He sent me a message, can you believe it? He's humble, down to earth and I consider myself blessed to hear from him. An Early Innovator of Rock with his OWN SOUND. I Love It! Rock On Mr James Burton!
James is one of those guys who is loved by other musicians. No one even talks about him anymore, but the minute he dies, every one will become the biggest lifelong fan of his and swear they loved him since they were a kid. SMH
James Burton is not the greatest guitarist in America. He is the GREATEST guitarist in the history of the world. I still can’t figure out how he did some of the fantastic riffs he does. For example, Ricky Nelson’s “Fools Rush In” James makes the guitar growl then he makes it prance. I don’t know any other way to explain it. Listen to it for yourself.
True .Nobody knew who Cliff Gallup was then when he died a cult hero worship grew up of players who " followed him from BE BOP A LULA onwards. "Jim Burton and Cliff Gallup were just two of a plethora of guitar pickers who played sessions for many vocalists. Many guitarists were terrific like Hank Garland ,Al Hendrikson et al
And what you say makes sense? He was a sideman to Rock superstars of the 50’s like Rick Nelson and Elvis. It’s no coincidence he isn’t a household name?
James is and will always be cool and current whatever new music you make never stop listening to great musicians the good ones all have the same thing even to this day which is a great story , great musical sound or rhythm back by either real emotions that person experienced or a story.🙏😇❤️🇺🇸
Thank you Ed Cowden for showing me this awesome guy... You've passed on something to me that you knew of because James Burton was in your generation, not mine, but I am forever grateful you showed me him, Ed. A fellow guitarist
One talented cool long staying long playing guitarist ever. I hope kids learning today are being shown all these guys from the past, not to confuse them but to educate them on music and the guitars ability and simplicity with one pick and no outside modern overkill technology .
Yeah ken Scotty Moore had to call jerry reed into the studio many times cause Scotty couldn't pull it off.James Burton needed noons to do that. Music isnt a competition but Burton. Way superior toscotty in every way
Scotty was no longer playing with Elvis before anyone knew who Jerry was. Jerry was called in for a studio guitarist. Not Scotty. However, the record labels couldn't get together and Jerry's tracks weren't used.
It's actually from a Guitar Gods type documentary they used to air on VH1. I can't remember the name and have only found it once online many years ago. I've since lost the link. If anyone finds it I'd love a link. Hugely inspired by it as a kid.

They’re all Masters of The Telecasters...Arlen Roth, no slouch himself, wrote a great book about all the great Tele players, with that title, and I think he’s more than qualified to bestow the title!
James Burton will always be the MASTER of the Telecaster...Love his playing
Superior technique and tone.

James Burton is most certainly the master of the Telecaster, and Danny Gatton was the Grand master of the Telecaster.

James Burton: You are number one….
And now I bow....fantastic guitarist

James Burton's playing and Rory Gallagher's sound influenced Brian May.

Albert Collins (1932-1993) ("The Master of the Telecaster")
fuckin' legend

Buddy Ollie -- That's what she said.

"Master of the Telecaster"...what does that mean? he wouldn't be able to play well on say a flying v?
Of course he would but "master" rhymes with "Telecaster" and "v" doesn't rhyme with much of anything!
What ever your style at the moment; it’s all ok with me .
All you young 14 teen year old's siting on your beds trying to play did ya get that.
I was with this till I saw Pete townshend
Steve schneider you are the better of the play guitar, wonderful.
Albert Collins
Waylon jennings
Roy buchanan
James burton
What movie is this from?
a Documentary called "History of Rock n' Roll". a 5 part series I believe - 10 hours from maybe 15 years ago
It's actually from a Guitar Gods type documentary they used to air on VH1. I can't remember the name and have only found it once online many years ago. I've since lost the link. If anyone finds it I'd love a link. Hugely inspired by it as a kid.

+The Garlic Farm I like Albert Collins. He did have a really distinctive tone on his Telecaster. Can't take anything away from James Burton, though.
The undisputed master of the Tele is Danny Gatton. Do your homework.
They’re all Masters of The Telecasters...Arlen Roth, no slouch himself, wrote a great book about all the great Tele players, with that title, and I think he’s more than qualified to bestow the title!
Why do you assume James Burton gives himself this title? More like his fans do it.
I will go up against this super over rated clown any day !
