What a great concert. One has to consider that Reicha could hardly fall back on such role models. What musical ingenuity. I've known this concert for a long time and I've always enjoyed hearing it. THANK YOU for uploading it here on TH-cam. Milos Sadlo is also a notable cellist. We have him to thank for the first recording of Hayden's C major concerto!
Thank you very much for this comment and for appreciating the music of this lesser-known composer, whose name is today overshadowed by his nephew Anton Reicha (unfairly, in my opinion, because two musicians so different cannot be compared) .
You are welcome. I enjoy listening to your posts of great music I am not at all familiar with. It is a very welcome change from the hundreds of pieces I have heard (and played) so many hundreds of times - Vivaldi, Corelli, Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Tartini, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, Schumann, Brahms, Smetana, Tchaikovsky, Strauss, Elgar, Sarasate, Wieniawski, Korsakov, Wagner, Prokofiev, Stravinsky, Shostakovich, Sibelius, etc..... This is refreshing. :-)
"... from of hundreds of pieces I have heard (and played)...” - Oh, are you musician? I'm glad for this, and I'm even more proud of you listening to "my” music! At some point in my life, I'm tired too of the music of "the big ones" (but I still enjoy some of Beethoven's music and all the music of Paganini). About four to five years ago I found on the net a list of all the composers and I started looking for the music of those who were unknown or little known to me. I enjoy the music I "discovered" :)
I would dearly love to hear a symphony by Josef Rejcha some day. Does anyone know if there are plans to record more of this composer's music? By the way, if you like the music of unjustly neglected composers of this time period, you would surely enjoy the music of Johann Sterkel. He is another composer who influenced Beethoven and was in my opinion a very good composer.
I do not know anything about J. Rejcha's symphonies, but I will look for. Thanks for the idea. As for Sterkel, I have listened to some of his music and I liked it a lot. I have also uploaded two of his works: Symphony no.2 and Piano Concerto no.2.
Thanks! Lately I have been listening to composers who influenced Beethoven. Of course, he was influenced by F J Haydn, most of all in his 8th symphony. Some of his piano sonatas were influenced by J L Dussek. I know that Beethoven admired Muzio Clementi's music, but I can't recall any similarities between the two composers' music. It would interesting to know what other composers influenced Beethoven.
Thanks for the info! Personally, I do not think Beethoven was influenced by another composers, but I think that Beethoven as all other composers have been influenced by the musical spirit of the epoch that each of them has lived. And yes, Haydn appreciated the works of Beethoven from the "Bonn period." I read that it was Haydn who insisted that the young composer go to Vienna to study music. And there, in Vienna, were Clementi, Cramer, Hummel ... all at the height of glory. Listening to their music, Beethoven may have been influenced, why not? But all Beethoven's music shows what independent artistic nature he had. Thanks again and sorry for my mistakes, I do not know English well.
Sibarit101, I can't help commenting that your English is absolutely perfect! (Need I say, far better than most native speakers'.) I only wish I could write as well in my own third language, French.
You contradict yourself. In the information about this video, you said, "Music scholar Ludwig Schiedermair in 'Der junge Beethoven' (Leipzig, 1925) gave specific examples taken from Reicha's partitas and symphonies and has proven that these works influenced Beethoven." Beethoven was influenced by other composers. If you listen to Sterkel's symphonies 1 and 2, you will hear parts that are very similar to phrases in Beethoven's symphonic music. Beethoven's 8th symphony has many similarities in style to Haydn's symphonies. Beethoven was not a god who created something from nothing. He was a human composer who used a mix of his and other composer's ideas to make some of the greatest music ever created. Many of the composers who Beethoven took ideas from are obscure and people do not realize where he got the ideas.

What a spectacular piece of music. Thank you for sharing it. Another hidden gem, this deserves to be played more often.
I agree, thank you!
Very delightful. Have never heard of J.Rejcha before. Thank you for sharing this!
Thank you, I'm glad you listened to his music, in my opinion he was very talented.
Beautifull consert, thanks.
Beautiful cello ...
A lovely piece wonderfully performed. Thank you 101.
Thank you very much for your kindness and your comments.

З днем народження, маестро!
So virtuous and yet so neglected ... Must play! 😁
