    In this video we're getting you ahead of the game for a big change that's coming to eBay!

    I’m currently housebound so rely on Royal Mail who collect my parcels for free. I can’t be driving around to different couriers. I really hope we can opt out.

    • @Rosiecottoncloud

      I'm the same. Frankly, if we can't use Royal Mail's collect service I'll be looking to see if Ebay are breaking any disability discrimination laws.

    • @sparkles1260
      @sparkles1260 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So sorry to hear you are housebound and although I'm not in a similar position, I do rely on Royal Mail collections as I don't like driving round (wasting petrol) looking to drop off parcels with other courier companies. The items I sell are below £10 so it's really not worth the petrol or the stress.

  • @JennyHall-s1f

    I will definitely opt out if possible as I live a long way from any drop off points other than Royal Mail.

    Good changes. Saves a lot of time. Saves you VAT treshold, as you're not taking money for postage. As far, as I understand.
    Question is: will we still pay FVF on postage. I don't think so, but I'm not sure.
    I pack my stuff as I photograph it, so I know right away the weight and dimentions. Store it packed, so it's more safe from a handling damage. When it's sold, I pick by the SKU that is on packaging.
    If you opt in only for RM, then your customer only be able to choose RM. Like on Vinted. They won't be able to choose Yodel, as you won't opt in for it. If ebay doesn't pusnish you now for not offering Yodel, then it shouldn't after the changes. But we'll see.
    For missing parcel, seller is always responsible. I can't see it being different.

    • @kazutik
      @kazutik 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Completely agree, it’s brilliant from VAT point of view and in general less accounting to do as you won’t receive postage money into your account.
      I thought about the exact same thing regarding paying fees on postage. Surely not?? But knowing eBay.. I won’t be surprised…
      As long as eBay lets us choose which providers we want to use then this will be a game changer!

    • @polish_pete_uk
      @polish_pete_uk 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@kazutik surely, it has to let us. I've got the closest yodel drop off like 3 miles from home. I'm not going to drive 6 miles with one parcel.

    • @ashschannel5024
      @ashschannel5024 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree with this, I am very jealous of you pre packing your items, wish I had done that from the off.
      The main issue for me is I ship my items freepost. So will have to review every item and adjust the price to stay competitive. If the buyer is now paying postage at their end.

    • @polish_pete_uk
      @polish_pete_uk 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ashschannel5024 That's true. Maybe, there will be an option where, if you provide free post, then you'll pay for it, without buyer being involved. That would make sense, although ebay actions seldom make sense.
      I wonder what all those sellers with 50k items will do. They'll have to go, assess and update the postage on all of them.

    • @kazutik
      @kazutik 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@polish_pete_uk same thing! I only have Evri and DPD in my tiny village, driving for miles to drop off 1 parcel is going to be impossible! Let’s hope eBay still has some common sense 😆

    I'm so glad I saw your video randomly on here! I've been selling on ebay for just over 7 years but this week I made the decision to jack it in. The selling experience on ebay has changed so much in my time on there and not for the better. There is never any consultation with sellers at all before these ridiculous changes happen. I'm not a business but I do have an above average performance and 100% positive feedback but I'm so far fown the listings now it's pointless. I feel they have moved so far away ftom the platform they once were. It really isn't worth the bother anymore, so I shall be taking whatever is left of my listings to a charity shop.
    Good luck to you going forward. 😊

I think they will have to allow sellers to opt out of certain delivery methods as some just don't have nearby drop off points so it would be difficult to manage. With regards to Evri I do use them for breakables and so far no issues but I do wrap, and double wrap to make sure things survive most things, but that comes onto the point you made that you don't always know the size until you have wrapped it.

    Again Ebay give no consideration whatsoever to the sellers and the practicalities of their 'improvements'. If this becomes mandatory not optional ( which is quite possible with Ebay ) I wonder how many sellers will just throw the towel in. It seems to me that Ebay are completely oblivious to the fact that without sellers....................there is no Ebay!. The fewer sellers there are, the less items are listed, the less choice buyers have, so buyers go elsewhere. Ebay for sure is run by college leavers with no business acumen whatsoever.

    Post Office will not accept parcels that are incorrectly labelled weight or size. Re things not to like..... personally I add signed for service for items over £25 sold price. Obviously this adds cost to delivery. Does that mean buyer can buy items without signed for service because they do not want to pay extra. Further, at the moment I do not worry about what shipping service is shown in the listing, I select best deal (for me) at time of shipping. Now here is another thing like "specifics" that adds significantly to my listing workload / costs. Does anybody at ebay ever understand or even consider how these "feature" changes impact the seller. I think not.

    Thx for the heads up. This sounds like a headache in the making so I would probably opt out if possible. I’ve been selling a few things on Vinted recently as an experiment and must say this aspect of the selling process (ie allowing the customer to choose postage method, then having to go to multiple postage locations) is the most concerning. I had previously decided to stop using Inpost, Evri etc for my eBay sales so to have it forced upon me on Vinted isn’t ideal, but I’ve only sold a few things so far (clothing and shoes - definitely no breakables or vintage items) so not a problem yet. Just waiting for the first time an item goes missing or seriously delayed - what happens then? My experience of Packlink or other courier customer service was appalling on problems when selling on eBay, hence the reason to stop using them. To have this same issue for all my eBay sales too would be a real pain.

I think eBay are partly doing this because there are too many sellers that over charge, simply because they can’t be bothered to find out how much it weighs and how much the item is gonna cost to send. I only use Royal mail now I have an account with them, I book the parcels in myself and then they collect the next day I have not had any issues since using them. 😊

    My question is with certain items such as glass, battery operated, liquid, Evri its prohibited. So who is responsible for that if someone chooses evri for such items. You can't get a refund for it if broken, leaked. Sound like a headache to me.

    Paused video to write this so you may talk about it later but what about selling fees? At the moment they charge us selling fees on the item plus the postage. If it is more similar to Vinted where the buyer doesn’t even see the postage money, surely we can’t pay fees based on the postage charge as well?

    I already offer free postage on all of my listings, so presumably this new change means the buyer will pay postage on top of the list price? And this will be clear at the point of listing so that I can price accordingly? Obviously the customer shouldn't be able to select more expensive options at our expense that would be silly. Vinted get away with this because sellers can force their buyers to pay return postage fees...even when they lied about condition! (but that's a seperate issue)

    I use Royal Mail because they have the best compensation fee up to £150 so if I sell an item for over £20 I definitely don't want someone going cheap delivery and me being screwed if it goes missing or ends up damaged! Sounds like a bad idea! I recently sent an item to the States and although ebay handles global shipping they still charged me 20% of the buyers import fee, that's nothing to do with me I didn't even see it as the fee went straight to ebay, go figure!

    Sounds like it would be a nightmare for volume sellers with courier accounts .Can't see World of books messing about with multiple couriers The increased cost in man hours alone plus the discount they've negotiated with their courier contract . I should think this is aimed more at the casual seller who sells a few items a month . other sellers me included who have a royal mail account will surely be able to opt out . Ebay labels may disappear though and this may replace it .

    This is how I do it charge 5.10p for second class recorded wrap the item up when it sells , take it to the post office, they weigh it and tell me it's 5.10 for second class recorded and away it goes , reciept in had for the recorded delivery away I go. If I think the item it heavier I charge on the listing 9.97 if it is less than this at the post office I refund the difference to the buyer as a partial refund. For postage 😊 thats it basically except for games and dvds they are 3.50 because ebay wont let you cuarge more than this on listing so I cover the extra . So tend to send them out in lots opposed to single games so as to cover it better. I only use Rolay mail and I only send second class recorded or if very expensive I do next day special delivery, it takes away any stress when posting and you know most of your items costs. 😊 Royal mail cover you on second class recorded and so do ebay when you upload the tracking number 😊

      @Married2Reselling  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We do that already in most instances. It’s not an issue for us. But the issue with the new ‘simple’ postage isn’t the cost implication, it’s whether eBay can produce the right label for the size of the parcel.

    Pro - could help a lot of people circa VAT threshold. Con - potentially sellers wont have the wiggle room to incorporate postage insurance into the listing postage policy. Especially bad for sellers that sell a smaller / lighter item that has a high price. Lots of cons a couple of pros... Eitherway I'll be opting out ASAP. Great vid folks 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    selling something for £4+post ... considering the Ebay fees, pkging materials, time spent photo-ing & listing, also label-printing/packing/handling time etc ... couldn't justify it for a one-off item. Only multiple identicals work really for such low profit levels *for me*. Otherwise it's just a "labour of love" & into the realms of the "hobby seller" to my mind. Maybe you can streamline the listing/packing time ? Also with one-off items, can be difficult with medium-t large items to source cheap & secure packaging material And you have a proportion of Ebayers making stupid enquiries/offers etc to eat in to your time. And the returns, scammers to factor in. I even bought a load of identical new items for £2 each, & even when selling for £10 delivered through Ebay, I ended up losing out due to fees, P&P, returns, & the time taken to photo, list, pack, despatch, deal with enquiries.
