one of the best tricks for making phonk : put an eq that cuts out the highs and a tape emulation or something like supervhs on the master before making the beat. it helps a lot with soundselection
Starting out in a whole new medium with it on the master. Nice.
I like that approach
no it doesnt LMAO

I feel like you're really hitting your stride on making these videos Navie. I was watching an older video a couple days ago to reference something, and you've come along with your video quality, your comfort in front of a camera, expressing your personality and just overall vibe. Great job dude!
Thank you man! I feel the same way. I feel a lot more comfortable including all of my stupid ideas in my videos

Great tutorial, it would be really cool to see you also cover the less popular genres of Phonk. 99% of tutorials I’ve seen have been drift phonk, but I recommend taking a listen to artists like SOUDIERE, Roland Jones, Berrymane, 1ONY, etc.
These artists are what made me start making beats, and phonk definitely deserves some recognition beyond what is blowing up right now.
WHO?
He said in another comment hes thinking of doing one for more traditional jazz sample phonk
@@xanmancan Those artists and DJ Smokey are pioneers of the Phonk genre and they make Phonk in the best way that is more true to its origin of Memphis Rap. They don’t rely on only the cowbells so they can make a wider selection sounds as long as it has a vocal sample. Drift Phonk isn’t as good and is repetitive as that style of Phonk is what made it go viral/mainstream on TikTok etc. So now everyone is making Drift Phonk.
@@gargantuanblunt spaceghostpurpp/ #raiderklan are the contemporary pioneers before those SoundCloud producers for sure

Great Tutorial like always!
Just now got a chance to watch this and what a banger video my friend! Never would have thought that when I've used cowbells, my piano roll actually isn't playing the correct note . Lol. Just that alone is an incredibly helpful tip. I know you've gone over it before but have always seemed to forget it. This one will stick this time around. Will be using that for a ton of sounds now.
Awesome tutorial! 🔥🔥🔥

Hey that was a Gem when you used the FL eq to find the key of the cowbell. Thanks for this video. this is a deep dive into PHONK. Really appreciate this one. Thanks again

Navie ...dude this trap phonk rocks 🤟🏿💪🏿🔥🔥🔥🔥 thank you for this I will apply these tips!
Thank you so much. I have been struggling to figure out how phonk works and u really helped me so much
nah lol WHO?!!
This isn't a good representation of phonk I recommend watching "why phonk isn't really phonk" by pooty to help you figure out what phonk is
to find the pitch in something you can also go into edison and open the sound there. Then open the region settings and down there is a setting that says detect pitch regions. I use this for 808s and other sounds to find the key
WHO?
thats so many steps i just sing the note and find it in any serum piano roll lol
@@davidsilvestre5222all u do is right click the 808, “open in audio editor”, right click again once its open, click “pitch regions”, “detect pitch regions”, then boom it shows u. just a lil muscle memory is all it takes
@@demianiv6407 i know i used to do it that way. it just saves time imo to do it the other way. usually the first note is the key to the song anyway so alot of times ill sing the first note into my microphone and see what the autotune tells me it is lol
Fam this is a different level of genius type activity 🥵

ur like my favorite new youtuber, it’s u and kyle beats
Oh man I love your humor. Those facts are blowing me away xD
This was another great tutorial. I’m really liking these longer videos where you go into detail on the entire process. By chance could you make a video on your mixing techniques for 808s. Your 808’s are always hitting really nice. Thank you for these kinds of vids I really appreciate them👍💯
Honestly, slapping Decapitator onto my 808s does like 80% of the work.
@@NavieD I guess I’m in luck I bought the effect rack from soundtoys discounted last year so that comes with decapitator

You thank you for the tutorial, I’ll probably use it if I ever start my Phonk music career
a quick way to find the note of any sound is right click the sample in the channel rack (the soundwave itself), click open pitch editor and it gives you the note in a piano roll. Works well for tuning 808s
Very good tutorial for begginers!
Ayye, the new hot genre finally covered! Ty for this vid buddy!
💯
I know the channel is legit when I want the final beat to be released, cheers!
bro it sound. good
tbh im a noob to this producing chit but navie d really put me on to phonk much appreciation
To find the pitch in FL Studio, you can open it in Edison and click "pitch regions" and it will sometimes nail it. Newtone gets it every time though. Keyfinder too
nah lol WHO?!!
Thank you sir. Where would i be without your help🙏🙏
You probably would be stuck in a ditch somewhere
It was good to learn key facts about the history of Phonk while watching this video, all of which seemed plausible
this track is actually fire.
Lets goooo 🔥 more phonk pls

I’m going to learn how to make beats eventually

I'm sorry y'all. I had to look these so called facts up.. smh.
They're all true, I checked Naviepedia!
All verified facts, no need to double check
Lol....the Navi pedia....the pun machine is working well, may the PHONK be with you...
Great tips and thanks a lottt Navie, you're just a GOAT! Love to see this kind of informational content combined with the humour. Boy I laughed way too much about Phonkistan 😂
But how do you made it, the midi you play woth your keyboard sticks to the grid of the piano roll? I tried the buttons above right to the bpm (the chain symbol, etc. I forgot the names), but it didn't really work. If someone else knows, you're welcome to tell, I struggle with this setting a long time 🤲🏻🤝🏻
Damn I thought phonk came from Memphis, thanks for the education I can’t wait to tell all my friends this surely they won’t laugh at me
ollolo you're welcome. Your friends are gonna think you're a genius now

phonk is so fun to make. it's like lofi, but hard
That's a good way of putting it
nah lol WHO?!!
I've been making music for years and I was shocked at how hard of a time I am having making a decent phonk track. It's very frustrating.
you can use slicex to detect pitch regions rather than use eq. alot easier to me
U Bro🙌🏽🔥
Ayeeeeee
nice content
I've visited Phonklanta. Some people called me crazy for speaking about electronic music. Otherwise their drifting cars were pretty cool! 10/10
Ah yes, Phonkestan occupying Algeria CIRCA 2022 colored.
It's in the history books
sir t9wed
finally someone who actually understands this genre 🙏
Absolutely not, this guy thinks phonk consist of cowbells and heavy beats, worst representation ever.
IF this played during i learned to drive a car, i won't fail.
GOTTA NEED THIS ON SPOTIFY
I wanna see someone do a series similar to this but they take two genres and meld them, going over the specifics of each genre they use! That would be super sick and creative
WHO?
So like what Bishu does but serious?
Damn, ur biceps is bigger than last time. Gainz brooo
u should do a tutorial for the other side of phonk, like smokey and soudiere type beats
Yeah I want to do a jazzier, sampled phonk for sure
@@NavieD plzzzz
4:28 love how u made the country map a random one from north africa...
Really loving the series brother, I was always interested in this genre but never knew the proper approach, def inspired me when i needed it (was in major burnout from trap.) I was wondering, what is a good range of BPM for this type of genre?
phonk can be pretty diverse, but usually 140-180bpm
Phonk house stuff is 105-138 (usually in the 120-something range)
Regular drift is 145-180. Varies greatly depending on your approach
