Just a word of advice, once you go to double wall vent you have to continue double wall until the termination as per code. The reason being is if you go back to single wall it creates a spot where condensation forms inside the pipe and will create corrosion holes which will cause a bad carbon monoxide issue. I would also advise building a chase around the vent pipe, double wall or not, because it will get hot and you don’t want the little one getting burned on the vent.
Was going to say the same thing about protecting the hole. Might be good to make it about 10" from the outside of the pipe to the outside of the cage to give the little one time to learn what hot means before they can reach it. While I'm here I'd like to add: please also carry a weapon on your property but you don't need to tell us what it is or that you do & I think a plexiglass window looking down through the half wall might be fun for dogs and children.

mountain liones have a 50 mile radius once they establish their home territory. They could visit the area weekly. Unless they expand their area looking for food. If they are watching or stalking you, you might not even know. Such beautiful powerful animals.
💕You should put your trail camera on one of the corner post of your decking to see what’s coming close by your workshop/home when you are asleep💕Think you will need to add a gate at the top of the stairs on your decking to keep the dogs & baby safely on your deck💕
Looks great! I hope you guys are enjoying this time with Oliver. We thought about you guys yesterday when we were in Spokane Valley picking up our new to us 1950 O'Keefe and Merritt gas cook stove. We don't make it that far south very often but when we do we think of you. Well you certainly had a lot of foot prints in the snow but without a closeup it's impossible to tell who the original culprit is. But I think you had many opportunists getting a free meal. With dog/coyote/wolf prints you will always see the claw prints. Big cat cougar/Bob cat/lynx you will not see a claw mark with the foot print. We definitely have all of the above listed. I always find it fascinating to investigate what is on the property too. Blessings to you, being a parent is such a joy.
I always squeel with delight when I see a new video. Then I groan with dismay when they end. They are always beautifully edited, music perfect and you two are so entertaining as well as beyond talented. Looking forward to next Sunday.
Been in the idaho woods for 50years as an Outfitter and logger and have never been assaulted by any animals.15 yrs in Northern Washington and never had any problems. Cat is the most likely culprit. Anything can happen.cats will most often run from 2 dogs barking. You have a beautiful area. I don't think you have much to worry about. You will be safer walking with the dogs. Unless you see sign of wolf's, I believe your animals are safe. Good luck on your adventure.
Courtney is a beast! She gets right in there. Drives all that big equipment and does all the work. She's awesome at drywall too. I hate all the mud and sanding.
So you have a cougar, that is awesome. As long as it has the deer, it will prefer them over your dogs. I spotted cougar tracks in your video as you were scanning the ground. If you learn to read sign. It can tell you the story what happened and identify the animal that did the killing. Coyotes rarely take down a healthy deer, but the cougar can do it easily. Coyotes are not pack animals like wolves are. So it is harder for them to kill healthy adult deer.
Having a big cat in the area is about as worse as it can get because they can climb better than a bear and have likely visited the deck already as well as check out everything it can smell. The night especially belongs to them, and you'll have to put a chain link top of on the dog run plus close of its door during those hours till its done. Indeed any activity at night needs to be more vigilant and monitoring around the house hopefully with a thermal camera since it and others will stand out like a neon sign.
13:21 and 13:26 are definitely shots of a cougar walking around your trucks....and the most likely character to be your deer predator (bear tracks would've been more evident). So as your kid starts to get big enough to be with you outside, be sure you get him wearing hoods/beanies/tooks that have "eyes" on the back. Cats attack from behind, are very drawn to smaller prey and are not so shy they wouldn't stalk your home area during the day, just waiting for that moment when you turn your back. I've seen several vids of that occurring the last few years. Big cats have always been a part of this area and they get less and less afraid of us as we move up into their home grounds. So it's good to just be aware that this is their home too, even if you don't see them. Great drywall job, by the way! Lynn
Your son is gonna be so lucky to grow up in this beautiful (and slightly scary) setting, not to mention learning how to build things from his parents. It's the dream childhood.
no i think he may not like it . kids like live where are more kids to play with . my cousin live in very woody era and he hated it cuz it was only him and his brother .when he come visit where i grow up he love it . i live in a park houses era with a lot of kids
@@funtyes1970 Nah... Just like there are all kinds of adults, there are all kinds of kids too, and they tend to be better at adapting than adults. This will be the only life he knows right from birth, so he won't know what he's missing anyway. Not to mention that there are plenty of ways to involve him in activities with other kids in town. In any case, plenty of kids grow up just like this and love it.
@@funtyes1970 Your cousin does not represent all kids, They are all different and have different likes and dislikes. Don't judge all kids by your cousin.
You two are just great! Seeing you build your area and your family together. With every cut of wood, every nail and screw what I am seeing is a wonderful couple and growing marriage. Wish you both the best.
Definitely cougar. They leave their kills and come back for them. I would encourage you to do some invisible fence training with your dogs and develop a trail cam perimeter around the main house. This will bring a lot more sense of security down the road when the little one is outside. If it were me, with all the trees, I'd have a close perimeter of cams, and a second one further out. A good way to do that is develop a trail that you can walk with the dogs, they'll mark it for you. Riley could add his own markings too. ;-) You have loads of time to establish that and probably work it into your content!
Now that y'all have a office / sewing room for Courtney, you need to start thinking about expanding your apartment for your expanding family. Your son will need a bedroom for himself in the future. Possibly, design and build your new home with picturesque view.
Hello Courtney & Riley! I am sure parenting is agreeing with you both! We appreciate the content while you learn about your bundle of Joy!🙏🙏🙏Blessing’s
It's completely normal to have lions in your yard, well you are in their yard actually. When you get around to building your chicken coop, build accordingly. I bet you have a couple dozen bobcats too.
Great video Courtney & Riley!! Courtney's office area looks amazing. As for the critter that is in the woods , I would venture to say it may be a large cat like a cougar. Have a great week that's full of smiles and good cheer.
Courtney the best way to mix the mud box is to remove it from box! Get a clean pail(5 gal) and turn mud box upside down! But first fold back plastic bag holding bag around the box invert and let the mud fall into pail Use what you need and when cleaning up, protect your mud by putting an amount of water over top of mud! Next day pore off an amount and then use your mixer to get the right consistency in your mud! Doing a great job finishing
Another great job! Thanks for taking us on your adventure again! I'm so excited for your future! (The baby!) I'm 20 years in front of you in years, just driving our youngest of 3 home from AZ College to home (WA) from college in a weeks. My advice for the two of you is to continue to enjoy each season. I look back at some of those slow, wet, cold, dry, broke days as some of my favorites! As a couple, continue to lock you arms together holding the shields that come against you (Spiritually). Enjoy your strengths, and complement your partners weaknesses. You guys are awesome! I want to see that baby! :) Slow down off camera as a priority and enjoy:)
Good you guys!!!! I have a tip for you. Take a finishing nail or small awl and poke holes ( 3 or 4 ) in the groove that the lid goes into so when you pour the paint it will drain out so you don't splash the paint everywhere. Keep up the good work and congrats on the hopefully soon to be new arrival!!!! 👍🎊🎉🤰🙈😉
Courtney looks marvellous! You look healthy and happy….great watching you guys getting this all together. I look forward to every Sunday to catch what adventure is next. For Riley, to confirm a cougar or mountain lion is simply look at what part of the animal was eaten first. Cougars usually start off by eating the stomach allowing them to get at the internal organs easier. At least that is what I have found in the back woods of British Columbia. Again thanks you guys enjoy your videos very much.
You could make a metal flower pot that goes around the stove exhaust pipe. Then plasma cut some cool shaped flowers that you can bend and shape to add to your flower pot. Paint the flowers with engine/bbq paint.
Awesome space! This video has me so excited for yall! ☺️ One thing that might really help the space be a good getaway and quiet place to work is to put some acoustic panels on the walls and ceiling of the shop to deaden the shop noise when Riley is working below!
I love this channel so much. Watching you two build your home in the wilderness has been a delight. And your attitudes and can-do demeanor is overwhelmingly refreshing. I don't comment on videos much, so best of luck to your 5 and I look forward to every upload you share! -Nate from Seattle, WA
Please, my young friends - add a grabrail to that stairway. With that metal siding, there is nothing to grab when you miss a step, no matter what or who you are carrying. I have learned the hard way over my many years designing and building. I very much admire both of you and who you are and what you do. I admit to just a bit of jealousy.
It's nice to have a home for your sewing machine! Mine shares with the guest room. I don't think it would go well in my office! Courtney, your office turned out great! I'm so excited for you both!! 🙏
Hi guys, We live in the S.Western area of Oregon and more than likely the deer was probably taken down by a cougar. Bears can be fast, but a cougar is MUCH faster. One early evening, my wife and I were sitting in the living-room watching the news on TV and a herd of 5 or 6 deer went blazing across the yard 10 feet from the picture windows in a full tilt run. Two seconds later a very large cougar went flying past hot on their tails. As soon as the deer went down the embankment and hit the driveway, they split up and went in all different directions. The cougar must have been chasing them for a while because when it got to the driveway it just stopped, out of breath, stood there for 5 or 10 seconds panting and then just walked on into the woods. Yeah, when I go hiking in the area, I take an old retired ski-pole, without the basket on it, as first line of protection (very sharp pointy hardened steel tip) as a walking stick, backed-up with a sheath knife and a .357 in case of a bear that might not take a repeated shouted "GO AWAY" as a warning. Usually they are more afraid of us and will avoid us, but sometimes not.
I absolutely LOVE your uploads... and THIS path you are on is excellent!! It is so encouraging to see you two share your creative imagination with us and then make all those dreams a reality. Very cool!!!
I think that was a cougar that strolled behind the truck. I would recommend approaching kills with your phone video taping the surrounding area. Tracks will tell the story. That was probably a lion kill. There seems to be no shortage of game on your property. Turkey, deer, elk, all good clean protein. Love watching you guys. You make a great team. Keep your dogs close by, they will tell you when danger approaches.
I live across the border in NW Montana in a very rural area on my 21 acres on the Clark Fork River. My beloved puppers are never out of my eyesight during the day when we’re outside, neither is my Ruger .44 magnum, bear spray and Marlin 45-70. During dark hours, I ALWAYS, go out first and scan the clearing into the woods around the house for eyes before I let them out to do some business, my .44 under my left armpit and flashlight in my left hand. My game cams have caught multiple black bears, elk, deer, turkey, a few mountain lions, a lot of coyotes and a badger. Haven’t seen a wolf or grizz yet! Mountain lions worry me the most. They’re so fast that I wouldn’t have time to get a shot off before one got to one of my babies. Stay safe!!
I'm sharing the following because I care and don't want to see anyone go through what I did. Please wear a mask when you are sanding your drywall work. I was fixing up our house from Nov 2019 to Fed 2020. I got a bad lung infection and it messed me up from March 2020 to about August of the same year. (After 8 plus test = it was not Covid) But I could hardly breathe and I was in and out of the hospital. My lungs will never be the same. Please take the extra steps to protect your lungs. BTW - I wish I could make the mudding look as easy as you did. All the best to you both and the new addition. Grin
@webbcityfilms my both wife's work hall time she was pregnant and how do you not know maybe she wanted to do the work . most pregnant think they should get some special treatment they sure wouldn't make it in 1800's or early 1900's
😎👍👍👍Your Barndominium is lovely, and so functional. I would advise more trail-cams, and talk to your neighbors that live closest to you about predator wildlife. Keep the dogs in and safe during dawn and dusk hours, when most hunting is done. The good news is the kill was made down the road, not on your doorstep. So you probably don't need to define your border compound with your urine. Your petroleum products are doing that for you. Enjoy paradise, You got this!❤❤❤
After moving 8 times in the military, I know the feeling of putting up personal stuff really makes it feel like home. I suggest viva paper towels and water instead of baby wipes oh and zip up pjs at night buttons are a challenge at three am. Good luck 👍
Riley, you may have covered this in previous videos (although I have viewed most all of them!), but I hope you two have firearms to protect yourselves out there, especially on the solitary walkabout predator search you're doing in this video!
With a child on the way you should consider building a railing about six feet tall and with a screen covering to keep the little one froexploring and touching a red hot chimney.
Excellent work as usual. My recommendation would be to carry a rifle or sidearm when you go into the woods. Something can happen in an instant. You have to be ready to defend yourself if you need to. John from Cape Cod
Your new space really looks good you've really done it smartly. Courtney you got your dream office and Riley has made you happy. Thanks for sharing your latest challenge keep smiling Courtney you look beautiful.
You two are amazing. When you decide to paint the upper wall I have 4 tiers (20') of scaffolding with wheels you can use. I don't live too far from you. Thanks for letting us follow your build, keep up the good work. Mark.
I'd say you have found the prize of a Mountain Lion. The fact that the deer carcass was dragged away is why I'm leaning towards the Mountain Lion. The coyotes may have enjoyed some of the deer, or may have even killed it, the lion dragged it off and most likely hid it. I see that you have an abundance of wild game roaming around your property, and I hope you're both hunters. Having a freezer filled with wild game is very satisfying and certainly agrees with your off grid life. I'm sure that your viewers would enjoy any home hunting video's you have to share. As always, great videos. Faithful viewer from Hollis New Hampshire.
I love that you prerecorded a few weeks of videos to catch us up but also so that you have some much needed time with the baby. Riley, I hope you get a few more trail cams so you can monitor things. The office looks great. 💕
I highly recommend 'SOLAR' GAME CAMERAS, and using 'Lithium En ergizer' batteries, because they won't corrode if you leave them in to long. The cameras are the most beneficial when catching PEOPLE near the property. And viewing it all on your phone.
Your drywall is done perfectly! Excellent job by Courtney! Especially since she is on her trimester!! And I love that type of flooring. Awesome video as always!
I just started using small solar trickle chargers on all my tractors and they have really been saving my batteries. Great through the winter, it doesn't take much to keep the cold from killing them permanently.
Hey guys. Word of advise: Keep a charger on your batteries in your machines. It saves your batteries a long way and you don't have to buy new once all the time. And I guess your Solar storage should be able to supply the little energy need for this. Of cause you will need to buy many chargers and wires for them, but I think it would be worth the while. Warm greetings from Denmark and the electrical engineer with a lot of battery knowledge.
Very nice. With Riley's fab skills go prowl a building salvage yard or a Habitat Re-Store and round up a bunch of sliding windows. Daddy could probably fab a set of triple bypass panels that could be "open" for warm days but yet be staggered into an an overlapping pattern and keep the heat inside the work area. pretty much pt "mom" in a display case.
Great work guys Good thing Courtney is there to do the finish work. Got my Army truck tee, looks great. Can't wait till the weather breaks to see what the next big project will be. Wishing you all the best in the future. Enjoy your son during his early growing years
The black tip tail..it's a mountain lion. Most likely the what took down the deer. Seems like you have quite a few deer in your immediate area, so would avoid being outdoors between dusk and dawn when they are hunting.
Something you guys should look at is installing trickle chargers on everything with a battery all the equipment and toys $50-$100 for each one. They will pay for themselves with a couple battery replacements from things freezing. As well things always start, which is convenient.
The addition is nicely done and efficiently designed. I love that all the engineering education was applied to a DIY project and shared generously. Inspiring. The only part that gives me anxiety is the half wall, stairs and hot smoke stack with a future toddler around. But I suppose the half wall could be childproofed with a tempered glass enclosure to the ceiling. Stairs could receive soft padded covering and maybe be redesigned to wrap around in a square spiral with short runs and landings and be less steep. Insulation or maybe fire brick enclosure around the stove pipe could be childsafe. If the loft office is meant to be adult space only, maybe adding a door with an alarm on the staircase entry at the bottom could offer childsafe design that is better than climable gates. Whew, I feel better already. As for childproofing against outdoor predators, door alarms throughout the house are easy installs and inexpensive. There are wireless systems made for pool gates. Many transmit to phones as well as sound an audible alarm at the entry door. Toddlers on occasion roam inside the house during the night, and curious tykes have enough dexterity to unlock deadbolts and venture outside while parents are sleeping, so toddler alarm systems are not a luxury out there. Maybe an episode on those would be interesting. Best wishes, A fellow Idahoan
We use battery maintainers from Harbor Freight, the more expensive ones, to keep our batteries from dying prematurely on our lawn tractors and other machinery. It also extends the life of the batteries. Before putting the maintainers on, we would have to replace the batteries every two years. Our lawn tractor battery is going on 7 years at this time.
Use code AMBITION50 to get 50% off your first Factor box: bit.ly/3L8RAEw
Are you ever going to replace the missing piece of insulation on the big door?

no i think he may not like it . kids like live where are more kids to play with . my cousin live in very woody era and he hated it cuz it was only him and his brother .when he come visit where i grow up he love it . i live in a park houses era with a lot of kids
Courtney, it is nice your office/sewing room is finished so now you have your 'get away' space. Blessings to you folks.
...and it's right off your living area....great thinking for extra space!!
100% Cougar. The glimpse of the lions tail as it walked behind the vehicle.
Riley could add his own markings too. ;-)
You have loads of time to establish that and probably work it into your content!
The long curved tail with darker fur at the end is that of a big cat, for sure.
I know it is early, but you will need a baby gate that goes down the stairs. For making your office baby proof. Been there and done that. Looks great.
Riley, I hope you keep a pew pew strapped to your hip for such wanders! Most off grid people do!
Pour vs poor vs pore
:) Slow down off camera as a priority and enjoy:)
good sized mountain lionsneaking around your truck!
Congrats on hitting over 300K subscribers. You done good girl! The both of you are such a delight to watch interacting on all your projects.
Ah, a baby. Congratulations! This is a life-changing event. You will find out. 🙂
@ 13:20 .... That's a HUGE kitty !!!! ( Mountain Lion )
4:02 - thank you for remembering us Metric Units users. We also watch your channel in this part of the World.
Celcius is not truely metric. But much better than the Fahrenheit nonsense
Thank you so much! ☺️
I just found your channel. I cannot believe how talented you are at drywall and mud. Stay safe out there!
Sidearm is a very good idea. Very nice and cozy office.
Yeah a pissed and hungry cougar is no joke!
Hi guys,
We live in the S.Western area of Oregon and more than likely the deer was probably taken down by a cougar.
Hello fellow North Idahoans! 🌲 Our guess on the fallen deer is… a mountain lion probably took it down, but was likely ran off by a pack of coyotes.
Most likely the case. Coyotes rarely succeed bringing down large game.
I wish You’d tell that to our Georgia coyotes, they don’t have any problems killing our deer.
You need to carry a 10mm, and it can take out just about anything out there. I'm happy that you 2 are about to become 3. ; )
You guys are great, an inspiration really. Always looking forward to your uploads, thank you.
Stay safe!!
What a blessing she is!!!
It's wild watching these videos knowing you guys are nesting right now with your new baby ...
Looks fantastic guys! You always do amazing work.
Grin
Courtney is a great drywaller! I hope you have a weapon out there to protect your family and pets if needed.
Right. Even if not the klik-pao variety, at least some bear spray.
@webbcityfilms my both wife's work hall time she was pregnant and how do you not know maybe she wanted to do the work . most pregnant think they should get some special treatment they sure wouldn't make it in 1800's or early 1900's
I love you two .Watching you has warm feeling like coming home after a long day away❤❤❤
Son increíbles!!!! Les quedó genial, muchas felicidades!!!!
Courtney, you are one heck of a woman! Job well done on your office! Riley, keep that woman close and treat her like the queen she is.
Enjoy paradise, You got this!❤❤❤
The cougar walking around their vehicles was plenty close enough to be concerning!
After moving 8 times in the military, I know the feeling of putting up personal stuff really makes it feel like home. I suggest viva paper towels and water instead of baby wipes oh and zip up pjs at night buttons are a challenge at three am. Good luck 👍
She's reall good at drywalling. Good technique.
Make sure your carrying a side arm walking the property!
Riley, get this girls two feet on solid ground, her work can wait until after she has the baby, the baby is far more important.
I don't want to say it's aliens... but it's aliens 🤣
Excellent work as usual. My recommendation would be to carry a rifle or sidearm when you go into the woods. Something can happen in an instant. You have to be ready to defend yourself if you need to. John from Cape Cod
Hope you carry a sidearm.
Knowing Riley as we now know him, I'm surprised he didn't cope the flooring to the steel siding. LOL It looks great.
Your new space really looks good you've really done it smartly. Courtney you got your dream office and Riley has made you happy. Thanks for sharing your latest challenge keep smiling Courtney you look beautiful.
A motion sensor video wildlife cam is definitely in order. Really enjoy all of your videos. So glad I found you.
Hopefully that mountain lion was just passing through the territory. Fantastic job as always. Best wishes. 👍
I love that you prerecorded a few weeks of videos to catch us up but also so that you have some much needed time with the baby. Riley, I hope you get a few more trail cams so you can monitor things. The office looks great. 💕
Yes, but WITH some firepower along!
Congratulations to you both…..you have achieved the impossible…..you are going to be a good parents….
Courtney
Excellent drywall work.
Courtney, you’re glowing. Great job on the drywall finishing and wishing the best for the new arrival.
Definitely a mountain lion. Big kitty
Congrats on 'your space', I know you'll find great solace there...
Even like the calming color.
Don't forget the lil space heater under the desk. 😄👍❤👏
Great work guys
Good thing Courtney is there to do the finish work.
Best wishes,
A fellow Idahoan
You look so beautiful you have that pregnancy glow!
