      @@ACSReactions : That depends upon one factor-- do 1990s hairstyles warrant its own video about chemistry?

    I am kinda.... dissappointed. They started out by noting all of the different hair types but only explained straight haired people. People with curls have a much more interesting chemistry behind changing the texture of their hair. Its sad to see curly and afro-textured hair to get another dig, by calling our hair "Bad" when that's naturally how it grows out of our hair.

    • @izaiahthomas1939

      @Electric Sheep Not true. The topic of the video is 80's hair. Everyone in the 80's partook in "big hair" successfully regardless of their hair typing. At no point was it ever specified that she would only be addressing perming of "straight hair". I and many other people with curly hair textures sat through the video hoping to learn more about how these products affected our hair as well and because we were omitted from This specific hair styling technique (yes it is the same) I have the right to comment how disappointed I was at being omitted from a video I was genuinely interested in watching till the end.
      Telling me to make my own video is a mute point because that's not how good education should work, that's not how history happened, and that's not how good science is conducted. Research is only as substantive as the amount of detail you put into making it applicable in many situations not a eurocentric vacuum. All of her videos, produced from the American Chemical society at least should attempt to be representative of the American population unless otherwise noted (aka her video on redheads). All I'm asking is that I am not teased with unclear information in my pursuit of knowledge, if she had just said how people with straight hair got curls I wouldn't be disappointed.
      p.s- There are many methods of hair straightening and perming IS one of them. You would know that if she took 15 seconds to note the exact same chemicals do the opposite to already curly hair (my reason for calling out her lack of mention that it doesn't only curl). Hair straightening has been around over a century and is central to why African Americans in the past half of the century began the journey of reclaiming their hair making the 90's less than spectacular in the history of hair straightening. But thank you for your disrespectful and inaccurate feedback.

    Man, I'm so glad the era of the perm is mostly over. I grew up in the 80's, and the smell of perm chems was unavoidable. It was also one of the most nauseating things I ever experienced. Thanks for explaining what it actually was I was smelling.

      I quite like the look of manbuns on some guys. I think it´s adorable when little kids wear colorful socks in their sandals. I even think people wearing grey woolen socks in Birkenstocks are kind of A Look, which may not be pretty but not everything has to be and wool has practical qualities even in summer. My understanding stops with pulled-up white sports´ socks in sandals on adults though.

    the bond vs not bond distinction seems arbitrary

    • @stini334
      @stini334 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bonds have something to do with electrons being shared or swapped (depending on the type of bond) while hydrogen bonds only are a result of the dipolar charge of water. This attraction due to electrical charge is also significantly weaker than the strength of a bond. So there is a huge difference in it. Just the name bond in hydrogen bond is misleading.

    • @MegaChecker95
      @MegaChecker95 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stini334 Are Sodium and Chlorine in a bond by ionic bond? Yes, they are and that also relies purely on eletrostatic and no orbital interaction. I'd agree that not calling an hydrogen a bond seems arbitrary. But that's the chemist's way, everything is a bit arbitrary. AFAIK there's no formal definiton of the word "bond" and if so, chemists don't really care.

    Three thumbs down for three laugh track clips that were completely unnecessary. Love the writing/dialogue and look of this 80’s genre but please slap your sound engineer for using a laugh track even if it falls ‘in period’ with the content.
