by itself.

i started getting nervous when i saw the product sitting on top of your curls! i have low porosity hair so its usually a bad sign for me. im glad you said it was still very softening! i'd love to try it if it weren't for the price.

Uno use. But I typically use 6-8 ozs per use. I am not shocked by this.

I preordered too and I got none (nada) update. Every time I called, it was coming and expect an email. And before someone say,yes, I checked my spam. I got mine last week. Have to say I wasn’t wowed in the least bit. Especially for $32
I absolutely agree with you. I wanted to be supportive and understanding but it just became too much. I ended up canceling my order, which included some other items I could only get from the melanin website, and just purchasing the deep conditioner from Ulta. Tell me why it arrived before I started seeing people posting that they got theirs from Melanin????
Anyways, having the pre order open and accepting more orders when they were on the midst of problems was wild to me and it’s the one thing I couldn’t understand or excuse ( along with the lack of communication of course)

Okay ladies so I used it!
I have collar bone length, high density, low porosity and protein sensitive hair. I usually do a protein treatment once a month but as this was a balancing deep conditioner I still wanted to try it. I used this on towel dried hair that I re-wetted during application. So I only used a small amount of product. I would say less than 1/3 of the jar. I didn't notice any immediate plumping or clumping for me which was really sad. But it did make my hair nice and soft. Afterwards I went in with the melanin leave in but that ended up being too much protein so I switched to TGIN Triple moisture leave in. It's the next day. My hair feels good, looks good but I've definitely seen and felt it look much better.
Overall, I do like it. It's not bad. It instantly soaks into my hair which I like. I feel like over time it will work better just because the ingredients are literally food for the hair, but it's definitely not my favorite as of now. If you didn't have to wait for a pre order I would say it's definitely worth checking out. The wait really increased my expectations so it's not a surprise that i feel a little disappointed.
And if you use on wet hair one jar should last over 3 washes. For me, I only like to spend 8 dollars per day on wash day. So if I buy a $32 DC, I need it to last at least 4 washes and I have no doubt this will last for me. I will be using this for the next month or 2 and then I'll try to remember to come back and let y'all know my final thoughts

I think you're wrong about her not updating us about the preoders. She did so via insta and the Customer Service on ig was also very helpful atleast it was for me. Sometimes a customer has to reach out to the company and let them know what's up. In my opinion i do understand her especially that she's a small black business company. You saying she should hire more people perhaps you should put into consideration that maybe the financial part of the company isn’t yet there but obviously im sure they would love to just so they can make every customer happy. Lets not forget this was her first biggest mistake and I'm sure she didn't intend or forsee this mess.

Before I watch. I didn’t preorder but ordered from ulta and tried it over the weekend. I found it to be very strengthening and my clarified hair stiffened up like crazy upon application. I sat with heat and rinsed. Thankfully it softened up a bit. I couldn’t detangle with it either. I loved the scent and the packaging. And I’m hopeful that when my hair needs some protein this will be great to reach for. Oh and I used a 3rd of the jar-my hair is thick but short so I’on know HOW that happened. NOW ON TO YOUR REVIEW 💕

@@SheReaDelSol Not gonna lie I’m not here to argue with you or talk down on you, but it doesn’t really matter that this video is three months old because this is the first time that I’m hearing of this situation and it’s because of you. It put a bad taste in my mouth about the Melanin company and made me consider not buying from the brand. Fortunately, I did see the updated video Whitney put out about what really happened and was able to gain a more factual understanding of all that really went down.
I say all this to say that this video could have done some serious damage in terms of Whitney’s and her brand’s reputation, especially at a time like this when brands like Mielle are switching up on their loyal black customers that have built them up and supported them for years to make a quick buck. This video also puts your reputation on the line as someone who can be trusted when it comes to reviews and isn’t a good look. If you’re not going to take the video down (which I honestly wouldn’t want or expect you to do since you put a lot of effort into it), the least you could do not be so dismissive of the role you played in spreading misinformation to your subscribers.

Whether I’m an influencer or not, I’m a Melanin customer first and Whitney (Like Mielle) used private customer information to fulfill a personal agenda. Did I call her out publicly? No. I let it go and moved on.

@@SheReaDelSol to be completely honest I was a little shocked that she didn’t blur out your name from emails like she did for others and I don’t think that was the right thing to do knowing how people on the internet like to jump down someone’s throat. With that being said she did have the receipts proving that she never willfully ignored anyone’s complaints and concerns unlike you said she had. And anytime she was made aware of an issue customers had with shipping (I.e. customers who place their order back in April not receiving shipping or tracking information for their products until after the customers who placed their orders in July.) She sent out emails and made a personal video letting customers know the issues she was having with shipping and offered full refunds for the inconvenience. She had open communication throughout the whole time although I do agree with you that’s she could have put out more frequent updates.
I don’t know what it’s like to be an influencer or know what goes on behind the scenes and I’m sorry that you received a lot of backlash for this incident. But at the same time you lowkey threw the first shots when you put out false information and I think that Whitney had to make that video to protect herself from the accusations that you made. From my perspective this video comes across as you wanting to spill tea that wasn’t necessarily there and it kind of backfired on you. You weren’t wrong for speaking out against the situation that happened to you and many others, but the tone of the video and the manner in which you did it wasn’t very classy for lack of better words.
@@ashleyl.6898 Melanin haircare sent out two emails between when I ordered in April and this video going live in October. TWO emails about orders when marketing emails about socks went out regularly. If that’s okay with Whitney and y’all, then that’s okay with Whitney and y’all. It wasn’t okay with me. I’m allowed to say that. I ended the video giving the DC a 7/10 (which is high for me), encouraged people to support despite it all, AND held a giveaway. But most folks never even got to the review and whose fault is that? If that’s not good enough for Whitney and y’all, then that’s just what it’s going to be. I’m not losing sleep and Whitney isn’t losing any money. I hope everyone commenting is buying the product. That’s what this was all about in the first place.

We all want to see Whitney succeed as an OG to the natural hair game, but no business owner is immune to critique, large or small. Supply chain and small business issues defenses while partially valid, fall to the ground when your products are now perfectly stocked and shippable and big name retailers like ULTA and SEPHORA of all places, and like you said communication is always free.
At the end of the day we need to respect OURSELVES as consumers who spend hard earned money to support these brands, it’s okay to have standards and still support a brand.
We want our brand owners to thrive but not at our detriment ❤️
I ordered either in May or June and received mine last week! That’s because it randomly came to my mind so I decided to go on the site, it said that my order wasn’t processed. I received a notification from Shop about an order & I know I didn’t order anything. So I go back on the site, check Shop, and email them.. turns out, my package shipped the next day after that. THEN UPS lost my package so I had to wait some more

Thanks for the honest review. Communication is key, especially when there are setbacks. As you said, being a small company is no excuse for going dark on constructive feedback. E-mail and Instagram posts are free! They gotta have unlimited texting in their phone plan. It would've been better for them to say Mid-October and get it to consumers sooner if possible.

I ordered in April as well and received mine yesterday. I got an email today saying my order shipped. My issues was with the communications regarding the delays as well.

Yeah I got a refund, I needed my $56 back because there was NO communication! I contacted and they said Whitney would address the delay but didn’t. I will continue to get my favorite Melanin products FROM A SEPHORA/ULTA! I hope she is healthy & well & is able to come back from this strong, and regain the trust of the customer base.

Thank you for this video. I had no idea this was available at ulta smh. I pre ordered in May. I inquired about my order last wk & it miraculously appeared on Saturday via fedex. Like you said no heads up no tracking no communication so disappointed. Glad you had a good experience with the actual product and thanks for the tip to use heat cuz I usually don’t ❤

I pre-ordered mine on April 20th and am still waiting, as well. I absolutely love Whitney and have been watching her for more than 10 years, but I’m disappointed. I have actually loc’d my hair since my pre-order and I’m currently not using any conditioners until my locs mature. 🤷🏾♀️
