The Process

The goal will be to design a restaurant specials menu card for a BBQ joint.
I'll be using Illustrator CC for the initial restaurant design concept, content layout, and graphics planning. Photoshop CC will be used for food design imagery and final layout, plus the menu mockup.

@@coolionesy even my team used to do it! Especially when we won a big cricket tournament our coach took us to a very exotique and special BBQ restaurant. The food was 🧿 charming.

I love all of your videos but I just love these more where you kind of let us in on your thought process while you're doing it, and letting us know the reason behind why you did what you did i.e. putting shadows, choosing fonts, etc. As a learner, it makes me understand it easier and remember it.

I'm not so sure... personally I will lose appetite seeing small lamb as example. In same time I know what kind of meat it is, but emotions will refuse to kill small lamb and serve it. And I'm not a vegan :)
Designing a menu, this should be taken in mind.

@@maariuxI think it depends on your cultural context. I'm a Southerner, and it's quite common around here for restaurants to emphasize the animal that the meat comes from in the advertising - I suppose as an implication of freshness, although we possibly take it to a comical extent with some mom-and-pop barbecue restaurants, for example, having smiling pigs in chef's hats as their logos 😂 we are strange folk

I'm not a designer. I can't use Photoshop to save my life. I have no idea why TH-cam decided to recommend me your channel. But I watched one of your videos, then another, then a lot, and I subscribed. I have no plans to learn design, but I do plan to keep watching your videos. I find your description of the creative process very helpful and entertaining, and I like the final results (as an end user).
At first I was like: "What is this guy doing, this looks really bad"
But as the video progressed I got more and more impressed.
The end result is amazing!
Great front design! But the back had some issues in my opinion i own a resturant and im no designer but specifying that the numbers below are currency is very important! Also listing the portion size (ex. 300g, 250g ect.) is very helpful to determine how large the servings are! Just a tip for menu desingers out there

I've noticed a lot of food photography and cinematography has the food which is "too big" to be contained in the frame. Don't know if menu covers use the same principle. But yours came out great.
Thank you! I think food is generally shown as large as possible so people can see the fine details (which is why many products have disclaimers saying the product shown on the package is "enlarged to show detail"). It also might be to subconsciously make people think they are getting larger portion sizes.

it's funny, I often think halfway through the process "oh, no that doesn't work. no way"... like I wasn't feeling the repeating blocks of text. But then at the end, when all the other stuff comes together, and the execution is so nice, it looks great.

Im definitely not a pro on this and have just started but i love your videos and they are very informative and educational while also entertaining, but I feel like if you were going to be simplistic on the back side you should carry some of that over to the front.

Not a fan of slamming a giant rack of ribs over the whole front. I loved the text before you made it into a background. Removing the dollar signs is a bit odd too ngl.
