Man, you saved our bacon! Neighbor called after 9pm to tell us our brake lights were on. My husband was asleep and had to be at work at 4am. I found something in our junk drawer and crammed it in there! I left sleeping beauty a detailed text for the morning.
Thank you! I thought I was going to lose my mind. You led me to the solution. This bushing caused me a dead battery. I’m hoping it survived. For a temporary (non-drivable) solution to getting the lights off, 4 quarters fit perfectly. Finally a use for change.
Thank you so much for this video. I took the car to a mechanic and they told me $110 for the repair. The part cost less than $10 at advanced auto parts and I just pushed back the brake pedal and popped it in myself right in the parking lot. Took less than two minutes...the hardest part was positioning myself.
I had already paid the dealership a $275 "diagnostic fee" & had specifically NOT SAID ANYTHING about needing a new starter. Guy wrote on the paperwork "she thinks it's the starter", charged me for & installed a new starter on top of that... 2 batteries dead in 4 years? I told them something was PULLING on my BATTERY, zero mention of the word starter... oh look, here's the ACTUAL problem solved for under $20... 😡😑☠
Thank you so much.... I have the same problem, saw your video, went to my car and sure enough found the debris of the old bushing on the floor... Heading straight to a parts dealer now.... :-)
Thank you for taking the time to share your research and replacement process! We just had this happen in our 2004 Honda Element, and we undid the battery (since we noticed this at night when we got home), and the next day, we saw your video on TH-cam. We went out, reconnected the battery, went to Auto Zone, got the part for under $8, and then put it in ourselves in less than 5 minutes! Woo-hoo! Thank you for the advice! We now have properly working brake lights. Thank you so much, again.
Dude! You saved me! Thank you very much for posting this. Advanced auto parts had the very same package. Thank you again. Have a blessed day. BTW, I installed the black bushing/stopper, the black one worked just fine.
This is awesome I believe this happened to my 2006 I'm currently charging the battery but before the jump died I saw my back lights on so this might be my fix.
Thanks a ton 😁. Worked like a charm. Called a few places and found it at O'REILLY's also IT'S DISCRIBED AS “PEDAL STOP ASSORTMENT". Score one for DYI...YES.
Today the same problem occurred in my wife's 2003 Element. Thank you so much for providing this easy fix.

Excellent video and Thanks! This solved my brake light issue on my 2007 Honda Element. I bet this repair would have been $200-$300 at shop.
I paid $8.00 with tax included a Advance Auto Part.
The Name of Part: Pedal Bushing & Pedal Stop Assortment for Honda. Item# 74015 Advance Auto Parts

This just happened on my 2006 element but mines a company vehicle is it fine to drive with the light on?
Thanks for the info
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Can there be a water/rain leak on carpet after fixing this brake part? Did the mechanic mess up?
If you have any kind of leak it wouldn't have anything to do with this fix
Thank you for sharing
Nice
You can use a floor mat plug in a pinch thin sliver of duct tape to hold it from slipping out …. In this economy of scarcity
