I can remember a night on March 14, 1982 in Indianapolis Indiana when I turned 14. I saw U2 open up for the J. Geils Band. I went there to see J. Geils. After U2 played I asked my sister, who took me for my birthday, if we could leave. I had never seen anything like it. I was hooked. Now I will be 40 soon and I am still as deep of fan of U2 as I was the first time I saw them. This clip reminds me of that day.
What a great video, and who would have thought... Great to see U2 stripped of all the bollocks that surround them now, back to when it only came down to great music... And boy what great music it was...
How wonderful! They are ALL so young - as was I back then. . .:) 21 years old. And I love that Tom said "we will be hearing from you for years to come" - it's 26 years later and they are still rockin'! I loved watching Tom Snyder - he was a one of kind:) Thank you Tom for hours of entertainment and education over the years:)
Wow this is a trip for me cause I saw this performance when it happened that morning cause Tom came on late at night before Letterman was ever on TV. I'm a lucky guy that I have witnessed some of U2 greatest performances on TV.
man, I was young when this came on. And I know my parents didn't know I was up this late, watching it. I could have swore they played Gloria. Obviously not. Thanks for the flashback. One of my favorite Tom Synder moments was him vs. Howard Stern. He hated that guy. One of my fav
Great piece of Video! :) Very much enjoyable for true U2 Fans! As I usually say, U2 = GOD´s MUSIC!! Gratings to all U2 Maniacs out there, from Porto, Portugal
Oh man, I really really miss the old U2. Boy and October and War and Unforgettable Fire are everything good about rock, stripped down to the basics and done with passion and brilliance and honesty.
This is the cutest video I've ever seen! Bono "Gotta sing to that audience" da da da!! Loool Regarding hair- I don't think Adam needed a pillow in those days;-)
Would like to see a video of Bono watching this video today and record all of his comments on video. That would be cool. 30 years later! I became a fan in Oct of 1982 so this is wild seeing something even before I was a fan!!
Great response to the question at the end, why call the album boy. Just like all the major acts before them, they worked their ass off, built up their audience and eventually reached the level they currently occupy. Unlike some acts, *cough* oasis *cough*, they didn't assume people would automatically see their greatness, but travelled the hard miles to build up their fanbase.
We were all so young then ... seems like a dream instead of reality! (I'm right in the middle of the boys as regards age -- part of why this band has always meant so much to me.)
this is unbelieable man!!! I was a fan of Tom Snyder he was a coolster! Shows it here by having this band which practically no one in America heard of. I would start listening to them about a year later while attend college at SUNY New Paltz.
This makes me think of the 2004 performance of "I Will Follow" on a certain weekend late night show when Bono went into the crowd (and the cast) as well. The two performances show that U2 had "it" in the beginning and still do.
u2 have so much stripped down honesty in their music ,i was 15 then and they sounded so fresh but you could feel the intesity building ,thats what got me hooked this band could take you on a journey a volcanic 1.so easey to see it now ,but then it was so subtle .we needed them they needed us then it rocked¬!!!!!!!!!!
I've always thought "Boy" was a mediocre & raw song which you can expect from a young band but i'm sure the entire U.S. audience could sense this band was destined for greatness. U2 have loved performing in the U.S. since their early days.
.......this is......U2....this is...........pure rock n roll,if only elvis were alive to see them, i can't really even begin to fathom what elvis would do with U2 and U2 with elvis, it would be incredible, elvis said his favorite was roy orbison, and well, speaks for itself..........i think roy did some kind of work with U2 also........if you look up in the dictionary 'rock n roll music' you'll see: U2. U2 is to rock what Brian Wilson is to California. You can't place U2 in a box like most bands
I like Vintage U2 vid's... when The Edge still had hair... but I jest. I've seen them live 5 times (one time it was cheaper to fly to Tampa, FL; my other option was buying scalped tix to one of the sold-out shows in my area - NY) u2 4 ever //m
If you want to find his real hypocrisy, it's in U2 relocating its music-publishing business from Ireland to the Netherlands in order to shelter its songwriting royalties from taxation. Ireland even has low taxes for artists, but that wasn't enough. Considering Bono has traveled around the globe demanding countries to put aside a % for his African causes, that one is indefensible even for me. I understand that it probably wasn't his idea, but he certainly has enough power in the band to stop it

Bono love the way corrects the interviewer when he says Great Britain and bono says Ireland! God bless Paul Hewson and friends!
Bono's voice has grown a lot since 'Boy', but he already had his X-factor then..The fashion and hairstyles are so cute :)
I was in this audience!
sisterfromanotherplanet GREAT!!!
Fantastic!
Lay
Great interview we're seeing the birth of U2. Thank you Tom Snider rest in peace you were one of the best interviewers in the business.
What a great video, and who would have thought... Great to see U2 stripped of all the bollocks that surround them now, back to when it only came down to great music... And boy what great music it was...
Tom was prophetic when he said: "We're going to be hearing a great deal from them...."
Thanks for this oldie!
U2 is now worth Billions....who would have known that talent would just grow from this album onward to stardom.
Bono is still jumping, going into the crowds, electrifying his performance to this day....and The Edge, Larry and Adam are right there with him 💥💥
We were all so young then. Oy. They are beautiful.
Man, I miss Tom Snyder - he knew how to interview people.
Wow this is a trip for me cause I saw this performance when it happened that morning cause Tom came on late at night before Letterman was ever on TV. I'm a lucky guy that I have witnessed some of U2 greatest performances on TV.
Thanks for posting, a must see for real fans!!!!
thnx so muchhhh the best band ever!! VIVA SAN BONO!!!
the best 1st album release of any band they were raw back then
Wow! The guys playing no playback in the tv show... This is a real band! Since the first years. Thanks for vid Larissa.
man, I was young when this came on. And I know my parents didn't know I was up this late, watching it. I could have swore they played Gloria. Obviously not. Thanks for the flashback.

Great piece of Video! :)
Very much enjoyable for true U2 Fans!
As I usually say, U2 = GOD´s MUSIC!!
Gratings to all U2 Maniacs out there, from Porto, Portugal

I am so Happy this is here. Thank goodness. goodness= Larissa Rocha!
Oh man, I really really miss the old U2. Boy and October and War and Unforgettable Fire are everything good about rock, stripped down to the basics and done with passion and brilliance and honesty.
I just love how Edge still plays his Explorer today--it's in the Beautiful Day video.
That was back in the day when singers actually sang live..
Greatest Band of all the times
This is the cutest video I've ever seen!
Bono "Gotta sing to that audience" da da da!! Loool
Regarding hair- I don't think Adam needed a pillow in those days;-)
"We'll be hearing a lot of U2 in the months and years to come." LOL. If only he knew...
And they still kick ass!!!
Thanks for posting this...magical, just magical
That's amazing! Love Boy album! It is great to see that Edge's geniality was there from the very beginning!
early U2 was by far the best
What a riot...definitely a glimpse of what was to come! I mean, any one who can get a Tom Snyder audience on their feet is bound for glory, lol.
This clip is absolutely priceless
wow thats a long time ago!!! thx for posting it nonetheless
Would like to see a video of Bono watching this video today and record all of his comments on video. That would be cool. 30 years later! I became a fan in Oct of 1982 so this is wild seeing something even before I was a fan!!
Wow! The Edge's tone is awesome!
Lol, I also think it. I can't resist this cuteness !!!! ^^

"From what we've heard about these boys, we'll be hearing more of them in the future.." He had no idea how right he was lol
this is unbelieable man!!! I was a fan of Tom Snyder he was a coolster! Shows it here by having this band which practically no one in America heard of. I would start listening to them about a year later while attend college at SUNY New Paltz.
AWESOME! Thanks for the post ;-)
IT'S GOOD! IT'S GOOD!
(chills)
This takes me back... back to a time when the Edge had hair.
this was the performance that turned me on to them all those years ago. Loved when Tom Snyder had bands on.
This makes me think of the 2004 performance of "I Will Follow" on a certain weekend late night show when Bono went into the crowd (and the cast) as well. The two performances show that U2 had "it" in the beginning and still do.
gotta love those dance moves :)
Wow, they sure a lot of energy back then. I don't I've ever seen Edge move around so much! ;-)
The freakiest thing of all is how much Bono's hair makes him look like Geddy Lee circa 1985 or 1987.
u2 have so much stripped down honesty in their music ,i was 15 then and they sounded so fresh but you could feel the intesity building ,thats what got me hooked this band could take you on a journey a volcanic 1.so easey to see it now ,but then it was so subtle .we needed them they needed us then it rocked¬!!!!!!!!!!
great entertainer, now and then. ^^ they are as young as I am now o.O time goes by...
omg that shit kicks some ass
I know! He already had the perfect guitar tone back then, hasn't changed a bit! He still uses that amp onstage too.
que buen video...grande U2!!
we where born on the same year 69...classis stuff from u2 ..like your coment ..chris from scotland..
Bono is gorgeous!
i miss the an cat dubh song....LOVE that!! I gotta find that one!
OK, nice to see such an early vid with somewhat quality sound. (Baseball, baseball...? hmm).
We did hear a great deal of The U2
AWESOME!!!!
the Free tickets Tom Snider audience got U2 Lucky still Tom was fun too watch witter then most at the Time.
Wow, the Edge still sounds the same!
Totally they were so great. Bono would win xfactor they were natural stars and great musicians and clever guys the whole package
Combine the guitar sound from this one and the drums/vocals/bass from the 1984 live in Dortmund version and I could guarantee I'd die a happy man.
Classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Best Dutch band ever 😂
I've always thought "Boy" was a mediocre & raw song which you can expect from a young band but i'm sure the entire U.S. audience could sense this band was destined for greatness. U2 have loved performing in the U.S. since their early days.
How dare they cut Twilight short god damn it!
disgraceful
He was gorgeous then, also!.. yet still he was headed to the greatness such hair, huh? true Irish man!
He's Tom Snyder, arguably one of the more entertaining and interesting interviewers of his time.
Edge when he had hair.....Awesome.
Yeah, I also would do it with Larry because he freaks me out with this huge kind of cuteness :D
OMG Edge was so amazingly cute!!! I swear if I were there, I would squeeze him too much and would steal many kisses :D

Gibson Explorer, Memory Man Echo, and a Vox AC 30. Nothing else!
u2 is the best rock band ever ! i like all songs
Larry was so little
Thanx^^
U2 are bigger than the Beatles. Think about it. U2 has been together and making great music for almost thirty years.
Tom Snyder is my hero.
I can't help but just laugh at Adam's hairdo! XD
.......this is......U2....this is...........pure rock n roll,if only elvis were alive to see them, i can't really even begin to fathom what elvis would do with U2 and U2 with elvis, it would be incredible, elvis said his favorite was roy orbison, and well, speaks for itself..........i think roy did some kind of work with U2 also........if you look up in the dictionary 'rock n roll music' you'll see: U2. Beatful música TOTALIT
this was their sullivan show
Dan Ackroyd had Snyder nailed.
Historic interview adn TV appearance, indeed.
U2's run through Achtung Baby was phenomenal. Their post '92 must was not in the same league.
Este video hoy hace 32 años
It cracks me up that they mention LUBBOCK TEXAS up there with DUBLIN IRELAND. I mean is he crazy??? lol
when they were young they looked so funny because they were young :))))
any chance anyone got the celebration video
Hahaha Bono looks like the main-characters best friend in Big! :D
@skrason I think the word is guts ( in reply to "I'm not even sure what "it" is, but if you've seen U2 live on a good nite, you know what I mean.")
love unforgettable fire
