Of course that would take a little bit of coercion from the old Looney tunes crew right because they're the ones that went on to make that kind of series. Wb isn't Disney just Discovery

@@sky0kast0 The Jetsons was produced by Hanna -Barbera, not Warner and are not part of the Looney Toons universe/family. And Disney wouldn't need to work HB or whoever owns the rights today to make the Autopia cars sound like the Jetsons' cars. They could get away with coming up with a sound that're reminiscent of what we heard on the Jetsons even if it's not exactly the same. Who knows, that particular sound effect might even be in public domain right now with no one owning the rights to it.

I too also thought of a Jetson’s like sound coming from the electric cars. Newer electric cars (in the USA) are already required to have an artificial sound coming from them so pedestrians can tell they’re nearby. It’s not very loud, but it’s there. I believe Ford offers to add an V8 engine noise for their F150 Lightening trucks.

@@Gigaamped This is why it's important to electrify Autopia. Kids get their first opportunity to drive a car there, so make it electric and they will be more likely to buy electric when they are old enough to drive a real car. We are only about 12 years from the end of all internal combustion manufacturing. After 2035, no new gas engines will be made anywhere in the world.

There is no reason why making electric cars wouldn't have sound. All electric vehicles I see have sound added for safety- they could easily replicate the sounds of the old gasoline engines without the fumes!

    • @George_vv
      @George_vv 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

The problems with electrifying the rail (other than most of it being concrete) is the unreliable contacts and the constant wear from steering. It is possible they could do it just for the station and on the top of the rail with some form of smart contact point though. They would probably still have to stop operation on one or multiple tracks at a time to allow for proper charging though.

Thunder Alley at Six Flags Great Escape was converted to electric, using the center guiderail as the source of power for the cars. They have working radios that play classic 50's songs. Disney could play classic Disney songs if they wanted. Why would you want to pipe in sounds of gas powered cars when that's the past, not the future of transportation? Those gas powered cars are so loud and smelly. This needs to happen.

Yeah, taking away that rattling, squealing, headache-inducing pit of noise and gas fumes would render the attraction completely non-immersive, at least with how the track is today and has been for the past 68 years. Their idea for an "electric" change reminds me more of them trying to do a 'TRON Superspeed Tunnel' type of overlay on the PeopleMover back in the day. They would have to enclose the Autopia track space to help the guest envision they are having more fun than they actually are.

My guess for a possible solution is a removable battery system quite like the drone planes from the company Zipline. Since it's for pretty much an electric go kart the batteries might be too heavy though.
Charging plates with contacts on top of the guide rails through the parts where you can't steer might be enough to keep them alive for the day. (They can't just electrify the whole guide rail because that's both hazardous for the amount of vehicles and they would just be creating an entirely new and worse ride because you wouldn't be able to steer at all.)

I feel like the issue holding up many potential changes in Tomorrowland is that they'd have to actually knock down buildings first - and that's something they're either not ready, or not able, to do. However, that shouldn't be an issue with Autopia - as long as they've decided how to do it (and others have posted good ideas below), upgrading the vehicles to electric seems like a doable thing. However, I agree that the engine noise is an essential part of the ambience - maybe stick baseball cards in the spokes?

I know that a lot of people seem to think that Autopia is a waste of space, but I agree with David that Autopia at Disneyland is a great attraction--if only it wasn't so loud and stinky! 😢 I used to work as a Disneyland retail cast member, and I hated working at the Autopia Winner's Circle, because the incessant noise from Autopia was maddening. I don't care how nostalgic the shrieking, grating sound of the gasoline engines may be--it is a serious physical and mental health hazard.
As far as a potential "New Tomorrowland" is concerned, everyone keeps forgetting about Disneyland Forward. There is no conceivable way that Disney would finalize plans--let alone announce them--until the City of Anaheim has acquiesced to Disney's plans for the Eastern Gateway Project. Why would Disney remodel Tomorrowland if they will have to remodel again the southeastern quadrant of Disneyland in a decade?

For Autopia, can they lay inductive chargers on the current track then overlay new pavement over the top of those, raising the level of the track by a foot or 2. They then introduce electric vehicles that can charge continuously wirelessly that would be lighter with a smaller battery pack and no need to park to charge?
Expensive I know but maybe less expensive than dozens of vehicles with large batteries that need to be parked to plug in and charge up.

I hope they can find someway to use induction to power the ride vehicles. Several years ago a freeway in California installed a small test section to use induction to power electric vehicles. I hope that technology has progressed enough to make this happen. Then no need to swap out batteries or charging stations.

Thats a good point about the Autopia noise it does give the ride some sorta life but how about a hover noise kinda like the noise what Tesla’s make? I think that’s kinda a 60s futuristic feel and it won’t make it completely silent. With Tomorrowland as whole why not make it a half update kinda similar to Magic Kingdoms Fantasyland because I think theres some things that should change like i think the Astro orbiter should move because its kinda in the way like why not move it above ground in the same spot or something?

  • @brianstone6463

The problem with making Autopia electric is the always-on aspect of a theme park ride. They can't just park and charge the cars for 20 minutes throughout the day. Ridership would drop and guest experience would drop. Every car needs to be operational all the time, therefore the number of charging stations they install would be the limiting factor in rides-per-hour. So, if they do go full-electric, then they're either going to need a swappable battery system, or they're going to need some sort of wireless charging system in the roadway itself. But, both of those are extremely expensive solutions that require new infrastructure. But, the third option is to convert the existing cars to hybrid-electric, and I think this is the most practical plan. Hybrid golf carts already exist and don't require any extra infrastructure or track modifications. The only modifications needed are to the cars, and the cars can be modified one at a time until they're all done which would have almost no impact to the guest experience. So, in my mind, the hybrid-electric is the most likely plan (if there is any plan at all.)

Not just electric, the cars should also be "self driving" allowing the kids to drive with no guide rails but not allowing them to crash or fail like they did when the attraction opened. I don't think Disney has any large plans for Tomorrowland just yet because Autopia, Finding Nemo and Space Mountain are always busy. If those rides were dying and had few guests in line, then I think they would have an incentive to update the entire land. It makes perfect sense to update Autopia with electric vehicles. Honda would be my first guest since they are the current sponsor of the ride, but I'm sure Toyota would also love to be the sponsor.

I would be all for that. It will be interesting how they accomplish it though.
