"overhype" or "overrated" is criticism of what other people think about the movie and not the movie itself, I always raise a brow when someone says "this movie is overhyped"

This movie belongs in the pantheon of spiritually redeeming art with It's a Wonderful Life, Sound of Music and Home for the Holidays!

Just gonna say that the movie is even more powerful the second time you watch it. I saw saw so many more details and felt so many more emotions.

I saw the movie this past weekend and I'm still recovering from it. I LOVED IT, but I am an emotional wreck from it. In the best way, though.

You’re 100% accurate I saw the first time and then the second time is the next weekend and loved it even more of the second time

Trivia: Ke Huy Quan was a assistant director to Wong Kar-Wai for 2046.

The daughter was the standout of the film I originally thought she was the American Gods season two girl but it’s just as good we have two reps and likely she can also sing. She should be a character in euphoria one where rue seeks an alternative source for speed from Stephanie Su as a common user pill popper in between cramming ap exams and late night college prep courses

Out of all the reviews that I viewed so far for this film, you guys are the only that picked up the cinematography to paid homage or influence of other directors. In the scenes where Everyln is a movie star with the smooth, charming and perhaps wealthy version of Raymond in that universe. Clearly that’s In the Mood For Love referenced , also just the theme of “what could of been love” in ITMFL where here Raymond simply said that the happy go lucky version of him enjoying doing taxes and other basic things with her are all that he wanted in their marriage. This while the “I could of been somebody and not a bum” Everyln can’t at the time share the same love for Raymond. Well executed scenes and nice touch for cinemphiles.

I think you cannot spoil this movie if you described everything you possibly could about it, because there is something in the experience of it that defies description. For instance: among all the amazing aspects you didn't mention the mind altering sound track. Can't really spoil that. I found it online and still cry at several points. Speaking of which, great job holding back from describing the Waymond scene that brought tears... I cry just thinking about.
But I have to applaud your great review because of how spoiler-free it was and still do a fantastic job of describing it accurately. Which makes me eager to hear your spoiler review.
I've seen it six times (so far) and see new things each and every time. I'm just searching the TH-cams for reviews to make some sense of how this movie changed my life, and find a sense of community that resonates with the new magical way that I see existence. I'm glad to bump into yours. Virtual hugs and thanks.

I also kept thinking of Scott Pilgrim and the Matrix while watching this movie. The action and humor were great. The story and themes are fairly simple, but it was enjoyable to watch. Definitely see it in a theater so you can be locked in.

Nice review. I really appreciated how you guys highlighted the homages to other directors. I did find it a bit ironic how you contrasted this movie from Marvel movies though, considering that the movie shares so many actors, stuntmen, producers, cinematographer, and even casting director with Marvel movies.

It wasn't something you did consciously, but you made a difference in the introduction between "Asian" and "American". The unfortunate implication being the white guy with the German name must be "the American director"; the Asian guy, not so much. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert were both born and reared in the U.S. -- Kwan in Massachusetts and Scheinert in Alabama.

you lost me at "there's a lot of asian actors who we wanted to make sure we were pronouncing their names right, but the American director we always forgot..." ... well with the exception of Michelle Yeoh, the other lead Asian actors and the other director, who is asian and named Daniel, are all American. #dobetter
