Sorry for disappearing again fellas but this too longer than expected. Hope you all enjoy and let me know what your favorite film ARG/publicity stunt was 👍
I think my favorite “viral marketing” stunt was when for Aqua Teen Hunger Force they put up super sketchy looking Light Bright like devices, yet people in Boston thought they were bombs leading to the whole city getting shut down. Just simple yet funny
The Detective Pikachu fake leak stunt and the Magnolia hotline ad are ingenious, definitely my two favorite examples on the whole iceberg (with an honorable mention to the Psycho campaign, especially for how ahead of its time it was)
I remember when that movie came out I had in my TH-cam recommendations that video of Pikachu dancing set to the beat of Never Going To Give You Up. But just thought it was the whole movie.
Genuinely don't know how I had never heard of the Dark Knight "Why So Serious" campaign until now. So much marketing stuff is wiped away and only left behind through word of mouth and reputation only. Thank you for another excellent video, Zelcher! Also, top-notch music selection for this video as usual.
Viral marketing is always really kinda neat because something about it just feels more passionate and interested in the media they've made. I'm glad so many of these have been able to be archived to some degree.
Yeah I’ve always found these marketing campaigns cool, especially ARGs. I knew of the main ones like Cloverfield and Batman but i was genuinely surprised to learn about the args for Spider-Man and Men in Black. They seem to be forgotten to time now so hopefully this video brings some attention to their existence.
I really wish I got to experience some of those ARG's/marketing stuff for movies in the late 2000's and early 2010's because they looked like they took the dedication to building this second story for the film to 1000%. Especially the Dark Knight and Cloverfield one. With experimental marketing now it's always "here's reference to upcoming movie. Be sure to watch it on this date". But like you said with the Dark Knight, it was a full year on game to uncover secrets and clues for this game to market the film but it seemed much than that and involved so many different websites and actual meet ups at conventions. They just don't make em like they used to.
Blair Witch had a great viral marketing stunt. The movie was initially marketed as a movie called The Woods (I'm pretty sure) with that even being the title in the first trailer and when it was first screened early at comic con it was revealed to be a Blair Witch movie. Even while it was first being shown, outside teh screening room the posters for it were being replaced with posters that had the Blair Witch title. One of the greatest marketing stunts I know of. I hope you talk about it if you do a part two
Oh and The Batman had an ARG too that was pretty similar to The Dark Knight ARG just on a much smaller scale. Alien: Covenant also similar to Prometheus had many short films that gave extra character development and filled in some of the gaps in between the events of Alien: Covenant and Prometheus. There was also a website where you could ask questions and I think there some Blade Runner easter eggs on the site too if I'm remembering correctly
Actual 'Prometheus' fan here, That fictional TED talk by Weyland is quite beloved by people who actually enjoyed the film and soe of those who didn't, it's actually sort of badass (as far as an evil business man can be).
Sometimes a movie's marketing can be even more interesting than the movie itself. Always fascinated by how convoluted these can be. Also, commenting for the algorithm.
Wow, I'll be honest didn't think you'd make one of these again after the last one, didn't really think there was that much to explore, I always liked the intrigue of these videos, theres always an element of unease to them, not something like horror, but somthing among the type of vibe that usual iceberg videos have, but it's aleays a treat to see one of the OG's post somehting like this.
I bet it's starscream because of that post credits scene where he leaves to space which sets up the events of revenge of the fallen (I don't find revenge of the fallen as bad as everyone thought)
@@adventurekitty101for me it's starscream because of the film's post credits scene where he flies off to space which leads to the events of the sequel, revenge of the fallen
@@Mr.Feather130 The scene in question though canonically takes place before even the events of the first film, thus it takes place way too early for Revenge of The Fallen. Unless I am misunderstanding what I'm reading.
there's something very ironic about a marketing ARG disney movie poking at monopolies. edit: Imagine taking the side of Rotten "Gave Cuties A Great Score" Tomatoes.
The MCU has actually had a ton of viral marketing material. I favorite is probably WHiH Newsfront which features in-universe news reports made to tie-in with Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War.
I don't remember much about the Prometheus TED-talk, but I do think watching it definitely made my experience of the film better. And it's a really dumb detailo that I can't reveal without spoiling so..... Weyland shows up in the film, still played by Pearce but under heavy makeup to imply that he is very old and it's....not super convincing, but I guess they wanted him in the movie to maintain a level of continuity and his strange look could be explained by his crazy longevity experiments.
@@ZelcherProductions well be fair, if it was a prequel, why would the grid look super futuristic in legacy and then look like something from the 1980s Tron, 82
23:08 - Yeah, NO CRUD JACKOFF! That much was freaking obvious when you called the film a freaking PREQUEL! DON'T ADD THINGS INTO THE VIDEO IF YOU DON'T DO ENOUGH RESEARCH ON THE FILMS YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!😡

Surprised that wasn't included in the iceberg cause of how infamous it was
I was limiting it to just film for this iceberg.
@@ZelcherProductions it is a film though, released in 2007
Imagine graduating and suddenly you have to sit through a movie ad 💀
My dad actually was super into the Batman ARG. He used to have one of the newspapers but i think it had gotten lost.

Thanks for shouting out my video! Totally unexpected and very kind words :)
It was a great video and the little segment in this iceberg wouldn’t have even been possible without your work. Keep it up man 👍
HONEY, HONEY, HONEY, THE ICEBERG MAN JUST UPLOADED ANOTHER VIDEO!!!!!!
Basically Alan gets a pager from Flynn’s office that ultimately leads Sam to getting sent to the grid

I can’t believe we actually got an iceberg
The ARGonauts podcast is another good place for in-depth looks at a lot of the ARGs mentioned!

That's a Decepticon actually, not Bumblebee. It is either Starscream or Blackout.
I think it was most likely Blackout. That’s my head canon anyways.

WELCOME BACK KING ❤
Did not expect the Coney jumpscare, but I’m all for it
The funniest fact that I have is someone I am related to believed the Lotso ad was real.
The 2000s is definitely the peaked decade for this type of marketing for big event movies
I stumbled across a “Sector 7” baseball cap from my father in law.
Honestly had no idea what it was for.
I'm surprised this doesn't have more views considering how interesting it is!

Forgetting Sara Marshall is a good movie but NOWHERE in the movie does Jason Segel’s character have a blog post about her. This was a cool iceberg!!!
Thanks ❤️
District 9 had real life posters telling people to "report non-humans" and a phone number.
The Simpsons movie turned a 7-11 into a Kwik E MArt
