I was a nightime pump attendent at Scratchwood services M1 in 1969. A Rolls Royce drew in with chaufer, and about 6 dolly birds inside. Owner got out, said fill it up and had a wander to the bogs. Came back said all ok, then gave me £50 quid tip !!. All came from Soho all coked up. I said please come again ?. This series reminds me of my mispent youth. Thanks. Dave
Peter Barkworth was for decades a regular character actor on UK television, finally ending up playing the lead in 'Telford's Change.' He never missed a beat with his style of acting. Great to see this drama on YT !
I look forward to the next episode. Thanks a million for uploading this great murder mystery. Poor David was such a nice man, and his wife is a monster. I'm sure the nice Inspector will find the guilty people
Peter Barkworth another great actor, played Stanley Baldwin in The Wilderness Years with Robert Hardy as Churchill and Eric Porter as Neville Chambrlain.
I love a good Francis Durbridge thriller. It's such a pity that so many of the Paul Temple episodes only exist with their German audio, the bulk of the English copies having been wiped by the BBC in the mid-70's. Paul Temple captures that wonderful transition period from the 60's into the 1970's.
This was a very pleasant surprise. Great quality picture and sound and great acting. I look forward to the next 2 installments. It had a tales of the unexpected vibe about it. I was half expecting the naked dancing lady on the end credits.
My word. Melissa Stribling starred in the classic Dracula 1958. Miss Dunham later appeared in the double Jason King correctly entitled "All that Glisters", and later in Thriller with John Carson. Beth Morris, need I say?
I love these Francis Durbridge thrillers, very evocative of the period. Where Judy Clayton was picked up looks very much like the A30 road out of Hartley Wintney towards Blackbushe near where I now live, can anyone confirm ?
Very intriguing though Evelyn Walker seems a little old for Roy Norton. It’s not short of characters - I had to right them all down to keep track of who was who, who’s having affairs, and who is married to who. Just glad Dr Who isn’t in it too!
@ Thanks for that, I did google the Rolls, needless to say it didn’t come up. I guess that A88 plate must be worth quite a bit. Many years ago I worked for a company that owned A1.
I think the producers or TH-cam would soon stop that. It was one of the most costly tv series ever and no doubt they want to recoup money through DVD and Blu Ray sales.
39:29 But does that mean that when David Walker picked up Judy Clayton in his car, that they already knew each other? And that she knew Andy Mason wasn't his real name?
I paused the video just as they were leaving the garage and decided to guess what would happen next. My guess is that the car isn’t there; I’m also expecting to be wrong because you can depend on Mr. Durbridge on not being obvious. 🤞
On my phone it appears just below episode 1, and 3 is below episode 2. If they are not there search for The Passenger episode 2 and it should be there.
wether its because i was going through puberty in 1970 but i find women of this era incredibly sexy! great mystery! a hint of morse in barkworths classical music loving crossword fan taciturn but sexy detective .also great memories of when british cars were great as door hinges creak on new models electric windows on rolls royces make more noise than the engine as they grate away!
I have to say on the rare occasions I've had the car working, the hydraulic windows in my always-broken Grosser Mercedes 600 emit zero noise. Apparently they wanted to do better than Rolls Royce and evidently succeeded !
@mikekemp9877 Correct, there is a belt driven hydraulic pump producing hydraulic power and a hydraulic accumulator storing pressure, so several uses are still possible with the engine off. Window and glass division lifters, seat adjustment, sun roof, boot lid, fresh air flap, and on early cars door final closure. Components are eye wateringly expensive to fix.
I found that pretty good. Notice the absence of music overlaying the action. What a relief!

Fantastic!! Thanks for sharing
How drugs relieve people of their cash, pt. 2,854
Thanks for the upload. Very good series
Crikey😊
Women. Whores 500 years ago, whores 50 years ago, whores today.
The lovely Peter Barkworth always worth watching x thank you
I needed a good mystery and this ticked all the boxes. Thank you.
Oh, and the intriguing Peter Barkworth. How lovely!
Thank you for bringing these excellent programmes to our notice. Really enjoyable 😊
Peter Barkworth was for decades a regular character actor on UK television, finally ending up playing the lead in 'Telford's Change.' He never missed a beat with his style of acting. Great to see this drama on YT !
Can’t thank you enough for the lovely tv gems… please keep them coming… 😊
Excellent viewing. Recognised a few of those actors. I knew it'd be good with Peter Barkworth starring. I look forward to Part 2!
I am hooked! Thank you. Loving the clothes, hair styles and cars.... a trip down memory lane.
This is great! Lots of twists, can't tell where it's going. Thanks for the upload.
First episode has me hooked. 👍👍👍
this was so good, thank you
Peter Barkworth a class act .
Miss old school gents like him. When I was a kid in the 70s there still seemed plenty of them around, now they're all gone.
Nice to watch. There was a great style in that period.
Lack of tats, piercings and purple hair. Plus healthy BMIs all around. What a contrast to today

I found these earlier: th-cam.com/video/O5yBDbHejp4/w-d-xo.html
IMHO the radio Paul Temple series are better than what survives on TV.
Paul Temple is very fine in the radio versions on BBC 4xtra.
If you search the internet there is a website which features all the radio versions available & an interview with Peter Coke.
Look how good the roads were, no potholes! Better days, how much further can this country sink?
Thank you!
That Jag was a beauty to behold
Daimler if you look closely at the grill.
It's a Rolls Royce.
The Rolls was the car she hitched a ride in. The driving instructor drove.
All these need to be remastered.
This looks good. I liked Peter Barkworth in Late Starter and The Price both 1985.
Love Francis Durbridge and Peter Barkworth! Thank you.
"That'll be ten new pence, sir." for a tomato juice. Oh, lol. Where do the years go 🙃
Oh, I remember when a gallon of mead was half a groat...
This was a very pleasant surprise. Great quality picture and sound and great acting. I look forward to the next 2 installments. It had a tales of the unexpected vibe about it. I was half expecting the naked dancing lady on the end credits.
The naked dancing lady in tales of the unexpected - that was Joanna Lumley
Looking forward to this one. Many thanks. 😊
Good listen! No distracting music esp. when used for atmosphere rather than allowing the story to unfold.
Excellent, thank you.
Thank you😊
You’re digging up some good suspense series.
I never saw any of them when first aired as either I was too young or up the pub most nights.
Thank you🌹
Is that Mr. Wilks from Emmerdale Farm 😮? It blimmin' is you know!😅
"Nay nay Mr Wilkes" [Amos Brearly]. I haven't watched the TV in over 20 years, but as soon as I saw him, that memory came flooding back.
Superb acting.
Not come across this before, looking forward to watching later. I see people are getting quite excited by the presence of Mr Wilks! 😆
Me too recognising Mr Wilkes and square ice cream cornets 🎉
@ Amos "Nay, nay Mr Wilks!"
My word. Melissa Stribling starred in the classic Dracula 1958.
Miss Dunham later appeared in the double Jason King correctly entitled "All that Glisters", and later in Thriller with John Carson. Beth Morris, need I say?
Thanks ,great!
It's Mr Wilks 😅
That is the suavest, smoothest driving instructor I've ever seen
Nice opening credits theme music.
Brilliant
Mr. Wilks from Emmerdale.
You can actually hear what they're saying
I love these Francis Durbridge thrillers, very evocative of the period. Where Judy Clayton was picked up looks very much like the A30 road out of Hartley Wintney towards Blackbushe near where I now live, can anyone confirm ?
Another Francis Durbridge drama🤩
Mr Wilks from emmerdale when it was good.
Very intriguing though Evelyn Walker
seems a little old for Roy Norton.
It’s not short of characters - I had to right them all down to keep track of who was who, who’s having affairs, and who is married to who. Just glad
Dr Who isn’t in it too!
The drop head Rolls A88. Was burning a lot of oil.
Also Mr Wilkes from Emmerdale farm.
Reg on a Volvo now
@ Thanks for that, I did google the Rolls, needless to say it didn’t come up. I guess that A88 plate must be worth quite a bit. Many years ago I worked for a company that owned A1.
The young lady at about seven minutes 50 certainly knows how to eat her ice cream😮😊🤔😉
WOW
great ending
I don't think it is finished yet.
Please upload that classic series The Persuaders!!🙂
I think the producers or TH-cam would soon stop that. It was one of the most costly tv series ever and no doubt they want to recoup money through DVD and Blu Ray sales.
39:29 But does that mean that when David Walker picked up Judy Clayton in his car, that they already knew each other? And that she knew Andy Mason wasn't his real name?
Obviously setup and obviously why, NY telex
I paused the video just as they were leaving the garage and decided to guess what would happen next. My guess is that the car isn’t there; I’m also expecting to be wrong because you can depend on Mr. Durbridge on not being obvious. 🤞
The sitting room door with no lock @25.00🎉😂😂😂
The number of adverts make this impossible to watch 👎
I almost gave up due to the frequent ad breaks. Fortunately you can tap on most of them after about 3 seconds to get back to the drama.
Great! More Francis Durbridge, thanks.
How many were originally aired?
And how many are still in existence?
Too much music...at first.
But getting interesting. ...🤨
Good.
10 new pence :)
What is this a reference to, for us foreigners 🇨🇦
@Tesserae Decimal currency had just been finalised here in the UK in '71.
When’s the next episode available?
All three episodes are there.
MR WILKS....EMMERDALE FARM!!!
Judy's dead strangled.
Nobody bats and eyelid.
Like Judy's had a cup a tea !
Typical Durbridge 😂
Where the next episode? 🤷🏾♂️
On my phone it appears just below episode 1, and 3 is below episode 2. If they are not there search for The Passenger episode 2 and it should be there.
some emerson lake and palmer sounds like.😮

@@philhealey4443 i believe its due to using hydraulics rather than electric motors.

Nice one.
💜
Does he meet Maria Schneider?
Is this story finished or will it continue in the next episode?
Not sure but I think there’s three episodes
@@malcolmwhite6588 thank you.
3 episodes.
I still find Peter Barkworth creepy because of the traitor he played in Where Eagles Dare, and the traitor he played in Secret Army...
Liked him in Manhunt as Vincent in the French resistance though
Great and thanks for loading it, but Oy the smoking in the office, yuk.
joanna dunham of van der valk fame.
Cardboard productions..
Thank you!
The young lady at about seven minutes 50 certainly knows how to eat her ice cream😮😊🤔😉
7:40. Very nice!
