This is my review of this product on Amazon, which is where it was bought. Title of review: "Follow the instructions at your peril …" Nice looking hood. Good value for money - half the price of the one it replaced. Powerful and quiet. Nice bright lights. 2 year warranty. If I hadn’t decided to put it up myself, I’d have given it five stars. Things to know if you are replacing an existing hood. Vent pipe is 150mm diameter; some hoods use 120mm pipe. Reducers are available (eg Screwfix), but with loss of some suction. Chimney width is 27 cm, which may be smaller than your existing hood. Check ceiling height to see if telescopic chimney is tall enough. It’s easy enough to put this extractor up PROVIDED you DON’T follow the instruction booklet step-by-step. This says attach both ends of the vent pipe prior to marking out and installing the telescopic chimney. If you do this, you’ll hit a stupid and incomprehensible chimney design flaw (maybe a change in design? The picture in the instructions is different). The problem is that, in order to attach the midway wall bracket that supports the lower length of the chimney, you have to install the screws from the back - ie with the heads screwed in from the wall side going outward. So ignore the instructions and sort out the vent pipe after you’ve put up the chimney brackets. The foil extraction pipe has a flange on one end. Do not attach the extractor unit to this, it won’t tighten up - use the other end (the instructions don’t tell you this). The instructions tell you to remove the plastic protective film from the chimney last, having completed the rest of the installation. This is impossible to do. The film creates so much friction that you can’t extend the inner part of the telescopic chimney upwards. So take most of the film off the inner chimney first, leaving 10cm at the top to stop the inner part dropping back down inside the outer chimney. With the glass attached, the unit is quite heavy - it’s easier to undo the four screws and take the glass off and then put the glass back on later. There is also a U-Tube video on installation. This is somewhat better than the instruction booklet, but is also quite misleading and you’ll never get the telescopic chimney installed if you follow it. Real houses have a ceiling and this prevents the upper section of the chimney being dropped into the lower half in the manner shown in the video. The video also tells you to screw the extractor to the wall and not rely just on the hooks of the hanging bracket - a step that is entirely omitted from the instruction booklet. The unit has a two year warranty, but the instructions contain no address or other information about how to claim. The only information on the Ciarra website is an email address All and all - a very nice product at an attractive price, marred by appalling instructions and misleading U-Tube installation video.

I cannot agree more, the manual has been done by people who only try it in fake condition in their labs, no ceiling, and no vent connection. The manual explain (step 12) to put the bracket on the lower chimney AFTER making the vent connection. Then you have to dismount one or this other. Best of all, at the step 16 they ask you to put the upper chimney IN the lower chimney. Guy, I have a ceiling !!! And the lower chimney is now fixed on the wall !! I dare you to make it in real world condition. Bad bad manual instruction.
This is same as Candy extractor hood. Good video btw. Just make sure upper chimney is inside lower chimney first before screwing on. However, it is easier to mark brackets on the wall with chimneys separated.
It is impossible to install this extractor like shown in this video. How do I know? A: I've just put one up. The upper chimney has to be placed in the lower chimney before the lower chimney is installed. Unlike the video, most (all) houses have a feature called a cieling which prevents the chimney being just dropped into the lower chimney in the manner shown here. Also make sure that the flexible pipe is the right way round. Do not use the end with the flange to connect to the extractor. Beyond that, this video's is significantly better than the woeful instructions supplied with this unit. So good luck with your installation. This is a nice product, but not easy to install.
Thank you for purchasing and appreciating our products. We are sorry to bring you a bad installation experience. We will try our best to improve this situation based on your valuable comments.
