Thank you once again! I love U.C. whether it,s bright spark students or aging alumni ! Always get a fright when the gong goes off at the end...! And l greatly admire and respect Mr Paxman... many of us will miss him when he retires.
As with the previous two sessions, I thought Paxman's Patience was severely tested. They just don't understand the game; if you want a high score, you simply must asnwer a lot of questions. Don't Dither On The Bonus Questions !! "Get on with it !!", as The Man would say.
I surprised myself with a total of four correct answers on this one! Guess I likely wouldn't advance to the semi-finals either. Haha! Thanks for posting these!
I note that Paxman was very clear to refer to James II as also James VII (Scotland), in a previous episode he allowed the answer James I for a question about the King of Scotland in 1595, who was at the time exclusively James VI- full marks this time.

Considering the questions were easier than for the students, and they have the advantage of many years of gathering knowledge, (since they were students themselves) they didn't do very well!!
so, the whole Christmas contest goes for 2 weeks (10 week days) take off 3 days for the final and 2 semi-finals, leaves only 7 days for the heats, so it doesn't fit to have quarter finals. they just take the 4 highest scores, regardless of win or loss to play directly in the semis.
Because they were slow and played a decent opponent. Rules aren't very fair, I'm afraid. Especially since there's a potential for steep difference in difficulty from episode to episode. But your opponents especially will affect your chances of advancing, to where the two best teams could theoretically both be eliminated if matched up against each other and scoring around, say, 150 points each where they each would've bested any of the other teams if matched up against them.
Bristol should've had it - great captain, good wins - but I'm not mad I don't have to see Twiggs again. She slowed the whole group down by not knowing anything and giving weird answers that were not worth a thought.
The presenter is a well respected news affairs programme presenter and interviewer. He's 72 and has now been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. He had announced that he will be leaving the show after many many years of presenting it.

From Denton, Texas, thanks for the effort of posting this. The quiz nights in the local pub leave something to be desired. :D
My pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it Grim.
Bristol would have gone through to the semis if they'd not been so freaking slow.
Your uploads are much appreciated; thank you for doing this.
Glad you like them!
Sure it's not a "real" episode but I'll give myself credit, this was BY FAR the best I've ever performed playing along with any episode of UC.
Same here! Many of the questions were right up my street!
You see what a good middle class upbringing can do for you.
Paxman is like that teacher everyone was scared of in school.

I can't believe it, I got 18.
I would never get that many in an actual university challenge heat 🤣

The human biology and dog breed rounds really helped. I got lucky!

Bristol came so close!!! One main question and one bonus question answered correctly and they would have reached 140 points...
Paxman was just like the worst bullying teacher at times.
I think he plays it up for these series - there is so much time wasting compared to the student version.
@@jeremykeens3905 It is also supposed to be more lighthearted though.
@@marty9011 which I think he is being - like a panto villain: he does have a grumpy reputation
I find it much more lighthearted when he goes all grumpy.
he is deplorable. Sick or not he is a pig.
These questions are a lot easier than the regular program
Thank you so much for posting this.
Thanks for posting these, Tybalt!
Welcome
Disappointed that my old Uni didn't go on to the next round even though they won this match. Better luck next time Bristol.
Getting to hear a Courtney Barnett song on this show was a delight.
I thought it sounded dreadful!
Each to their own 🤣
14:32 i don't think i ever noticed before that the scores are on the contestants screens when not used for something else.
Starts at 4:59
One wonders why some of the team members are even there
Do it! Do it now!!
I didn't watch the Commonwealth Games but I did guess the team logo starter.
I wonder how 🤣
Ha ha Billie Eilish answered so quickly - not by me - and I couldnt answer any of the other music questions. But I was fine on turpentine and seaweed!
A music round featuring Billie Eilish, Kendrick, Courtney Barnett... really showing the contestants age.
You are showing your infantility cowering behind an imbecilic fake name.

In some cases they may have known the answer but couldn’t recall it in time; i.e. Helen Keller. It happens when you get to a certain age 😊
thank you for posting
You're welcome
So does anyone know if York made it to semi's? only here for Tom Scott
they definitely made it to the semis - their score of 200 is highest so far.
28th December - University of York vs University of Hull
29th December - Balliol College vs Exeter College
wait why didmt bristol go into the semis even if they won?

only top 4 highest-scoring winners will play

All a bit dull and all very slow, not very good.
What a shame, this content will be banned in China for that contraversial wording around 20:50
And China deserves gifts from the UK, or were looking forward to this episode?
It will be lauded in the real China, which this question concerns! 😉
I sincerely hope they don't make another series like this, it is simply awful.
It should improve in the semi-finals
Time for different, less crusty, less condescending, more articulate moderator!
