We stayed for the credits, fully expecting hundreds and thousands of names, and was surprised at how short the credits were for such a labor intensive film. So many matched shots with costume and make up changes. Such detailed sets. Kudos, guys!! Creativity trumps budget!!
I always finish credits as well. I'm not in the industry, but I'd love to! Even just for tiny parts like being one of those set drivers that are always credited in. Also, for animated films, "production babies" or pets is also a cute detail I've noticed.
The fact that this movie, which has a budget of only 25 million (still pretty high for an indie movie), looks as good as Marvel movies with budgets in the hundreds of millions is crazy to me
The reason this looks so good is because most of these effects are practical, or have a lot of practical elements. That's why Star Wars looks so good even today- practical is always better if you can swing it! Unfortunately, film practical effect artists are almost always union workers, and big movie companies like Disney prefer to make everything CG so they can get away with underpaying people (unions mean higher salaries!), but that's another story entirely. What a freakin amazing movie!
That depends on what's needed to be done. For example, a lot of the effects in Disney movies are easier to make on computers than in real life. (Imagine the cost of building all the stuff for a MCU film). Another big reason why Disney prefer CGI is that they're able reuse them. There are ~30 MCU films, all connected, with many more on the way. It's easier for animators to pull up old stuff on a computer and reuse them. Or edit them slightly into something different. They could just put the actors in front of the green screen and pull up some background they made 10 years ago. Done. EEAAO is a 1 time movie. The stuff they make will not get used again. It was the right decision to stick with practical effects. Disney is playing the long game. With a gazillion Star Wars and MCU films on the way, it's just cheaper for them to keep stuff computers and reuse them.
@@elsonlam You think DISNEY lack the money to pull off practical effects? The corporation and shareholders are so money hungry that they rather "save" budgets, put directors on tight deadlines plus not compensating artists than play the long game of taking time plus investing money to make sth lasting out of IPs they bought. It's always about the quick money for shareholders that's why big franchises Star War and Marvel looks so generic and have hollow, standardised storylines.
@@justalostlocal even with all the shortcuts and cheats that Disney uses in their moves their average blockbuster costs 8x as much as EEAAO. So yes, even Disney could start to see some major losses if they had to go with more practical effects

So incredible to see how such a small budget film could get so far, not only in the awards season, but with the audience, so many people loved it, hated it, but none left it under the radar which is groundbreaking, it's art
I can't stop thinking about this movie. As an editor, the jump cuts, effects, and style was perfect for this movie. Absolutely loved it and appreciate it so much. Makes me want to jump into After Effects again!
hearing about the challenges they faced due to the pandemic makes these visual effects even more impressive hearing it was only 5 people who brought the effects to life is just insane. some of the best VFX i’ve ever seen
When my mom and I saw this we cried multiple times and the first thing my mom said when we left the theater was that she wanted to see it again. It truly was incredible! Very inspiring to see how few people put in so much effort and it came out great! I absolutely recommend it
Bottom line - the low budget meant that this fantastic team had to really choose what VFX they wanted and how to do it creatively. Those huge Marvel movies have huge budgets so they just throw in more and more stuff which is not necessary at all times. It’s kinda like giving a kid too much pocket money.
@@juliannehannes11 Well, I don't think $25M is low-budget, maybe mid-budget. Moon ($5M) is low-budget, but you'd never know it - only by counting the actors at the end would you have any idea ... Remember Blair Witch project was shot for $70,000 on a DV Camera, Halloween was shot for < $100k, actors acted in their street clothes ...
$25 million is not a "low-budget" movie. It's a mid-budget movie. $25 million in the world of indie filmmaking is a FORTUNE. Even if it's $16 million, it's still a giant budget for an independent film.
This is a huge reason why I think this movie deserves to win Best Picture (not that it matters since it's still a great film). It's good all-around and was made with a low budget and small team. A true achievement in filmmaking.
This movie really defined what multiverse is all about- really inspiring on how only 5 guys were able to accomplish such a big feat , Loved it and I suggest everyone should watch it

Like compare this to the new dr strange (which also has a multiverse concept) and you can clearly see how EEAAO is leagues above dr strange in terms of innovation and creativity
Most blockbuster directors are a joke nowadays and it sad... they are there not there due to skill or passion but politics and who they know.. look at marvel and disney (cough ryan johnson)
This is so cool. I didn't know Daniel Kwan directed/wrote one of the episodes of the Legion tv series on FX in 2019. It's one of my favorite shows, what a small world
Inspiring! I imagine this can only be possible when you remove a lot of creative red tape and let the VFX artists breath and do their thing without much hierarchy.
The decision to have the effects done by music video/commercial directors who do their own effects was genius. Each person's regular livelihood depends on finding clever ways to sell an effect cheaply.
I would NEVER had guessed the effects were done by a team of five people. They're absolutely amazing, we salute your creativity and adaptability. And what a stunning movie!

This is how when people are really, really inspired and creative, they can do a lot on a shoestring. What a masterpiece this film is on so many levels.
@@nahbdjd4435 yes, except Disney definitely has the resources to put together the most astounding VFX, and instead, they go the lazy route and make some of the dullest, lifeless visual effects that are void of any contrast, color, or artistic expression because it is "safe" and "cheap". There's literally no excuse for that. These guys made a movie that actually stands out visually, and with less than 5x the budget probably.
Zak Stoltz and team absolutely killed it, 500 VFX shots?! Also, shout-out to Daniel Kwan for 1:01 - So many directors talk as if Special Effects and Visual Effects are synonymous

Seen this in theatres yesterday, it's an amazing piece of art, funny, deep in thought, and probably a future cult movie. I love that they ditched all that CGI glowing streaks of light shxt, every action sequence feels solid.
I've been a filmaker for like 12/13 years. This movie instantly became my favourite film ever. What they achieved with this film. 100% prooves that the massive studio model most of the movies that get released today under. Shouldn't be the future of filmmaking. This should. small crew, who are exceptionally talented. Not 1000000 people + corporate studio interference mind you. When you have a massive corp like marvel, they're primary concern is making a profit. A small indy crew like this their primary concern is to make an incredible film. The results speak for them selves. One is a heartwarming original story. thgats well written, produced, acted, mixed shot. The other is BIG_MOVIE_PHASE_465_prt_7 They shot this in 38 days. In primarily one location. Endgame took 10 months. Shot all over the world. But it just goes to show. 5 talented artists that are well directed create a better more believable visuial product than a multibillion dollar production giant. why? Too many cooks + studio interference.
I imagine miniscule stuff like the trailer hierarchy is a big part of why a project that can be realistically/logistically be done in months are done in half a year. Things that are not really necessary to the project making.
@@cheesecakelasagna im a bit confused by your questions can i ask you to rephrase so i can give you the rght answer? the trailer doesnt have much impact on shooting scheulde usually. dont get me wrong there are productions that do and it can be common. but its not a common thing to plan the shooting schedule of the drafted trailer concept. they are more likey to have a rough idea in pre production. then half way through shooting start cutting the trailer. and then finish and polish in post. making drops and additions to the trailer along the way. is that what your asking ???
@@Lightgrenadez7777 My bad, I meant literal trailer vehicles. I guess that so tangential detail seeped in the front of my mind since I recently watched a video where a guy was given a trailer even though his role is essentially a cameo as a way to give him the Hollywood treatment since he's a big part in the fandom of the movie they were making. And other stuff that makes one feel like you're stepping up in Hollywood that's not necessarily related to the actual filmmaking itself.

I had a bit of a multerverse mega day and watched this + multiverse of madness. MoM just seemed like endless romp through SFX with a vague story draped over it, whearas EEAaO was a fully-fledged film. I feel like EEAaO achieved what MoM couldn't because of the special effects. Zak knocks it on the head with "It really needs to stay grounded in what's going on in the strory, the visual effects should never overtake that."
This style of effects will ALWAYS trump the overdone CGI in too many films these days. It has such a wholesome, imaginative feel, its like halfway between reading a book and imagining something and seeing something visually. Absolutely love it. It just seems to activate your imagination instead of purely giving you something to watch. Mad respect to the crew who put this together
there are lots and lots of movies that didn't do justice on their big budgets... then there are movies like this that you just can't fathom how they managed to fit all those scenes with a budget that's tighter than all those superhero costumes they make in other movies
It's mindblowing how the VFX on this movie, despite being world class on a budget, was second to the acting and writing quality. An overall phenomenal film that deserves its place in the archives.
After what they were saying, I do realize the VFX isn't crazy in this moive, and they worked in a very effective and smart way to create those visual effects. The end result is phenomenal. But 5-person team? This is still unbelievable.
I knew it must have been low budget with the small cast and the great amount of practical effects, but the sheer amount of love and genius raised it easily above many other budget-breaking movies
This is genuinely very inspiring for me as a creative. These guys prove you that don't necessarily need an enormous budget or vast resources to make something incredible.
I’ve just seen it, yes late I know, but this the first movie I’ve seen in a looooong time that had the same feel as all my favourite 80s movies; a simple core idea expanded into a fully formed fictional universe that offers an engaging narratively solid ride and feels like the whole BTS team was onboard and passionate about it. Cinema lives again! Good lord I so hope they won’t drown in yes-men and bigger budget responsibilities now.

I completely thought of George Lucas and the prequels as I heard this part of the video. No really Marvel, as the Russo brothers are producers of this film.
These guys are rad. Mind blowing that five people completed these vfx.
It might seem obvious, but I really enjoyed that one scene near the end when Evelyn experiences all the universes, but it goes for a longer duration than usual. It felt so trippy, and being in a dark theater room made it feel much more engulfing, if that makes sense. I loved it.
I remember that. One of the few scenes in a movie that sucked me into the screen and I just couldn’t look away.
just for that scene they shows a lot of universes. Amazing scene!
Absolute goosebumps
Man I was on the verge of having an out of body experience during that scene, completely sober. Ive never had the feeling before in my life and for a movie of all things to give me that experience? Wow. Just, wow.
Yeah that scene made me feel high just watching it. You're talking about the scene with the bagel behind Evelyn, where Joy is telling her to come with her and she's looking the other way, right? Intense scene.
Nothing about this movie screamed low budget!! This movie was beautiful throughout - story, acting, visuals...everything just on point!
That's because it wasn't low-budget. $25 million is a fortune for a film like this.
I could legit watch a commentary of them breaking every effect down
I agree lol
This movie is what Doctor Strange 2 should've been, this is how you do a multiverse movie.
Lol don't compare this to Dr strange. That movie has a completely different story. In that movie the multiverse and how it works has been defined by other marvel movies.
I saw that Dr strange had a budget of 200mil and Everything Everywhere had 25mil, but somehow the two films are just incompareable lmao
@@WenQixz And it still managed to do NOTHING with it. While this movie managed to do EVERYTHING.

It’s kinda crazy how this movie is almost on the visual scale of a standard Marvel movie yet on a smaller budget.
Yeah a wayyyy smaller budget and team and yet the creativity is unmatched
Marvel VFX sucked tho, all those blurry shots and whatnot
The fact that this movie, which has a budget of only 25 million (still pretty high for an indie movie), looks as good as Marvel movies with budgets in the hundreds of millions is crazy to me
@@petey5009 looks way better tbh
Doctor strange has no say to this movie. This movie beats multiverse of madness
@@justalostlocal I don’t know, the Star Wars sequel trilogy had many issues but I thought they looked great and they had a lot of practical effects
Watched it in the cinema two days ago. It's so amazing. Hilarious, melancholic, thrilling, moving, awe-inspiring. It's truly a must-watch!
RIGHT
I want to watch it _🤚😭_
That sounds amazing
Laughing, gasping and crying in a cinema full of people was awesome. Loved the energy. Everyone applauded at the end.
What’s the movie name ?
Watching this film is the closest experience to witnessing a masterpiece of art being created for the entire human history. It's already a classic and I'm living in it!
It’s is an absolutely flawless and brilliant film. Beautiful in every way. Everyone who has the ability to see this movie in a theater should 100% see it. It’s phenomenal
Agree
So incredible to see how such a small budget film could get so far, not only in the awards season, but with the audience, so many people loved it, hated it, but none left it under the radar which is groundbreaking, it's art
I can't stop thinking about this movie. As an editor, the jump cuts, effects, and style was perfect for this movie. Absolutely loved it and appreciate it so much. Makes me want to jump into After Effects again!
Every additional video I watch about the cast or crew makes me love this movie even more. Absolutely incredible
This looks mind-blowing. I can't wait to see it! Huge congrats to the small and extremely talented team behind the film!
Yes!
Did you see it yet?
@@Eserr7856 I did, and the movie went waaaay beyond my expectations. It was a truly singular movie-going experience, I thought.
look at these mad lads changing the title after the Awards.
hearing about the challenges they faced due to the pandemic makes these visual effects even more impressive
hearing it was only 5 people who brought the effects to life is just insane. some of the best VFX i’ve ever seen
When my mom and I saw this we cried multiple times and the first thing my mom said when we left the theater was that she wanted to see it again. It truly was incredible! Very inspiring to see how few people put in so much effort and it came out great! I absolutely recommend it
This film was one of the BEST movies I’ve ever seen. I loved everything about this movie and the visual effects were AMAZING
Bottom line - the low budget meant that this fantastic team had to really choose what VFX they wanted and how to do it creatively. Those huge Marvel movies have huge budgets so they just throw in more and more stuff which is not necessary at all times. It’s kinda like giving a kid too much pocket money.
It's amazing to me how excellent this movie looks for only $25 million.
I legit thought they had a big budget and an underpaid team of 500 rotoscopers
@@juliannehannes11 Well, I don't think $25M is low-budget, maybe mid-budget. Moon ($5M) is low-budget, but you'd never know it - only by counting the actors at the end would you have any idea ... Remember Blair Witch project was shot for $70,000 on a DV Camera, Halloween was shot for < $100k, actors acted in their street clothes ...
I think the budget less than 25 million, according to Daniels is 16 million.
U got your wish
Well
This movie really defined what multiverse is all about- really inspiring on how only 5 guys were able to accomplish such a big feat ,
Loved it and I suggest everyone should watch it
Bruh vfx in this movie was better than on the some marvel/dc titles. Proof that the paramount thing in movie production is passion and ideas, not the money.
It's independently made!? So that's why it's not yet available in my country. Definitely going to watch it when it's in theaters.
I have so much respect for the editors. These 5 artists put the big name studios to shame with their creativity and just overall amazingness.
Only 5 people working on this? Now I need to see the Corridor Crew do a VFX artist reacts to this because this is amazing.
Every generation has Movies that should be experienced in a movie theater. Everything, Everywhere, All at once is that movie.
This is so cool. I didn't know Daniel Kwan directed/wrote one of the episodes of the Legion tv series on FX in 2019. It's one of my favorite shows, what a small world
Its pretty underrated too
The practical effects were so cleverly done! I hope EEAAO becomes a part of film making history in decades to come.
One of the most beautifully written and made movies to ever come out in the past decade!!!!!
This should get more recognition than any Disney movie
So underrated
HOW IS THE WORLD NOT BLOWING UP TALKING ABOUT THIS?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
And to think nearly a year after this vid, they won several Oscars. This movie means so much to me for a dozen reasons. The "simplicity" and practicality of their methods just blows me away and love them even more
This movie was so wonderful. I love it even more learning how small the team was. A masterpiece, I hope this gets recognized by more people!

After watching the movie I would have never guessed so few people were working on special effects.
I get they weren’t “perfect” but it really looks amazing what they pulled off.
The other is BIG_MOVIE_PHASE_465_prt_7
They shot this in 38 days.
@@cheesecakelasagna
im a bit confused by your questions can i ask you to rephrase so i can give you the rght answer?
the trailer doesnt have much impact on shooting scheulde usually. dont get me wrong there are productions that do and it can be common. but its not a common thing to plan the shooting schedule of the drafted trailer concept.
they are more likey to have a rough idea in pre production. then half way through shooting start cutting the trailer. and then finish and polish in post. making drops and additions to the trailer along the way.
is that what your asking ???
@@Lightgrenadez7777 My bad, I meant literal trailer vehicles.
I guess that so tangential detail seeped in the front of my mind since I recently watched a video where a guy was given a trailer even though his role is essentially a cameo as a way to give him the Hollywood treatment since he's a big part in the fandom of the movie they were making. And other stuff that makes one feel like you're stepping up in Hollywood that's not necessarily related to the actual filmmaking itself.
coolest movie project I've seen in a long while, they're all so passionate end excited about the whole progress and I love that
Every single review of this movie needs to be only 4 words: "Go see it now". Done.
My son had been begging me to see it, he took me to see it today at the theater, I had no idea it was a sci-fi movie, I knew nothing about it and I am so glad because every minute I watched, was absolutely new to me. It was great!! Awesome message and the actors? Top notch, no wonder they won so many oscars for this movie!
I saw this yesterday and it was truly one of the most fun theater experiences I’ve had since seeing ‘Sorry to Bother You’! It was so new, creative, silly, heartfelt, and awe inspiring. I loved it so much, and I’m amazed it only took 5 people to pull off what it did
I had a bit of a multerverse mega day and watched this + multiverse of madness.
I looove how much of this was practical. So refreshing compared to a lot of big budget films nowadays
This was probably the most creative new film I've seen in a while, and that says a lot..so congratulations to this guys!
I saw this 3 weeks ago trippin ballzzz and let’s just THAT was a journey I was not ready for! Arguably the greatest movie ever!
sometimes it's not about the equipment of how expensive it is. It's about the passion.
I love it when small companies, small crew, small budgets (well, relative to big blockbusters anyways) make great movies and get big success.
The VFX & SFX were incredible! Thank you for this breakdown!
I’m so obsessed with this movie!!! The amount of effort put into this perfection was insane
Everything Everywhere All At Once isn't a movie. It's an experience. I feel like I lived a whole lifetime while watching it
there are lots and lots of movies that didn't do justice on their big budgets... then there are movies like this that you just can't fathom how they managed to fit all those scenes with a budget that's tighter than all those superhero costumes they make in other movies
This movie, vfx team, writer, director and actors all deserve an oscar.
I literally got “turn down for what” vibes when I first saw some of the fight scenes
Best movie I’ve ever seen.
It’s one that sticks with you months after watching it.
This is still unbelievable.

this movie was a LIFE experience
I knew it must have been low budget with the small cast and the great amount of practical effects, but the sheer amount of love and genius raised it easily above many other budget-breaking movies
This movie is a testament that skills >>> budget
Only a team of 5 people did this, that's incredible I recently watched this movie and it's amazing and mind-blowing 👏
This is genuinely very inspiring for me as a creative. These guys prove you that don't necessarily need an enormous budget or vast resources to make something incredible.
I would have never guessed everything was so clean and truly an awesome experience!
Just watched it. Can confirm the SFX was amazing.
