Very helpful video, thanks for sharing it. My question is how do you make the UV light box?, it looks very cool.🎉

Thanks for a very well done demonstration. Just getting started and this is very helpful. Please make more such instructional videos for Cyanotype, such as making digital negatives and toning. Your observations about exposure time make perfect sense.

Excellent demonstration and fantastic test print, thank you! For newcomers I cannot stress enough the importance of sensitizing and drying under artificial light. I destroyed many of my early prints by being too relaxed about incident sunlight. It is still a photographic process and if you don't contain leaks when applying chemistry you will get fog just like photo paper or film. Incandescent lights are best. And don't skimp on paper quality because many cheap wood pulp products will cause premature darkening before you've even exposed them.

One question: with several companies selling cyanotype kits and solutions, what - in your opinion - makes yours the one to use? I make cyanotypes, am nearing the bottom of my two-part solution bottles, and am thinking of trying out a different manufacturer. No hurry! Have a safe and interesting weekend.

Does Bostick sell the synthetic sable 2” brush shown in the demo? In my brush search the brush is $40. What is the next choice? Thank you

I use the super cheap foam "brushes". Ive even used thickly folded papertowel. You just need a thin layer of the mixture.

You say to lift the the transperancy and mark the corner of the image. But you must have spread the solution beyond those corners or you wouldn't have a wide blue border surrounding the actual image area on the cyanotype. Am I missing something. USPS delivered my Bostick and Sullivan Cyanotype kit last evening and I am about to use it for the first time today. Best video I've watched, but that little thing confuses me.

you've more than likely answered your own question by this point, but for the sake of future readers i'll post a response. the edges of the negative are marked to indicate the minimum paper area that must be covered with solution. by going beyond those bounds, you ensure that all of the negative sits on sensitized paper and that a unique border is created by the brush strokes that extend beyond the negative. if you want a clean edge, then you'll need to either apply tape along the marked borders to prevent solution from reaching beyond the intended area or you can mask that region during the exposure process.

Did you say what size your paper is?

I exposed mine for 20 min by putting it next to a window and when I ran it under cold water it disappeared. I wonder why that happened and what do I do?

guess your window glass is a high grade product that it prevents quite a good portion of UV from the sunlight?
