I too grew up watching Rick Bayless as a kid on PBS instead of watching cartoons! 😂 I still watch him on youtube. What a legend. Keep up the amazing content. It's so great to see the catch before the cook! 👌✌
Working as a mate out of Captree for a decade and more as a kid; I never once thought about eating a sea-robin. Must have thrown back thousands of them. Literally....perhaps more. My wife and I will recreate (or try our best) the salsa macha for sure this week. We are on FI (OB) until the 28th so we can easily get some sea-robins. P.S. - our fluke on the south shore are bigger🤭. Excellent video :)- went over to Mike's page and "following" him as well. I'll definitely want a pair of those custom knives.
Grew up on Rick Bayless also, very soft spoken but food is excellent. Once you get over the look and snorting of sea robins, they’re decent eating fish.
A lot of my friends absolutely hate sea robins. Me, I love 'em! Sea robins are one of the tastiest fish out there. When I can't catch my targeted species, sea robins always saves the day. I once cooked sea robins and fluke for my friends and they could not tell the difference in tastes. The only thing they can tell is that sea robin is slightly firmer in texture. That was really great for Mike for giving you such amazing knives. An order is coming your way Mike. Clams, still waiting for that book with Key West Waterman. That dish looks delicious btw!
loved it man those knives are so nice clean looking such nice asset to all the catch clean and cooks u do man, what a nice guy that he did that 4 you i applaud him and man very interesting catch and cook nvr seen or heard of the sea robin was definitely interesting but cant wait 4 the next show calms love ya dude!
That looked like an awesome trip. Skates are delicious and I don't think you will have any issues cleaning them just have to see it done once. Knifes look amazing too.
@@CookingWithClams oh so they do exist. Are they as poisonous as Lion fish? OBTW I ordered from keys seafood with Aaron’s code and got Mutten snapper for the first time, OMG soo good. The stone crabs “juice wasn’t worth the squeeze “ wow they’re tough.
i caught a fish just like this and it was called a red gurnard and it has loads of spines all over it with mild poison (ud never guess who spined themself) also sand eels are used for bait all over the uk too
@@CookingWithClams ahhhh thought it looked familiar when I clicked on it, the gurnard is a pain I got spiked and that was it, the seagulls had it so no waste but no reward either other then a light bee stinging finger and the thoughts of having to go hospital. 🤣🤣🤣
Love your videos Will but we need to see mama clams opinion on the food you cook.. I’m sure she loves whatever you make but would love to hear her opinion
Never could imagine eating a sea robin! Those were always trash fish… What town are you from?! I want to know when. The big doormats will be out?? I’m south shore..
Fluke have small but sharp teeth and will actively pursue minnows, bait fish and squid (and can therefore be caught on artificial lures). Flounder have rubbery lips but no teeth, and generally stick very close to the bottom; you'll want sandworms or clams for bait.
they do not make fake scalup out of skate the texture is not event close the meat is vary soft and the skin will make your lips and tounge tingle it has the same poisin as the blow fish just weaker you will love the fish good luck flukin
Yes they do make fake scallops from skate and rays doctordavidfriedman.com/blog/scallops-the-most-counterfeit-food There are many articles discussing it and it is widely known in the seafood world
Check out @langevin_knives on instagram and show mike some love. You can also email him with any knife related questions at Langevinknives@gmail.com

They’re like nothing I’ve ever owned
Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Dog fish got sea robins beat by a long shot
Ah true! Gotta cook one of them next
Great video! Always love your work! Good knife demonstration!
Thank you!!

Paul you did yourself a favor, could you imagine cleaning a party boats worth of those things?? Look up Rick Bayless salsa macha and follow his recipe

Just need big enough ones to make it with it. But I do like them

Right on! I couldn’t believe all the knives he made. I almost cried
We miss Momma Clams. Seen her walk in the background for 5 seconds. Momma Clam needs to eat too. LOL
She’ll be on a few coming up!
looks awesome!
Very nice gift! My mouth is watering for yhose tostadas, you nailed it once again, Will!😋😋😋😋
Thank you 😋

My mind was blown
Enjoy your channel! Will keep it up!
Thank you!!
Badass knifes. Thats a dream set
Incredible
I liked the recipe very Macha!
Another great installment!
At the end I should have revealed them like a magician, here are my tos - TADA
Very interesting dish Will. Not sure but I think as kids we used to call that a scorpian fish. Cheers!
Ah that’s a different kind of venomous fish, in the sculpin family I think
@@CookingWithClams oh so they do exist. Are they as poisonous as Lion fish? OBTW I ordered from keys seafood with Aaron’s code and got Mutten snapper for the first time, OMG soo good. The stone crabs “juice wasn’t worth the squeeze “ wow they’re tough.
That looks delicious but I sooo wanted you to cook the skate ! Skate and stingray are definitely a PITA to clean but the meat is amazing !
I will I promise, my head just wasn’t there and I didn’t want to do a mediocre recipe with it
Always been wanting to try Sea Robins, thanks for leading the way!
They’re actually quite good
@@CookingWithClams, I cleaned and cooked one once, and it was decent, but I always feel a little sorry for a fish that can sort-of talk!
I have roasted neck and bright white legs. Must be a fluke. Vodka/Wodka lemon/lime citron. Enjoyed seeing the nice fish. Thanks, Will.
Love this one
awesome CCC with the sea robin!!!
Thank you Mike!
Loved the video brother.
Thank you!
Sea robin makes the vest fish taco period!
I’m so happy my channel has found its audience! Yes they do!!
What steels are the kitchen knives made from?
Head over to langevinknives.com, Mike can tell you everything
Great video and love the knives.

Glad you enjoyed!

TNX 4 VID LOL
Thank you
Is that flounder? Also with Japanese style blades like that you want to use a wooden cutting board, the plastic boards can chip that super fine edge.
Summer flounder
bro went to boston around may! i hit 4 big Sea Robin took a chance and brought them home. my surprise they were pretty damn good
Right?? Just a pain to clean
@@CookingWithClams lol yes indeed
Sounds like like sea robin is similar to lion fish of the keys. Pain to deal with and low yield but tasty
Exactly but when you fishing for fluke sometimes you catch hundreds of them
If only taco bell carried CWC's ceviche tostada...
Beautiful knives that were carefully made instead of mass produced
Like nothing I’ve ever had my hands on. Just beautiful
Love your videos Will but we need to see mama clams opinion on the food you cook.. I’m sure she loves whatever you make but would love to hear her opinion
Got her on a few coming up
When I used to fish off the Capt Gillen out of Captree the sea robins got thrown back into the water! What a waste!!
The mates don’t wanna clean em! I don’t blame them
Never could imagine eating a sea robin! Those were always trash fish… What town are you from?! I want to know when. The big doormats will be out?? I’m south shore..
North shore, I hear south bays are hitting them
sea robins are good eats
Agreed
Fluke kind of looks like a flounder… but with an eye on either side.
Both have eyes on top
Fluke have small but sharp teeth and will actively pursue minnows, bait fish and squid (and can therefore be caught on artificial lures). Flounder have rubbery lips but no teeth, and generally stick very close to the bottom; you'll want sandworms or clams for bait.
Most hated fish? Gotta be the hardhead catfish lol.
Good point
Sea robin had roe in it
It did
Porgy/grunt master!!
Add sea robin
@@CookingWithClams 👍
sea robins....but I hate sand sharks more....lol
Dogfish haha yup
Toadfish, ugh. Slimy, slippery mottled orange things, and they *always* swallow the hook.....
Sorry I’m late amigo. What the “fluke” are we doing today?
Sadly NOT breaking my 8 year curse
Wish you would have kept that skate
Me too actually

Nah, the most disliked fish are toadfish at #2 and dogfish at #1. Cunners, skates, and sea robins dont even rate compared to those other two.
Dog fish are the WORST
Why are people so scared of fish bones. We always ate it all the belly and everything
No idea honestly
Not a fan of Rick Bayless’s brother Skip.
But what about his recipes, not him
@@CookingWithClams Sorry. Forgot to put another s on there. I love Rick. Do not like his sports broadcasting brother. I’ll correct my comment. 😬
