- I Reviewed MY SUBSCRIBER'S Restaurant In Singapore!
A young woman approached me in a Singapore restaurant, asking if she could cook for me. Despite my packed schedule, I made time-and I’m so glad I did. What I thought would be a quick street food stop turned into an unforgettable experience, uncovering an incredible story and surprising insights about Japanese culture. Let me take you to Kappou, by Chef Aeron Choo.

My name is Alexander. I’m the co-owner of a ONE Michelin star restaurant, and I’m on a mission - to find inspiration in gastronomy. I love fine dining, good wine and sharing what I know with other people.

I love all your Michelin-starred reviews, but this 90-degree turn is possibly my favorite video of all. The commitment and passion of this multi-faceted chef is presented in chronological order, and then executed on the plate, in the glass, and on the palate. What a heart-warming, inspiring story with some of the best food I've ever seen in any video, combined with your impeccable narration. Chef's hats off to you and Aeron!
100% !
I ❤️ that the whole experience was down to earth. A lot of times fine dining is pompous and intimidating.
Great comment
As someone who has been fortunate enough to visit a lot of the same/similar places as Alex I can say for certain that the story is always what sticks with you, not the food. This video was incredible and I think takes the content in a much better direction.
100%
Chef Choo is insane! The way she goes out of the way to really learn and capture not only the food but even the language. This video has been a great treat.

Alexander, you have an endless amount of content to use... Now that you are including the back story of people like this amazing young chef, you can go on forever with this channel. Michelin starred restaurants are very nice, but watching stories like this may be more inspirational to some of your viewers...
What's supposed to be inspiring about a rich girl living a cartoonishly privileged life?
@@jackgude3969The girl who worked hard to become a excellent chef? You didn’t listen to her backstory clearly…
@@jackgude3969 So becasuse someone came from a wealthy backgound, they cannot have talens, skill and passion? You sound jealous, envious and like a petulant child. Grow up and start doing something with your life.

hey @Alexander The Guest! I'm not sure if you noticed it but around the 3:45 time stamp when Aeron cheered with you, she tipped her glass so it was much lower than yours. That is to show great honor and respect especially considering how low her glass was. She's definitely a big fan haha
Wow, good catch. That is actually heartwarming. Wish her nothing but the best!
Nice catch! Love it
I think out of all the restaurants you have covered, this one I want to visit most. Thank you for accepting chefs invitation
Despite such obvious studiousness and dedication to her craft, Aeron's kitchen presence seems so relaxed. She looks like she has so much time to observe and interact with her guests (when no chef really does). Very impressive!
She is the perfect host
Love the chefs expression at 12:00. All that anticipation to see what you've created being enjoyed. This was easily my favorite episode of all time.
I’d say it’s best episode so far too!
wr
At 12:05 you can see the chef looking at Alexander waiting for a sign of approval it seems, such genuine expressions is what i like seeing from cooking, from both chef and guest. Great video!
Dangg, I can’t even imagine how much work she put into her achievements at such a young age. The food looks amazing, you can really see the passion she has for cooking and drive for continuous improvement in her craft.
I think she got better than Michelin distinction! Alexander stars! haha
"The pessimists will always be right, but the optimists will always be successful." Well goddamn. Nice words Alexander!
Thank you for coming to Singapore and taking a chance on someone, we are a tiny country but we have so many phenomenal people especially in the halls of gastronomy here. i hope that you can savor them more!
2:07 that is a picture of Kikunoi, perhaps Japan's most prestigious restaurant. this lady has been places.
nah kikunoi is definitely not most prestigious.
@@Alsry1They said perhaps.
I've been a subscriber since you had under 1000. This is my favorite video so far. Thank you for making me dream.
wasn't expecting to see a viewer's restaurant review, I hope to see more variety content in the future!! ❤
The great thing is that there is a very limited number of Michelin stars and a plethora of incredible places to eat without the stars
This could be a separate set of series - visiting viewer's restaurants.
I really enjoyed this visit! You have a special gift of communication and empathy, which allows me to feel like I am with you in person. Thank you!
wr
She’s an absolute legend. So much knowledge at such a young age. She’s got a huge career ahead of her! Thank you for showcasing her talents - you are amazing!
This has to be one of the best locations you have visited so far. You can tell she totally adores her craft , with wonderful creations. Thank-you for taking the time to visit her Restaurant. An A+ from me.
The quality never fails to reach the highest possible echelon. Keep up the amazing work and time into these videos!
This is the first time I’ve seen you show clips of you speaking in the restaurant - I love it. It slightly changes the vibe of the video, makes it more human and relatable, definitely do it more when possible.
Of all your amazing videos that I have watched, this may be my favorite. Her passion comes through and is reflected in her brilliance with the food. I think it's the love of what she does. By the way, not once did she make it look like work.
I love all your videos Alexander. But this one seems to be more special. You are always very enthusiastic, but here you are actually falling in love with the atmosphere and the food. I truly enjoyed this video to its fullest. Thank you for providing your viewers with such amazing content. Keep it going and all the best from germany!
I juat needed to comment, this woman and her restaurant are truely amazing.
Singapore represent 🙌
Always great to see my country on this channel. I've never been to any of the places the channel has shown in SG but I plan to sooner or later. Being Singaporean I'm always skeptical of high end of luxury food because there's just so much food options around for your money. Guess I'll have to start trying them soon.
So glad to see your channel to profile a restaurant like this. No idea if it has won awards or michelin stars or whatever. I just want to go to experience the passion and good vibes from such a talented young chef. Singapore is top of my travel list, and this is absolutely on the docket if it's possible to reserve!! Thank you for sharing.
I don't know how many ATG videos I have seen, but this one is my favorite. It is because this video told a story about a chef through food rather than just showing off execution. People resonate with compelling stories above all. This restaurant seams as prestigious as any other of the restaurants covered here regardless of official accolades.
More than any other restaurant I've watched on this channel, this one feels the most like the chef invited you to her home and created an evening to make you feel accepted and special. Loved this video and your insights as always.
“Pessimists will always be right, but optimists will always be successful”. That could actually be the best advice I’ve ever heard.
I've been following your channel since the beginning. This is singlehandedly the most personal and beautiful video you've posted. They're all great, but this one was extra nice.
You're the best! So kind to highlight her skills and space. Bless you Alexander
Just love how you explain the history and quality of the meals. The pairings are the creme de la creme for me.
I would absolutely love to see more hidden gems like this. I understand this was probably a once in a lifetime connection to find this place, but man there are probably so many uncharted chefs like this still out there waiting for someone to find them! Great video. Earned a sub and a like.
I thought I was an absolute machine when it came to work, but watching Chef Aeron work and hearing her story/accomplishments is incredibly inspiring. Can’t wait to see what she does next!!!
I’m so thrilled that you chose to feature this incredibly talented chef. The food looked amazing and I could see how much fun you both had. Full of life and curiosity. Bravo! ❤🎉
That chef is a genius, and seems like a fun person. The restaurant looks gorgeous, the food amazing. This is my favorite restaurant that you've done so far, and I adore saké.
Another superb video, and love you spotlighting a smaller and more up-and-coming location like this!
this impeccable editing and formal review got to be worth a lot in terms of advertising
A lot of the value comes from audience. Aka numbers
because the best advertising comes from the actual consumers
It's only a matter of time before she earns a Michelin star with that kind of attention to detail and work ethic! This might have been my favorite review from you just yet, Alex. I love everything about this - how high quality the people, the work ethic, the culture, and the appreciation for food are. Food truly connects us all.
I agree. I think her knife work and presentation has room for improvement and it will help her.
wow this is incredible! she deserves a Michelin star! The way she started her journey and how she presented the food with all her experience INSANE! Loved how you told and "invited us" like i was sitting next to you, goosebumps all way throughout the video! Excellent!
Been watching for a while and this is my favorite episode yet. Really enjoy the personal connection you share with Chef Aeron.
This has to be one of my favourite visits to watch. What a story, inspiration and presentation.
The sheer diversity of information accumulated within your videos are just spectacular.
How admirable. Working hard and smart, utilizing her talents and just doing what needs to be done. What an inspiring story! I am always so HAPPY when I see someone like that get successful. Whatever the chef achieves - fame, wealth, success, whatever - I am genuinely happy for her, it looks like she deserves it. Thank you for finding the time to review her restaurant.
All your videos are amazing but this one is truly exceptional. I'm very happy you took the time to visit Aeron's restaurant and create this video experience for us!
Alexander, this is by far the most inspiring content you have ever delivered. I had a bad day and somehow this video helps me get through and be inspired again. Please create more of this in the future.
I really liked the small clips of you reacting to the flavours the moment they hit you. It gives an extra dimension to the video.
I didn't get to watch full video yet, but I am so happy to see you made time for the upcoming chef. I am positive your feedback will help her develop further.
PS glad you posted as I missed the Sunday review.
0:55 a small $900 gift, gotta love it
I know right, I looked up the bottle right away
Same here guys haha. Musigny is a Grand Cru Appelation in Bourgogne so I was expecting it to be a big gun but not that much 😂
I have to say that this is probably my favourite video of yours so far. Thoroughly enjoyable in every aspect. Well done, and keep taking chances based in curiosity.
Welcome to Singapore my dear friend! I am glad you enjoyed your stay.
I absolutely love this Chef!! Her mastery and attention to detail is awe inspiring. The certs for Sake and Wine are a side story to her food but she treats them just as highly as her dishes.
I'm definitely visiting her restaurant when I go back to Singapore. I'm so happy she convinced you to visit. This and the Fat Duck episode have to be my favourite. It's so heartwarming and only Alexander can convey this beautiful story to this level
I have watched most of your videos, Alexander! I must admit this has to be one of my favorite videos so far! Keep up the good work, hope to see more such videos! Lots of amazing restaurants without Michelin Stars!!!
100% my favorite video, loved the story, how the food looked, and the vibe you guys had. Amazing!
Wow. Wow. WOW. This was such a great episode. Chef Aeron is exceptional! It looks like you had an amazing time here. Thanks for bringing us along!
Best episode, period. The human element added here creates so much more connectivity to the viewer, you've really hit the niche with this format.
yk, i absolutely love the way he appreciates the cuisine, its apparent how he places his utmost focus in experiencing the dish and the chefs intentions behind it
This video was amazing! The chef and atmosphere of this restaurant is amazing. I really like how you seem to enjoy yourself so much here. As someone who’s very experienced with high-end restaurants, your joy must have been so welcome for the chef and her staff. My favorite video to date !
WHo needs michelin when you have these amazing subscribers!!! MORE OF THAT PLEASE!!!
went to this restaurant 2 years back during the summer. was an amazing experience, can't believe you stumbled upon it!
Chef Aeron Choo is a beautiful human, wow. She radiates passion and clearly has fun doing what she does. She even has a few drinks and starts to play around in the kitchen, all while still delivering on amazing food. If I'm ever in Singapore, I'll have to visit.
This was a very refreshing video. Though still taking place in a high end restaurant, the deep dive into the background of the chef added a personal touch to the video that was very pleasant to watch. With this content, you’ll always get my view and like
A truly detailed and worthy review of Kappou. If not for you, I wouldn't had known chef Aeron at this level and that has made me interested in the food that she conceptualizes. On the hind side, I hope you also gave her constructive critique in any areas to improve on :)
Love this. I think interspersing a few of these gems in between the Michelin reviews will elevate your content even more.
this will be such a great series, reviewing such lower key chefs across the globe.
man i love these type of women. she has made a name for herself and really stood out! she's a real idol for young women
I'd like to see more content like this. I feel a genuine sense of joyfulness and contentment.
This is probably one of the loveliest videos on your channel, Alexander! I love to hear more about the chef’s backstory in future videos!
I feel like this could be the beginning of something much, much bigger and more impactful for Alexander which is shedding light on younger restauranteurs and restaurants that haven’t quite made it into the Michelin spotlight. The Alexander Guide!
I AM HOOKED! Your videos are so thorough and packed with information. Your passion and professionalism is inspiring.
thanks for taking the time to honor this simple request
an interesting video like this is another reminder of why i love this channel so much
What a brilliant chef! I'm happy that you both met eachother.😊
"you need to start with curiosity rather than being interested" that is one of my hold lines when i starting my career, thank you so much
This looks like genuinely one of the best dinner experiences you could have, period. Excellent job Chef Choo!
The fact that such an amazingly talented cook is a fan of your videos is just so wonderful.
Absolutely incredible!
This was one of my favorites. What an incredible experience and a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing this
A wonderful visit with great backstory throughout. Thank you for venturing beyond Michelin and Top 50 circuit. Kappou will make the list, but better to know it and Chef before. Please keep on exploring gems like these.
So cool they got Alex to get a full review of her restaurant. That’s awesome. This is great. Off the cuff content.
I adored what you said at the end. It was something I needed to hear.
I have watched almost every episode Alexander; this was my favorite. Thank you for your channel and a Happy Holiday season to you & yours...cheers!
I enjoyed this Episode the most so far. Some true words spoken at the end. Thank you for this!
As a Singaporean, I would love Alex to try our local food and restaurants that offer local food. U should try the restaurant, Candlenut. It offers local Peranakan cuisine and highly recommended. U won't be disappointed.
Another of your absolute masterpieces!I feel blessed by this episode. Big THANK YOU!!
One of your best if not your very best to date. Thank you for sharing and allowing your viewers to live vicariously through your journey. Merry Christmas 🎄
Again and again I am impressed by the attention to detail. I love how much of a turn this video takes and such a complimentary pleasant video to watch. Possibly my favorite, thank you for your time and commitment to making your subscribers happy! I love you and I will be hopefully taking a seat at your restaurant! But I am quite young but it will be a goal of mine, love you!
Of all the fancy restaurants you have featured on this channel, I think this one had the best vibe. Exchanging wine with the other guests and having such a close and spontaneous contact with the chef is not something you would normally expect. I hope this video brings it closer to a much deserved Michelin star[s].
Your love of people and desire for their success balanced with honest reviews and insights makes this channel a stand out and a joy to watch.
I love Singaporean Omakase compared to most Japanese Omakase are traditional as in the atmosphere is reserved, the staff, music and ambiance is reserved. The Menu hasn't changed in 3 years. So once you eat it, there is no excitement to go a second time as it's all the same, all predictable.
However Singaporean Omakse is young, the music is pop, they will drink and make jokes with you, give you free drinks too, they care about the experience and the fun you have a lot. It really reflects the young metropolitan vibe of Singapore.
One of your best videos Alex! These kinds of lesser known inspirational stories told in your presentation style are really a treat and something you definitely should leverage for your channel.
I think this lady just out-worked most of the chefs I've watched and read about so far at this age. What a machine!
Love it, the best episode so far! I’ve found that while good food & wine are great, it’s the people that really elevate the experience.
Thank you for sharing this. A fantastic story of perseverance and determination. Love it.
When someone invites you to their restaurant and they serve you food that looks so beautiful and from what you are saying is so good it just makes me want to visit this restaurant if i am ever in Singapore. Thank you Alexander for showing off all of these amazing restaurants
Makes me smile knowing the chefing industry has such incredible chefs at such young ages. Also makes me smile knowing how this video came to be! I hope you do this more Alexander! bloody awesome!
The best episode so far!! Really enjoy it! Nice of you to give her a chance.
I want to eat here. Chef Choo is obviously passionate about her cooking and the experience just looks flat out fun. No stuffiness here, but the food looked to be incredible. This place looks like it deserves a place in the Michelin Guide.
Many kudos to Chef Choo. She is clearly a multifaceted person of many talents whose baseline is excellence.
Thank you for accepting her invitation and sharing your experience with us. It was a pleasure.
More of this! I enjoyed this video the most. A lot more character and supporting hidden talents! Thank you 🙏
