Agree with you and Mr Ricardo Botti below that you need to keep engagement when singing softly. Have read many singers' comments that it's easier to sing loudly than to sing softly -especially unmiked, I suspect. Really gives your breath control a workout but it can't help but improve your singing throughout the range. Good video.

Practicing softer singer with a quieter volume and balanced air and compression has really helped my overall singing between mixed and head voice

I think singing softly ( "without breathy sound") takes a lot , LOT of engagement. You have to be 100% on top of your engagement game. I mean you're always engaged when you sing, but I need to be even more mindful of my engagement when singing soflty. Soft-breathy singing is not an option. Keeping vocal cord closure sounds so nice when you go into pianissimos. But boy you need to be careful.

Hi Jeff, Thank you! Would you please elaborate on the difference between the 'NG' exercise, that you sometimes recommend for exploring various placements, and the 'humming' excercise, which from my point of view checks the same boxes, that is basically bypassing an oral cavity. Also, is my whole face supposed to vibrate while humming? I can choose either way by adjusting my soft pallete, but I feel like maybe we are meant to vibrate during the excercise. It's just that then I sneeze all around the place. 😅 Thank you. All the best, MJ
