  • ICArEHB Dialogues ‘Community and Social Engagement’ (15:50), took place on the 26th of November, in videoconference, with Dr. Sara Cura, Dr. Sarah Kansa, and Dr. Maria Vicente and was convened by Dr. Sara E. Rhodes.
Archaeologists today understand that their work can and should reach beyond the confines of the academic world. To make their interpretations more accessible, we are increasingly (1) embracing open science practices, by sharing data and results transparently, (2) pursuing collaborative planning, through citizen science initiatives, and (3) engaging in science communication, ensuring that knowledge is accessible and relevant to the public interest.
This approach democratizes archaeological knowledge while fostering a sense of ownership and stewardship over local heritage. This engagement ensures that archaeological findings are not just academic artifacts but living parts of the community’s ongoing story, and that academic research benefits the communities connected to archaeological sites. And such an approach is a cornerstone of the future of Archaeology.
