Even when they rehearse in their home studio by themselves, they have said that they perform like it is live and they have a full mirror on the wall in front of them, so they can see themselves and work on their stage presence.
The bass in this song is a deep groove. Great playing by Ale.
Ale sings "Hunter" in their "Quarantine Concert", "Red Hands Never Fade", in a few concerts, and a very young Ale sings "River's Soul" at Aqua Fria. Aqua Fria was her first time singing lead in public.
Ale's lower-ranged vocals really stand out in this live session, and I appreciate that!
I thinks it's actually really peak riff writing if you can write a riff that sounds similar to other riffs but nobody can tell you what they are. Instantly pulls you in and hooks your ear.
I go to shows myself because in my experience, if an “opportunity” comes up with a band, there’s a better chance you can be invited by yourself than a whole group. I’ve had some amazing opportunities because I was by myself. Hoping my luck continues at my first TW concert in October
I love Pau's smiling at Ale early on in the video. I think you might have missed that. You were looking away from your screen. They connect with each other many times and in many ways when they play live. And they have said on several occasions that this is one of the fun songs to play. In the past, they have used it as an opener for their live shows. I think it is number 2 in their current set list.
Ale hates singing lead, despite having a very nice voice. She does background vocals and harmonies. She has a deeper voice but also has a falsetto in some songs. It might be the contrast that usually happens between the note you're playing on the bass and the lead vocal note in the song's melody that usually carries the lyric in the song. I used to be in a band and played bass guitar. I sang lead vocals on some songs but it was hard to do it in some songs for this reason. I know people think she's shy and she does opt to allow Pau and Dany to do the talking for the band. And maybe that's part of it, but there have been situations where Dany is ill and needs to rest her voice. She has taken on the lead vocals live on selected songs and did a highly competent job.

Here's a cool, brief story about this song for ya . . .
In the "Mayday In The Making" documentary, their ERROR album producer, David Bendeth mentioned that, during the preproduction sessions (when a band plays songs they plan to record for a producer) prior to the start of recording, he talked to the girls about a song he didn't like. That song he didn't mention by name in the documentary just happens to be THIS ONE; "Z"! He said: "I had three girls right up in my face!"
I found this out because, last year, I got to chat with him through his Facebook page. I took the chance and asked him which song he was talking about in the documentary, and I told him I would understand if he didn't want to reveal which song it was. But, to my surprise, he had no problem telling me!
And actually, he said that at the time, he didn't care for the song "Amour" either, but he loves both songs now.
It's hard to know why he didn't like the song. We also don't know what changes they made to the song after they talked to Bendeth. I imagine that if he initially didn't like it and they ended up recording it, it's because they made some changes or arrangements. Regardless of all that, this is the first song I heard from The Warning about 2 months ago, then Dust to Dust, and then Animosity... and here I am listening to them daily without stopping since then.
Dany is a very rhythmic singer. Her delivery is sycopated to fit with Ale and Pau. They are all on the same page rhythmically and have the skill and sister Magic to pull it off. That's why they found tight in almost every live performance.
Quinn is such a powerhouse vocalist, and often it gets overlooked, but she's also a powerhouse guitarist. If you watch their live video for Daughters Of Witches, you'll see her guitar signed by Dany, Pau and Ale. She taught herself guitar by learning Dany's parts from Queen Of The Murder Scene, before starting formal lessons.

2. the title of this song, "Z", is short for "GenZ" or "Generation Z"... they thought it to be "too much" so they shortened it to just "Z"...

These live sessions are great for separating things, voices especially. Ale doesn't want to sing lead. She's said it many times. But she's fine with it in limited bits when required. It's been a long running topic. Kudos for the giveaway. I won't make it there but hope to be in Cleveland. Thanks.

I recall an interview where Dany and Pau said that Ale is gifted with perfect pitch. Thus, her backing vocals are always in tune, often blended in so well we can’t even hear them stand out.
Hey Pentagenarian, you asked if there was a video with Ale singing. Yes, there are a few. Ale has been asked to sing a few times, usually when Dany's not feeling well. I've heard her sign Hunter and River's Soul. Her first-time singing lead happened at a venue called Agua Fria several years ago, when she sang River's Soul. She looked a little nervous at the start but picked up confidence as she sang. If I remember my timeline correctly, Dany, Pau and Ale had finished up with the recording of the 'Error' album. They were going to be releasing several of the songs as an EP, titled 'Mayday'. They were rehearsing the songs, getting ready to potentially play them in live shows, which were getting postponed again and again, due to the pandemic. They ended up releasing some of these live recordings of those rehearsals, in a lead up to the release of the EP.

Unfortunately it is so rare that she sings that there are only Fan shot videos so the sound quality is not the best. If you are at a The Warning concert and Ale sings a song thats like the holy grail to all TWA members 🙂
If you remember "Choke" at the Teatro Metropolitan concert, Ale sang a couple lead lines. Afaik that's the only pro shot video of her singing lead. There are no designated songs yet that Ale sings lead. She has done it occasionally in concert, but only cell phone video available. "Hunter" is one of the songs she has sung. She prefers just to do backing vocals.
Don't remember if we told you during the Teatro concert stream, but this song is called "Z" in reference to them being Generation Z. It's a warning to their generation about the dangers of social media.
There is a video available of Ale singing lead for their song called " Hunter " when the girls opened up for the band called Stryper !

Ale sings lead when she has to. Usually to cover when Dany is sick. She sang one or two songs at the Mercury Lounge when Jason Flom from Lava records was in the audience.
I love how Ale sings lead on the second chorus with backing harmonies from Pau as Dany steps away from the microphone. If you close your eyes, you would think it was Dany singing the second chorus!

They recorded four songs in this studio. And I love them all of course because you can hear the instruments very very well.
I love these live sessions. I would have loved to been in that room. Ale can sing when she wants to, and her bass keeps this song bouncing from start to finish. Very cool of you to give tickets away for TW and other bands.

During the intro and the verses, Ale is using her right thumb and index finger to pluck octaves on the E and A strings. Originally, the bass part was double-tracked, but she wanted to play something with the same impact live. She discusses this elsewhere. She watches her right hand here, so this may be the maiden voyage of the technique for her. It may be why Pau smiles at her. She's much more at ease with it by the time the Teatro Metropolitan is shot. She does it as she swaggers onstage there. How many bass players do this? JPJ does it in Whole Lotta Love and RG does it in Highway Star, but they both use picks to do it, so Ale is the only one I've ever encountered that does it her way. I love how clear her bass is here.

@@scottinokc I bought tickets for the last show of the Evanescence/Halestorm/Warning tour in October in London, ON. I'm hoping to see something exceptional like Narcisista with Arejay playing drums or maybe Dany singing with Amy and Lzzy. Then they announced the Toronto headline show the very next day, so I bought tickets for that, too. And now that's been upgraded to a bigger room which has also sold out. The room Ale sang in was 600 capacity. The latest room is 1500. And S!CK is finally on local radio. What a change in a year! I hope you see Ale sing, too.
@@rexwave4624 I have tickets to the Toronto show too. As it stands now, that will be my sixth and final The Warning show of the year. Two in the UK, three in the US, and one in Canada. The two UK shows were amazing. With just 600 & 1000 capacity, it was very up close & personal both nights. I'm glad I'm getting to see them so much on this tour, I can't envision them playing the smaller venues much longer.

Ale has already stated on several occasions that she doesn't like to be lead singer. Obviously she can cover Dany at certain times with certain songs, and do it very well, but in my opinion I think she doesn't feel comfortable being the center of attention.
But it's not like she has outright said “never ever will I ever sing a song as the lead”, so let's not lose hope 😁😁
Ale was asked once in a live q&a if she would ever record a song as the lead vocalist and she quickly and unequivocally answered "No".

But what you think at 17 is not always what you think at 30, and "never" or "always" are very long periods. As I say, I don't lose hope.
@@Superbio I keep hoping that as Ale sees more of the world as The Warning tours, and meets more bands/artists that she may feel more comfortable with being the center of attention as she sings live. And/or that she composes a song that she demands to sing herself, much like Dany with the "melon" song...
