  • HOW TO relocate your gauge!
    ________
    Parts used:
    Auto Meter 3209 Tachometer w/ Shock Mounting Adapter
    ► amzn.to/2muqjC9
    Joker Machine Handlebar Clamp (w/ spot for lights)
    ►amzn.to/2lzX5xt
    EZ Fuse Silicone Tape:
    ► amzn.to/2muuQVm
    ________
    In this vid, I walk through a Gauge Relocation install, as well as changing out the handlebar top clamp and integrating the indicator lights into it.
    Tried out a new format this time around, as in some of the past vids, the vocal audio was a little low. After having tried it this way, I can confidently say that I won't be doing it this way again if I can help it! It throws off the natural pace of the videos. Also, recording the vocal audio separately later is more time consuming, and in all honesty, it causes me to procrastinate on actually making the vid, haha.
    As always, use caution when doing mods to your bike! If you're not comfortable doing a mod, get some help from a friend who is, or see a mechanic. And if you have any questions, please post up and I'll answer when I'm able to the best of my knowledge.
    Thanks for watching, and I hope it helps some of you out there that are possibly considering relocating your gauge / speedo!
    Ride safe out there!

    You are really good at customizing the bike. I really like how you are not afraid to tear it down to make it the way you want it. I on the other hand feel like I am not good enough to do all of these mods. Very nice and the bike looks like one of a kind. Ride Safe

      +HarleyDayRider Thanks! Yeah I was nervous at first too when I started working on cars, but the more you do it, you build your confidence. Gotta start somewhere! And a bike is way easier than a car 👍🏼

      Also Blockhead was not born with the knowlege doing this stuff. It's just practice. Just do it! If it takes you longer, this doesn't matter. But with every little thing you do on your bike (or car, or anything else), you will get to know it better and better.

    Heads up to anyone doing this modification... if you have a 883 from 2015+ the harness wires will not be long enough to split.. you will have to do extra steps.

    like the video, you got a good thing with the how to videos keeping it pretty simple. wrenching your own bike is scary for a lot of people.

    • @BlockheadMoto
      @BlockheadMoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yeah simple is best I think, don't want to overwhelm. People looking up "How To" videos are usually already confident enough and want to confirm how something is done, or have no idea how to do it, haha. So I figure this style of walkthrough can help whichever of those type of people. I used to be scared of messing up something while working on my car (what I originally started wrenching on,) but you gradually get used to it, and that fear for messing something up goes away :)

    I have just relocated my speedo, and installed the headlight grill on my 2014 iron 883. Had some trouble with the wiring on this model, since the two connectors for headlight and gauge are connected to each other with little slack... But, it all worked out in the end... Thank you so much for your videos, couldn't have done it without you! Cheers from Oslo!

    Good video. My Joker bracket turned purple with the sun pretty quick so I had to paint it black. Based on the lift I did on my tank I had to install it to the fork. That was a pain because I had to extend all the cables. Looks better then stock for sure.

    • @BlockheadMoto
      @BlockheadMoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Burt! Next up on the mods list is changing out the external breather bolts on the air cleaner to a hose / filter system, as I'm getting blowby on the side of the bike time to time. Kind of annoying, but this should fix it. After that, possibly drag bars? Probably drag bars and some new grips from Arlen Ness. Then Daymaker headlight, LED front signals w/ smoked lenses, possibly front turn signal relocation. I think after that, that'll complete the front of the bike. Then I can focus on the back, considering a rear fender chop / bobber style, probably a new seat, LED rear signals... the list goes on and on and on, haha

    I feel like I missed something right before you put the gauge into the clamp... Did you just screw the rubber back piece back on and tape around the white part, or was there a sleeve or something that it went into? Other than that, the video was helpful and pretty easy to follow. Thank you!

  • @exexpat11

    Had nightmares of doing something like this to my Yamaha Warrior. Changed my bars also and had to remove the headlight, remove, detach wires inside the headlight, saw off some cable and wire retaining hardware, fight everything back together, test, redo, test, redo, test redo, and reassemble everything with the new speedo location and handlebars. This is easier but... it still gives me nightmares of the 6 hour mod on the Yamaha.

    Thanks for all these videos Blockhead. I have a 2016 and I got lucky to stumble upon your page. I did the tank lift and wire tuck but I'm having a problem relocating the speedo. The wires connecting the LEDs to the speedo are simply not long enough. Do you have any suggestions? Also, did you have to relocate your coils in order for the bolt to be long enough that holds the tank and speedo bracket in place?

    • @BlockheadMoto
      @BlockheadMoto  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you see the part where I cut the black plastic that was pairing the LED and speedo wires? If you don't cut that off, you have very little room. The part at 3:39 is what I'm talking about.
      As for length of bolt that holds tank and speedo bracket, that doesn't really have anything to do w/ coils at all, would have had clearance either way. I did get a longer bolt whenever I did a tank lift, so that might help out a bit, but I think even w/ the stock bolt, you'll have enough room to mount the speedo bracket (takes up very little room on the bolt.)

    • @BmxxRider
      @BmxxRider 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      BLOCKHEAD I cut that black plastic but it didn't really make a difference. It barely reached and the speedo would have had to be upside down for it to work. I might just try to put it on the right side of the bike instead. The wiring might be different this year.
      I honestly didn't even check to see if the aftermarket bolt that came with the lift kit was longer than the stock one. I got a different one than you did.
      Either way, thanks for the reply. I'll see what I can do

      Yo! Just did my relocation tonight (still have to get a wiring extension, 2022 problems) and mine barely touches the Speedo when turning all the way left. I ended up having to use the top hole on the new clamp. It will sit lower and be a little more out of view but I didn't see a huge issue with it. It'll still be visible when riding, you just have to peep your head over to see it a little bit more. I hope this helps!

    • @stevenwagner8436
      @stevenwagner8436 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ok boys here's the deal. BLOCK has a 2013 Sportster. Harley Davidson made a wiring change in the assembly starting in 2014. (you'll notice a factory splice on the red wire from the LED) I have a 2015 Sportster 883N and 2013 wiring will NOT FIT. I suggest if you have a 2014 or newer model, purchase another assembly (approx. $50) and then splice/solder the wires from the old assembly into the new one so you get around 16" between the LED and the plug in for the speedo. That will solve the problem!!! Of course some of you will have better splicing skills with more cost effective wiring, I just chose to keep the same color scheme and use factory wiring. remember NO FACTORY 2013 wires will fit a 2014 or newer.

    If you have a 2016 don't follow these instructions... And definitely don't purchase the speedometer 3 piece relocator! I tried to follow the instructions from " blockhead" and now I am in the middle of a screwed up mess. Lucky, I can figure this all out ,but have to wait to see if I can extend the wires to move then gauges.(absolutely nothing fits)!

      i am having the same problem on my 16 iron. i think i'm going to cut the 5 wires (or 6) and extend them with some extra wiring by soldering about 8" piece of wire to each one... wires are not long enough as on his 13 iron

      Captain Obvious... soldered 8 inch length wires and it was not enough. Might need like 14" wire additions and it's 10 wires to be extended. My wires were too short. Attached it to the right fork since the harness does not stress that way when you turn the handlebars.. took for a ride. So far so good....

    so just an FYI for anyone reading the comments. This apparently doesn't work as easily on a 2016 iron. I bought all the parts, super pumped. and then BAM. Harley changed the harness slightly. So you cant separate the indicator plug from the instrument plug as far as required. It would require cutting and extending the wires. I was not that committed so i Just gave up.
