2023 Porsche 911 (992) GT3 review: the best supercar you probably can't buy

  • It's the bargain supercar of the decade, so why aren't we all driving one? Simple: you weren't invited.
    That's annoying, because you're missing out on something truly special here. Sure, it's an exercise in marginal gains here. A 510hp output from the newly improved 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six is only 10hp more than the 991.2 GT3, for instance, but under the skin are bits and pieces from the current GT3 Cup car and better area. It's another smash hit from Porsche, but is it enough for you to start buying Panameras and Taycans in the hope Porsche will give you an allocation? Let's find out!

    Really intrigued by the mixed experiences of GT3 ownership in this thread! From the magic of driving a manual GT3 to the challenges of the allotment process, it's clear that the passion for Porsche runs deep. As for the manual vs. PDK debate, it seems like both have their merits. Cheers to everyone who's managed to get their hands on one, and for those waiting - may the Porsche gods be in your favor! 👍🚗

    In US the flipping is out of the question because dealers sell new cars with a huge markup. Once you pay taxes you're already upside down and there is no way to make a profit on that turkey.

    Very good review. I almost at 10k mi on my gt3 and absolutely love it. It’s a one and only manual car capable of lapping NR in sub 7 . I also have 718 spyder and It’s great alternative to gt3 (if you can not get it) not the same , gt3 is just magical

      Thanks very much! Only had a couple of days with the car but always craving more. I've driven 718 GT4, so familiar with the underpinnings of the Spyder. Great two car garage!

      Interesting. I prefer Spyder over GT3. They are both magnificent.

      @@camtaitThe Spyder has a far better suspension setup for the road than GT4 if you ever get drive them back to back

      @@billnorblat4047I have my spyder dialed in very nice (HRE light weight wheels, Kline inconel exhaust, ceramic brakes) I did aggressive alignment and it’s very good on a back roads , but GT3 just better , more aggressive, responsive and sharp. I guess on the sunny warm day on the chill drive I take spyder and if need to clear my head I take GT3 and just go !!!!

    Your review was spot on about buys one of these but it feels like Porsche on one hand trying to stop people flipping cars and on the other taking part in this practise themselves!! Clearly these cars are coming from somewhere and were originally supplied to as you said dedicated Porsche fans and not people looking to make a quick buck??

    Was very straighforward for me, i went into the dealer showroom. Ask to speak to a sale persons, ordered a GT3, paid, delivered. No bullshit mark-uk, lists, or any thing else.

    You cannot get allocations for the GT4 or Spyder since June. Porsche is only making the GT4RS and Spyder RS now.

    Great review. Thank you. I have one on order with Porshe Swindon who say it's landing about Cristmas time 2023. I've ticked the PDK. The spec gets locked in on 9th October. Hearing you say the manual is so good I'm wondering whether to change to the stick shift. Oh dear what a dilemma. Thanks, Simon

    • @iOSAT
      @iOSAT ปีที่แล้ว

      Change it, if for anything the resale value. Terrible reason, I know, but with the looming electrification coming in 2025, the 992 GT3 will likely end up being extraordinarily sought after by “purists” and a key point will be the manual. And don’t forget the LWBS; the same ones who will pay a 30% used markup for a manual won’t even consider a GT3 with “sofas” - I’ll just be enjoying my cozy, ventilated, heated seats in my Turbo S because I’m not LARPing as a Porsche Cup driver every time I leave the house in my daily.

    • @Greg-SD-ElecEng
      @Greg-SD-ElecEng ปีที่แล้ว

      @@iOSAT Thanks. I mentioned swapping to manual with Porsche Swindon particularly after seeing Sam on Seen Through Glass's vid about this. Swindon defo said I should stick with PDK saying that lots of folk wish they'd spec'd PDK after driving their stick shifts. Dunno yet but I'm not grown up enough it seems to make this decsion on my own but I'll ponder this leading up to the shut off date. Either will be absolutely fantastic afterall. I too enjoy those ventilated seats in my Turbo S. It's be plain wrong for both 911's to be PDK surely. I'm also quite thick and don't know what LWBS means, sorry.

  • @user-zx1ir7jt4c

    Yeah you probably can't buy one because you probably can't afford one at the insanely inflated prices but they are certainly available, used ones anyway. There are nice used Gt3s out there. I would never even consider trying to get a new one. The allotment process is ridiculous. Reminds me an awful lot of what happened to Rolex sports watches. I used to enjoy that hobby, not anymore. Once the flippers take over a market, it's over!

    What is the motivation for Porsche not to make sufficient GT3s to satisfy demand at MSRP? It doesn’t add up.

      As I understand it there are quotas for milage and emissions on automakers now- the gt3 as a NA engine is at the pointy end of lousy milage and emissions- I have a manual 991.2 gt3 but my daily driver is a Subaru STI- which is a discontinued car due to this emissions mandate problem setup.
      Personally I believe that owning a gt3 with the NA and manual, like the STI, will be a massive collector car when government pressure finally squeezes them out of production as they did to the STI

    How can Porsche be trying to stop flipping when most of the pre-owned delivery mileage cars are being sold by... Porsche main dealers, making flip money for their "selected customers".
