    this is the pinnacle, hip hop at its absolute best. I used to go to every living legends/def jux show in California. to the point they knew I was coming, I use to give them a lot of free weed. one time I was at the troubadour in los Angeles chillin after the show in the bar with legends and Humpty Hump/shock G. I had just smoked out C-rayz and the jux crew on the bus. 4th pyramid was talking to humpty, and was like, yeah this dude's got shit ask him. so humpty comes up and is like yo, 4th says you been hooking the crew up, I'm like yes sir, he said, you know if I could get an ounce of shrooms to trip with on the way to the next show in San francisco, you can go with us if you want? I said yep yep, but my guy is in Bakersfield Ca. it's gonna take him 2 hours to drive down. anywho I made the call but the crew was leaving to go north within an hour so it didn't happen. I got mad stories with pharrell of neptunes, Dr. dre manager, living legends, def jux and rhymesayers, I even have a dope story of Camu Tao of SA SMASH(R.I.P.) that I'm sure even El-P would love. cheers.

    I didn’t even like hip hop until I listened to The Cold Vein by Cannibal Ox and realized in my youth that there was much more to this style of music than what I was fed through the usual channels of the radio and whatnot. Labels aside, El-P is and Def Jux was a true original.

    To all the people saying, “this that REAL hip hop”
    I gotta ask… why? What makes this music “real hiphop.”

    • @SPELTMUSIC
      @SPELTMUSIC 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      not so much to do with the music itself, sure it has that gritty new york sound but i don’t think that’s the primary reason why def jux resonates with so many hip hop heads, i think it has more to do with the attitude behind the production, performance and entire approach to music making and label management that fully embodies those formative years of hip hop, it’s just everything great and influential about hip hop that came before it cranked up to 11, with a unique 21st century flare, so for people who are really into hip hop it just hits that sweet spot

      I can see how you think that. I remember hearing ish about that's why Def Jux didnt last long. El was too controlling and would sensor dudes rhymes and make them take shit out. he wanted to do all the production have control over the entire album.
