- The 720S Spider is McLaren's answer to the competition from Ferrari, Lamborghini & Porsche. Under the engine cover is a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 that pumps out 710HP & mated to a 7-speed DCT. On the outside you will find a slippery shape, retractable hardtop, forged wheels, and carbon ceramic rotors. On the inside you will be sitting in a full carbon fiber tub, with one-piece sport seats, and alcantara covering every inch. Is the McLaren 720S a BETTER performance car than a 2021 911 Turbo S?

A decade of rapid development, analysis, improvement etc has resulted in what is a truly game changing bunch of vehicles that have redefined what was thought possible in the particular sector each car competes in!
And with the 720S and the 765LT you can choose between the greatest all rounder of a hyper supercar (720S) with game changing steering, ride, handing & stability (thanks to revolutionary active suspension and active aerodynamics), braking, shifting, acceleration (710hp at the wheels means 800hp+ at the crank where Porsche Ferrari and everyone usually measures it), weight, visibility, usability and comfort (360deg cameras, photo/cro glass, multiple seat choices and class leading storage) and awesome styling OR you can choose to go for the full hardcore performance version with the 765LT and coupé or spider - either way - widely agreed - not just the best - but in a league of their own above all else!!!

I live in Vancouver, Canada and we are in Supercar territory here. Many fantastic vehicles on the roads weather permitting.
So many standard features that the McLaren has the advantage over its competitors in this segment (IMO):
a) Comfort mode is really nice-easily a daily driver that doesn't beat u up
b) That CF monocoque chassis is simply racing car technology at its BEST
c) Those rocket style shift paddles are great. I can shift while hanging onto my morning coffee with the top down and beat 99% of the cars out there while using 1 hand:-)
d) Those doors on a spyder - Just plain SWEET
e) This and F8 Spyder are very close on performance and thrill seeking excitement.
For me its the 720S in McLaren orange with black interior leather pack (w/orange lowers & piping), leather steering wheel, and MEGA CF int & ext.
About $420K Cdn if you can find one locally.

I love the 720s but I’ve heard it’s one of the least reliable super cars.
Super cars are generally not reliable but this one is on another level of bad apparently.
It’s a British car m8, what do you expect? And most people who can afford something like this don’t give a eff about reliablity cuz they got too much money and lots of other back up cars lol

I think the McLaren 720S is the best looking super car I've ever seen. And the spider version takes it up a notch.
I didn't know anything about the car before, other than it's stunning looks and rip your face off performance.
So actually hearing about the impressive race car driver founder (Bruce McLaren, RIP) was super cool. I'm an even a bigger fan now! So sad he passed at 32 (so young).
The presence it has from the rear is unbelievable 👌 👏

Wow. That 720S Spider McLaren is absolutely awesome. I like the interior's simplicity including the steering wheel but most of all the driving experience like no other. If I had a choice to buy the 720s or its competition, hand down it's the Porsche 911 Turbo S for me. Yes with the 911 Turbo S I will reach final destination by a few seconds but I am willing take that chance. Hey Joe, thanks for your great videos.

Was the headlight design inspired by the Eagle Spacecraft from the series Space 1999? The black and white combo helps complete the effect.
That was a British production, a designer may have been a fan as a young boy.

I first became aware of the McLaren name,pretty much like the rest of the larger world,with the Mercedes-Benz/McLaren SLR. It was the closest to a real-life Batmobile that existed outside the movies. Actually,I tell a bit of a lie. Nightwing(formerly known as the first Robin)had his own Batmobile-like car,the Nightbird,with "a 3.7 litre McLaren racing engine,automatic transmission and all-wheel drive."
These are the reviews I really enjoy when Joe says "ON THROTTLE" and has the maniacal laugh.

As incredible and eye popping as this is I'd have to go with the Porsche 911 TurboS because of the deep pedigree, fit and finish, and similar performance in a car you really can drive every day with good gas mileage.
And….. rhe reliability factor. I couldn’t agree more. This looks cool, but too many strikes against Mclaren when soending ludicrous money. To each his own and I too, am a hard pass…
