This is amazing! Thank you for making this video. She literally invented her own technique and I think it’s a completely new style cause I never ever hear any singer who sang like her before. For me, it felt like she’s using a low chest voice, with some vocal fry at some parts, that’s why some people called it as “whisper-sing”. I actually learned at succeeded to mimic her style and I had to say it’s REALLY hard and so exhausting. It requires a very skilled vocal and breath control, Dresecendo-Crescendo something mostly only choir kids know (Billie was in choir), otherwise it would be accidentally too loud, led to voice cracks, or it’s too low, and running out of breath that makes your voice doesn’t come out in some notes. You can clearly hear and compare how different Billie singing technique from her older song. I think my future and No Time to Die is the songs of her that fully used this technique.

Yeah whisper-y singing like Billie's is usually compressed quite a lot to really bring out the voice. The choice of mic is also quite important. She is using a condenser microphone, which pick up super quiet sounds well.

Singing softly is completely different. Well, I don't pull chest voice, for one thing. I switch WAY earlier. Cool to do. But I did hurt my voice years ago. Back when singing meant SHOUTING REALLY LOUD!! Didn't have the support needed to sing softly. Sounds dumb, but I hurt my voice trying to sing in choir without being loud. Had horrible technique. Wasn't connected properly. So yeah, singing soflty IS very effective and CAN be difficult.

I'm not at all a fan of hers. But this 'soft' approach is intriguing, simply as a vocalist. It seems to me its an over-enunciated dissection of letters. Vowels in particular, of course.
There's obviously chorus added to her mic which is turned up to 11...
I've always been in the camp that vibrato should not be forced. Rather, happen naturally due to complete relaxation.

Billie and her brother are not my cup of tea but I do appreciate that they are at least different than all the other stuff you hear in pop music today. Their popularity is a sign that people are desperate for something different. At the risk of sounding like the "get off my lawn" guy, almost any live performance I've seen of her, I can't understand a word she is singing.
