Thank you for this story. Every other person on You Tube has blamed Gene Clark, solely, for the performance fiasco at the Troubadour. Specifically at least two parties claimed the performance at the Troubadour that night was a disaster because "Gene showed up drunk", when in fact, the entire band minus one person was pissed as can be on acid and booze. And, to the person who said "who knew acid and vodka martinis were a bad combo. You must be kidding me? Everyone knew not to mix acid and booze, or acid and any other substance. But, this was the self indulgent sixties. Can the interviewee tell us who made Gene Clark the punching bag of so many know nothing commentators? He certainly had a drug/alcohol problem, but this story is a case in point. I think Jim McGuinn and David Crosby may have some responsibility regarding the attempted trashing of Gene's legacy. Gene was not credited for some of the songs he wrote and recorded with the Byrds, or for vocals he sang on the third Byrd album. And so it goes.

what songs or performances was he not credited for?.....as far as I know all his credits are in order

@@jamesmcintyre2008 Well, one I know of for sure is "Get To You" from The Notorious Byrd Brothers. McGuinn says Gene co-wrote it with him, not Hillman, who confirmed this. Gene apparently also sang on Space Odyssey and Goin' Back. I've heard conflicting reports about who plays harmonica on Captain Soul. McGuinn says Gene, others say Michael Clarke. They probably never imagined folks like us would care over 50 years later, but we do!

This is a clip from the film: The Byrd who Flew Alone. Track it down and watch the entire documentary which will give context to the clip. It’s a great film, especially for Gene Clark fans.

Too funny. Don Beck leaving before the end of the first song. Who knew vodka martinis and LSD were a bad mix back in 1968?
