Just the video I needed to see. A side by side comparison (literally) with the doors and features. Couldn’t decide between the two as the door and sunroof is the deciding point.
I wonder if McLaren added a bit off horsepower to compensate for that bit of weight so customers didn't feel as if there losing anything, and ended up making it faster.
The tire pressure in the spyder was 37 at the rear and coupe 33 psi at the end of the run you must have to make the test again with the same tire pressure on both🧐
I agree. Perhaps the reason why the coupe spun more. Believe it or not folks, these street Pzero Pirellis like a little more psi for better grip vs lower psi. The sidewalls are hard and at low psi and for straight line performance, it means you're riding more on the tire edge vs on the center of the tire - less center tire contact usually translate to greater wheel spin. I've found that these stock Pzeros rear perform best with hot psi between 37 & 39 psi...personally, I like them at 38psi hot!

The PSI doesn't matter as much as trying to launch on bascially dust. All that matters is the surface when you're launching the same tire n car. It's clearly proven that the car that spun less and highest PSI in the tire had the best 0-60.

I realize Florida isn’t the best place to notice a significant difference in rigidity, with those relatively smooth roads

My coupe started getting more pops and crackles after my first annual service, it's from an software update on the engine control unit. If you get the latest updates on your coupe, exhaust should be the same as the Spider.
I agree, you can tell with the small things like door unlocking speed that Brooks pointed out that McLaren are definitely looking at improving bits with newer models, so all these people that think Mclarens are totally unreliable especially with electronics McLaren is trying to put these right with newer models, for a very young company it's inevitable they will have teething problems don't forget they have only been building production cars for about 10 years, and to be able to compete with the companies that have been doing this for over half a century is very impressive, people seem to forget that but this proves they are not just sat on their laurels they are improving known problems and upgrading technology all the time, ironing out faults at the same time as competing and sometimes beating bespoke car companies that have been around since WW2!!! Where will they be in another ten years at this rate? Probably out in front!

There is an update that does play with the engine mapping, either it makes power or no, idk but the sport button shifting for sure has more agressive timing cut and there are for sure more pops.
Brooks, did you remember to check the tire type settings on both cars, more specifically yours since you changed them? Those settings govern the traction control on the car and dial it in more. Just want to make sure because that is one feature NOBODY ever talks about on these cars. Hell, maybe they just don’t know it’s there.

I think the weight from the roof sitting on the rear probably helps with launching. If you look at the 100-150 etc, the coupe was a hair faster at each...which could be explained through weight differences. I just don’t think the lighter weight with the coup, made up for the better launch in the drop top. 🤷🏼♂️
Damn, the spider version does not sacrifice anything at all, neither performance nor aesthetics. AND that single piece roof is the most elegant solution of retractable hard top I've ever seen. Just perfect.

The only reason anyone would choose the coupe now over the spyda is only down to the price! McLaren should definitely hook Brooks up with a spyda, and if they do I think you could probably get coloured carbon that they do for the Senna! A black spyda with black wheels red callipers and reddish carbon would be my spec!

They added more cracks and pops to the stock exhaust of the 570 spyder compared to the coupe as well probably to add to the drama of the top down experience and makes the extra money spent more worth it
As an owner of a 2016 570S Coupe with factory Sport Exhaust I noticed this too on a recent Spider test drive. However, it’s worth noting that it is called something different and has a higher option price.....on my window sticker I believe it was around $3k and just says Sport Exhaust, on the Spider i drove it was like $5,600 and called MSO Sport Exhaust or something slightly different. I could be off on the exact numbers or terms but you are correct it sounded much better and mine only occasionally cracks on downshifts where the new and improved one does much more and sounds less nasally and flat
So a little more weight on the back of the car helped? You could test the theory by placing some extra weigh behind your seat. Rear weight is why Porsche's do well, in general, off the line.

Really thinking of a 570s to replace my 911 GTS. Have a look at my vids, I like to drive my cars, so don’t really want a car that will burn when pushed. The Porsche is ultra reliable when it’s beaten on.
@@hindsite275 There are a lot of incidents.3 or 4 Sennas and 2-3 600LTs have caught on fire (that's a lot in such a sort period of time) I suppose it's because these two cars are using the same engine variation ( and something is not right about the latest iteration ) I haven't heard of a 570s catching on fire so it would be a safe upgrade (but probably less reliable than a Porsche)
Only thing i disagree with you on is your price scoring 10/10.. 380k is just an insane amount of money that 99.9% of people will never even be able to afford. This alone should give it less than a 10. Maybe a 7.. other than that great video.

Most if not all manufacturers with convertible top usually weighs 3-400lbs more than their coupe counterpart, McLaren found a way, Alien technology.
Looks like the extra weight gave a slight launch advantage but otherwise darn close.

Any comment re rigidity loss and if it's noticeable irl? Apparently it's not the same as their other models and extra bracing was required.
