    Funny timing, as I was just talking to my fiancée about catching and pickling herring while growing up back in NJ. She’s a Florida native, and isn’t much of a seafood person, but really liked the Vita pickled herring that I picked up at Publix. So that was a pleasant surprise for me, as I’d like to introduce her to more seafood.
    Anyway, while I wouldn’t doubt that threadfin herring (I could be wrong, but I think they’re more technically called threadfin shad, although I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone call them that in the 20+ years I’ve been in FL) can be used interchangeably, but the herring back up north were blueback herring. When just doing a little google comparison, the only notable difference I can find (besides the literal threadfin hanging from the dorsal) is that the bluebacks average size is nearly double that of the threadfin.
    Ok ….enough of my TH-cam lesson plan for today. Nobody gaf 😂
    p.s.- in my 44 years, I’ve never even thought of a fish meatball. Those looked PHENOMENAL. I will definitely give them a try. Maybe even a different style of sauce …. Alfredo sauce, or maybe something along the lines of a picatta served over angel hair. The ideas are endless…..

    • @CookingWithClams
      @CookingWithClams  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That's funny how you mention what people think of the same fish from different areas. What comes to my mind is mullet. Here on the east coast of Florida, we consider them bait fish. However, on the west coast of Florida, they consider them as table fare. They are very commonly found on the menu all over the place. I've eaten them before and have to say they are excellent! Great video, and I'm sure those sandwiches were excellent! Cheers!
