      We have a lot in common with the way Jamaicans do things. Most of the foods we commonly eat stem from that side of the world. Also, the love that we have for reggae music, if it's not the strongest, then it is one of the strongest on the continent. Whenever I'm around Jamaica people I automatically reminisce of being around my people.

    He mentioned maroons and Nova Scotia Canada, for those who don’t know Jamaican maroons were sent to Canada, were they lived amongst the blacks who fled from America after the war of independence. The African Americans settled in Canada and are still there till this day. The Jamaican maroons howvever after landing in Canada didn’t like the cold and requested to be sent to somewhere warmer so they were sent to Freetown. This city history is very diverse and interesting. Freed slaves, rescued soon to be slaves, free blacks returning to Africa. The Yoruba If I’m correct landed there in those rescued slave ships. Every illegal slave ship the British would seize would be sent to Freetown, ironically they’d hand the captives to missionaries who’d the freed ppl would have to serve. These Yoruba were most likely from Oyo since the Dahomey were still sending out captives to various Europeans. The Yoruba were also part of returned enslaved from the Americas. Some born in Africa taken to Brazil were able to go back to Africa. We even have some in Ghana called Tabom.

      Asante A, your account is not totally correct. The Jamaican maroons who fought the British in Jamaica and freed many of their slaves, were tricked into signing a peace treaty and made prisoners in Jamaica, then sent to the USA by the British to fight to fight in US revolution war against those fighting in the US for independence from England. Many blacks in the US joined the British forces who promised to abolish slavery if they win. But when the british lost the war with the Jamaicans and blacks from America fighting on their side, they took all the blacks either from Jamaica or from the USA to Canada with them and settled them in Nova Scotia. Then took all of them to England and settled them in London. But majority of them remained jobless and subjected to extreme poverty and ended up sleeping on the streets of London. That is when a plan was made to resettle them to Sierra Leone. They were no distinction made between the blacks of America or of Jamaica. All were sent to London then Freetown later. And captives freed from slaveboats were resettled among the Americos of Liberia and also among the Krio of Sierra Leone. Many resettled in Liberia were freed from ships originating from the Congo area. Reason why the term Congo is used in reference to the Americos of Liberia. In the case of Sierra Leone, seems like many of the ships that were captured had many Yoruba captives on them. Those Yorubas were resettled among the Krios. Also many Kru from Ivory Coast and Liberia were also freed from these ships. You even have a Kru community that settled in Freetown at Krutown Road.

    Sierra Leone - Nigeria connection got to do with the Yoruba people. Yoruba are largely caught up in the trans Atlantic slave trade. The first African archbishop of Anglican Church that translated the Bible into many Africa language in colonial time,Samuel Ajayi Crowther was captured and returned to Sierra Leone by the British after Slavery abolition in the 19th century. Olorunfe is Olorunfemi. A Yoruba name,meaning God loves me.

    • @genuinediasporan
      @genuinediasporan ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jasmine-mj4kf Go back home and check the history of the Krios. Perhaps your definition of Krios is people indigenous to Sierra leone. In that case ,you are right. Yoruba are not indigenous to Sierra leone.

    • @Jasmine-mj4kf

      @@genuinediasporan
      I never said Krios are indigenous to Sierra Leone lololol
      I am Krio I know about my history and language so you can't tell me anything I can tell you plenty.
      The Yoroba have always lived in freetown, we all know the origins of the Yoroba. however people travel and they bring along thier culture and traditions.
      Sierra Leone is made of incredible tolerant people and Yoroba people live in different parts of Freetown.
      Even certain foods.......were brought by the Yoroba.....mio mio we call it oleleh
      Should I go on and elaborate more .
      Don't argue with a Krio woman about her culture.
      I am not saying Yoroba are krios......I am just telling you that different people take different parts of each other cultures.
      We are all one big African family.
      Please no more from you
      The END!

    • @genuinediasporan
      @genuinediasporan ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jasmine-mj4kf Oleleh is another name for Moimoi, and both words are Yoruba. Creole people, who are also referred to as (Krio: Krio people), are the descendants of African-Americans, Jamaican Maroons, and 'Liberated Africans' who settled in Freetown between 1787 and around 1885. The point is Whether you are Yoruba or any liberated Africans,not indigenous to the land in Sierra leone or Diaspora Africans brought to Sierra leone by the British from Novia Scotia or England, are all krios Telling me to stop while you are replying to my 'comment' is kindergarten behaviour. And what makes you think I am not Krio anyway? Knowledge has nothing to do with nationality or place of origin.

    Freetown was created by the British for former Jamaican Maroons and freed slaves in the US who fought on behalf of England in the American independance war. Those blacks from Jamaica and the US were sent to Nova Scotia in Canada when the British lost America. And from Canada, they were relocated to London. But they were having a hard time in London where many ended up living on the streets of London. England decided to send them to Sierra Leone because the British were already based in Sierra Leone during the Transatlantic trade. This is how Freetown came about. Their story is different from the former US black slaves that were sent to Liberia. I will explain the difference when Wode Maya goes to Liberia which is next door to Salone.
