Good to see you started posting again shortly after I realized I didn't have notifications turned on. Gonna have to buy a strap now just to show my support for the traditional clicking.
thanks. I love shooting these types of videos. Unfortunately, due to the small size and views of this channel (and low likes) I can not afford to make videos like this very often. Until I can grow this channel, these types of videos will be once or twice a year. If I can grow this channel, I'll do these once every month or two. Thanks for your support.
Thanks, yes Victor and I really have a good time talking shop, but this video proves that we can actually take pictures too! Ha ha. We really didn't have any expectations, but in the end it turned out (although we're missing half our pictures!!)
It turned out great! Every time I watch one of your videos, I want to go out and shoot immediately. But now it's 11PM XD Tomorrow definitely I'll do some street on film, I'm traveling with a Leica M4P and some rolls of Ilford HP5+ (and a Fuji GS645 and Acros for landscape). Or should I try street on medium format? Hmmm… Now I'm wondering… Anyway, always a pleasure to watch, thank you, Take
thanks! Try street with medium. I did it with the Hasselblad 503CW and the 80mm f/2.8. It was tough but you eventually get a sense of timing and framing. I think the GS645 was designed as a street style medium format camera. It doesn't belong on a tripod. Good night and happy shooting!
my favorite pic of Victor is the woman climbing the stairs because it reminds me of the movie Sparrow. My favorite of BHT is the four men because of the mouvement and because it was courageous to take it ; with a 35mm you were probably not far from them! btw, Victor is so cool, he should be more often in your videos ;)
TH-cam needs a 1-5 star rating system like Netflix. I've spoken to them with my contact at TH-cam. I don't think it's a priority for them. But for creators, a binary algorithm is too simplistic.
thanks. These videos are difficult to produce and take time. I want to do these maybe twice a year until my channel grows and I have the financial means to create more complex videos. But yes I had a blast shooting this video and shooting film too. It's my favourite type of photography.
I think this is a first that someone has tested and shown pics from a Perar 35mm lens on youtube. I'm quite impressed with the images from that lens. I'm wondering if both of you guys should have used an nd filter for some shots? Great and thanks for sharing with us.
Stopped down to f/8 and getting 1/250th of a second, a 2 stop ND filter would have given us 1/60th, much too slow. We shoot f/8 not to reduce the light, but to get better depth of field. In general, street photographers want more in focus, not less. We're not trying to blur out the background, as we want the subject's surrounding as part of the image. Blurring out the background is more for portraiture, and find that new photographers overuse it. I avoid shallow depth of field most of the time. F/8 for 35mm format as much as I can :-)
As for the Perar 35mm lens, yes I was totally impressed by it. I know Bellamy from JCH loves that lens and the MS Optical brand in general. If I may be so bold as to say that it rendered the ACROS film better than the Leica 35mm Summilux. Next time I'm going to borrow that lens. There's no point in having a f/1.4 lens if I'm stopped down to f/8 anyway. It did come in handy when shooting at night though, but for daytime street, f/3.5 is more than bright enough! Thanks for your comment
From the same guy who did that beautiful Light Meter Wheel for iOS, there's this ugly Light Meter for Android: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dq.fotometro It works, I use it a lot. There's an iOS app from David Quiles with that same ugly interface, but with that beautiful Light Meter Wheel, I doubt anyone still wants to buy the older one.
Well Done, BHT! Have you share your experience with 35mm lux and maybe compare it with 35mm cron! Does it worth to change or dont mind to boost up the iso instead? Regards from Sweden!
thanks. It really depends what you're shooting, but I rarely shoot wide open at f/1.4. Even in very low light, I think I shot wide open maybe once or twice after going through 12 rolls of film. If you shoot wide open all the time, and you're hunting for shallow depth of field, then consider the Summilux. However, I would say the difference between f/1.4 and f/2 isn't that discernible. Plus wide open, the Summilux exhibits pretty strong vignetting. Only by stopping down to about f/2.8 does it disappear. You can mostly see this in digital.
bigheadtaco thanks for taking the time to explain. I would say mostly portrait with ambient light! About 6 month I am hunting light in Sweden! does it bother that cover part of camera view finder, I was told by some photographer! Were you fine with the lens extra weight or preferred lighter and more compact like 35mm cron and increase your iso instead? Does the camera and body well balanced? Many questions buddy. As you know there are many forums that people share their opinions but to be honest I would hear yours cause if Im not mistaken you are not a particular "camera brand fan" And use all types of cameras and lenses so I believe you wouldnt mind to share pros and cons!
thanks. I love making them too, but these are difficult to shoot and produce. Probably only twice a year for these types of videos for now, at least until my channel grows and I have more funding to make these more often. Thanks again for watching.
Yeah for sure. Me and my wife try to do them every couple weeks, but the production value is lower. But what we have done is take turns filming the other shooting, and find that that makes it easier (don't have to bring a camera person along).
cool. I just saw your Rollei 35 vs Fujifilm video. You did that all by your lonesome. Ok, good idea. I'll give it a try. Thanks for the tip. Ryan from Arcade Original is pretty good with his time, so I may do another one in Vancouver. I just have to finish off all my previous videos before I start shooting new ones!! Keep up the good work.
thanks. I would love to have more of these types of videos but I live in Canada and most of my friends are in Asia. I can only do these types of videos once or twice a year until my channel grows and I can get more funding. Keep watching, keep liking, keep sharing and help my channel grow and I'll do these once a month :-)
@ BHT + Victor, Enjoyed your video. Pictures look great especially Victor's at 18 minutes, first class, definitely an interesting little lens. The Summilux had all the snap crackle and pop ;>) . The Acros is a truly super film, great blacks, extended mid-range, and sweet highlights-- But I think it's just way too sensible HP-5+ or Tri-X. Hong Kong looks like a wild place for street photography, I'm sure it would be a great place for some photo essays! it seems like the light meter app is only available for iPhones since I can't find it for Android... bummer, guess I'll stick to my Minolta III :^)
ACROS probably isn't the best film for street photography, but we made it work. The Tri-X or HP5 would have been better. Yes, Hong Kong is my favourite city for street photography. It's so compact and busy with interesting buildings and businesses. It's also a great place to shoot landscapes and nature, as most of Hong Kong is surrounded by a tropical rainforest. Hong Kong has some pretty amazing national parks and trials and beautiful beaches too. It's something rarely talked about.
I love all types of photography, including mobile. My preference of course is film 100%. For metering I have hand held meters as well as my mobile meters. Again, just tools. I often guess my exposures as I've done with my Cinestill series.
thanks. These take time and money, but it's great fun. If my channel becomes bigger, more followers, more likes, bigger sponsors, I could do videos like this once a month. For now, it's once or twice a year.
I guess it was just a running joke between me and Ryan. He basically wanted to show 10 days of GoPro footage in 1 minute. It makes me laugh only because I get every mili-second of it, and if you've seen all my vlogs and videos, you'll get most of it too! If not, maybe a bit dizzy....
Oh I see now, yes the Fujifilm sign. Well, Fujifilm Canada gave me the film to shoot this video, so I appreciate their support. In fact they gave me 2 bricks of film for this project. Fujifilm Canada is very supportive of me and my brand.
Yes film is not cheap. If you want to shoot consistently then buying film in bulk and loading yourself would lower your per roll price to about $4-5 dollars, develop at home and self scan. You save money but adds lots of time. It's worth it if you're looking for that film look though.
I worked for Kodak for 10 years and I shot professionally for many years as well. Both me and Victor come from film due to our age. We both love it. There are many like yourself who also come from the film generation who don't ever want to go back, and that's fine. It's definitely more work and more expensive in general. But film definitely has a unique look that many experienced photographers want, and can't get from digital photography.
Good to see you started posting again shortly after I realized I didn't have notifications turned on. Gonna have to buy a strap now just to show my support for the traditional clicking.
ha ha. thanks.
Wow production value x1000! Great video, thanks!
I love this video - great to see such a good humoured (but serious) shootout and I really like your new production style, music/intro/cutaways etc.
thanks. I love shooting these types of videos. Unfortunately, due to the small size and views of this channel (and low likes) I can not afford to make videos like this very often. Loved watching you two out on the town, just shooting for fun. Victor seems like such a nice guy!
Thanks for watching, and yes Victor is a very nice guy indeed!
Take! the quality of your videos is getting better and better. Really impressed :D
thanks, always trying to make the next video better than the last :-)
its workin haha and holy cow Acros looks amazing coupled with a leica. stunning tones
You two have great chemistry together! So entertaining.
Always fun to watch. Motivates me to experiment. Keep up the great work.
Great video, Take !! the shoot out was so much fun !! We have to do it again !!!!! Thanks all for your kind words !!
Hey Victor, thanks for participating, I'm glad you didn't flake out on me this time! Round 2: medium format street photography challenge!!
Let's do it !! My Rolleiflex awaits and I will not flake :)
ACROS is really beautiful. It seems you both really had a lot of fun doing this. Nice video.
Thanks, yes Victor and I really have a good time talking shop, but this video proves that we can actually take pictures too! Ha ha. We really didn't have any expectations, but in the end it turned out (although we're missing half our pictures!!)

You both produced some stunning compositions.
thanks!

Thanks. I'd love to have Victor and Mr.Chan and Joseph and Jeffo on as weekly guests, but alas, I'm 13 hours (by jet) away...
Thank you for those videos Take, I really enjoy watching them especially film challenge ! Keep up the good work. Click
thanks, click click!
Nice photos, and Acros looks like a lovely film!
thanks, yes I love the real ACROS. The film simulation is pretty cool, but it can not get the same tonality of the film
Well, I have ordered some ACROS now and am looking forward to seeing the results! It's a shame I am not shooting the film in Hong Kong!
TH-cam really needs a two thumbs up option. Great video and pictures!
thanks! Half the pictures are from Victor. I really like his images...
TH-cam needs a 1-5 star rating system like Netflix. I've spoken to them with my contact at TH-cam. I don't think it's a priority for them. But for creators, a binary algorithm is too simplistic.
12:52 that guy looking at his phone would have been a great shot also that orange building and people walking up. I want to go to hong kong :(
I was waiting for this video! Thanks!
me too, took a while to finish!
Really enjoy your VDO. Photos were great.
THANKS!
Take’s photo tell so much more stories, I really like it.
I really enjoy this video, it looked you were having fun and it works well with another person.
thanks. These videos are difficult to produce and take time. I want to do these maybe twice a year until my channel grows and I have the financial means to create more complex videos. But yes I had a blast shooting this video and shooting film too. It's my favourite type of photography.
very fun video and awesome images you two
thanks! We had a great time, regardless if the images turned out or not, but lucky for us it did (at least the b&w images did....)
So want a Leica for film....Great Video as always.
Thanks, me too!

What's the name of the App at 8:23?
Hey Take, what light meter app were you using?
Light Meter Wheel by David Quiles. I think it may be an Apple IOS app only though: itunes.apple.com/ca/app/light-meter-wheel/id720707253?mt=8
From the same guy who did that beautiful Light Meter Wheel for iOS, there's this ugly Light Meter for Android: play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dq.fotometro
It works, I use it a lot. There's an iOS app from David Quiles with that same ugly interface, but with that beautiful Light Meter Wheel, I doubt anyone still wants to buy the older one.
And also the paid version (no ads): play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dq.fotometroNa
Film still makes me wonder...
What was that app that you used on your cell phone? Was it a light meter?
Light Meter Wheel app for iOS only. It works best with single lens camera. apps.apple.com/us/app/light-meter-wheel/id720707253.

Very cool....I like it very :) 👌🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
What's the brand of the hand grip on your Leica that you're using in this episode?
It's actually from my Minolta CLE. It coincidently fits perfectly.
bigheadtaco Thank you
Great video, great images.
I love shootouts! This was awesome. Would love to see more of these.
thanks. I love making them too, but these are difficult to shoot and produce. Probably only twice a year for these types of videos for now, at least until my channel grows and I have more funding to make these more often. Thanks again for watching.

What is a good shop in HK to rent an M with Summicron for a day or 2 of shooting?
I don't know any place that rents lenses in Hong Kong. I'm sure they exist but I never saw them
@ BHT + Victor, Enjoyed your video. Pictures look great especially Victor's at 18 minutes, first class, definitely an interesting little lens. The Summilux had all the snap crackle and pop ;>) . 11:42 guy looking his phone plus guy across him and lady sitting down in the background :( 12:53 click! 12:59 click! 13:37 click!
Fun. The phones are just a distraction though - you know how to meter these scenes, have confidence, turn them off. And keep making great content!
I love all types of photography, including mobile. My preference of course is film 100%. For metering I have hand held meters as well as my mobile meters. Again, just tools. I often guess my exposures as I've done with my Cinestill series.

Yeah, I bet they are a lot of work. Nice job!
I'm such a big fan of you Take

awesome do more of this episodes
thanks. These take time and money, but it's great fun. If my channel becomes bigger, more followers, more likes, bigger sponsors, I could do videos like this once a month. For now, it's once or twice a year.

loved the intro, mighta been a smidge fast but

Left eye dominant on a rangefinder
13:00fujifilm 😂they should pay for that ads.
can't see the ads since they rotate... but in a way they are :-)
I guess he meant the Fuji sign on the video itself.
Oh I see now, yes the Fujifilm sign. Well, Fujifilm Canada gave me the film to shoot this video, so I appreciate their support. In fact they gave me 2 bricks of film for this project. Fujifilm Canada is very supportive of me and my brand.
I'll call it a draw.
just checked the price of films. 😂

if you comming from film, film is really not very special, in fact, i would never go back to film!
