Arabs not only enslaved sub Saharan Africans before Europeans, they did it for far longer. In fact it was pressure from European nations that eventually got the arabs to curtail their slave trade. As you point out the region is still rife with indentured servitude which is just modern day slavery.

You can look it up but Lee Peterson May Have Over Exaggerated a bit but 3775 “Black” people owned 12,760 Black Slaves according to the US Census of 1830! Also 3 American Indian Tribes the Cherokee, Choctaw and the Creek owned 6392 Black Slaves, which is a good portion of their tribe’s population!
