    I would also like to mention- people should be aware of compassion fatigue! I’m in no way trying to put people off, but from what I’ve heard and seen, many vets really struggle with their mental health and the profession has one of the highest suicide rates. So if, like me, you want to get into the profession, please please please make sure you’re actively taking care of yourself! ❤️

    I’m studying at vet school right now! It is really hard work and very competitive, but very interesting. For the people who read this and want to be a vet: don’t give up on school and get as lot of experience as you can before going to vet school! Exam periods are best described as a rollercoaster, but very worth it😊 You can do it!! Great video Jade 😻

      @@leondaspleen8583 Hi! I'm studying at Ghent, so the system is a bit different. You should definitely choose an A level for Biology and Chemistry. I've also taken maths and physics at A level. Every vet school has different entry requirements, but with these a levels you can most likely get in 😊

      Heyy, just keep thinking about your end goal and how happy and relieved you'll be once you have achieved the best grades you are striving towards. I know at times it can be EXTREMELY stressful so I would say take time off for relaxation, meditation, binge watching Netflix always helps 😉. Try not to let the stress overwhelm you as it is only temporary so prioritize your time, have fun and GOOD LUCK. 💛💛💛

    I found this video really interesting. I'm lucky enough to be a vet student and you're totally right about the lack of resources, I remember flying blind most of the time. It's nearly always about the people you know, I had vet friends and pony club that really helped me when applying. If I could give advice it would be to find someone who can guide you and help you out- it makes a difference and if you want to get in, then keep trying because you'll get there in the end!
    Thanks for appreciating how much hard work it is; it's exhausting, hard and financially draining but I wouldn't change it for the world!

    Hiya Jade! I just want to let you know that you are a huge inspiration to me. I’m currently in year 11 and taking my GCSE’s and hope to work in veterinary science in the future. Watching your content and seeing your success helps to keep me motivated when it comes to studying and I really feel that I can relate to you for so many reasons (perfectionism and peer pressure to do well). I’m a vet, I’d just like to say what a great video! So informative and helpful for anyone aspiring to work in the veterinary profession. It can be the most rewarding yet incredibly tough industry to work in, both emotionally and physically. Unfortunately it’s not all about cuddling puppies and kittens all day, and you could never truly understand what’s involved in the job day to day without undertaking all the relevant work experience. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else that’s for sure, but it’s certainly not for everybody. Videos like this are so great at giving people an insight into the profession and I wish there were more similar resources available online for aspiring vets.

    I’m currently a Vet student at Uni of Liverpool. The only thing I would say is be careful doing work experience early, unis only accept work experience 2 years prior to application. You may as well focus on your studies and do some things for fun as apposed to hard core work experience x

      Hi, I know that this was from two years ago, but was wondering as a student in year 10 and wanting to go into vet med. how much work experience in those two years would you recommend? And is that 2 years from the application date ( usually 15th October) . Thank you!

    Oh my God i follow you since i dont know 2 years and i didn't know it. Actually i am studying vet med in spain i am in my first year and althought i haven't started the real practices i can say that if you love medicine and animals vet med is awesome but it is really hard and it is necessary to study hard due to the fact that you have to know the anatomy of different species from a dog to a sheep. Any ways from my point of view is a really beautiful carrier and i really love it.

    Having so far got an offer from Liverpool for vet med (very excitinggggg) , they changed it from 11 to 5 weeks I believe, but tbf I always thought it was best to just get as much as possible as long as it's over five. Still waiting to hear from others and it's so stressful to wait for ittttt!!!! I think it's so true with the lack of information online tho! I found it so hard to figure out what I needed and the application process was crazy different to what I expected. It's really interesting to see the fact you switched your career path with such a solid idea of what you wanted to do because it always worries me that I've given myself this life path so early on that I'd suddenly find it wasn't for me. I love it so far though and really hope I can get the three As I need to get in! Love your videos Jade what an actual gem of a human being

    I'm an avid horse rider and I had no idea that you rode! That made me smile. Loading haynets is a struggle and they're surprisingly heavy haha. I agree with you about being unsure about zoos but I like zoos if they champion conservation and are aiming to breed endangered species, I am however hugely against institutions like Sea World. I always wanted to be a vet but I soon learned my aptitude was for humanities, not science, but I still love and am hugely interested in animals! Loved this video. I'm post A Level but this was really interesting. Hope Aus is treating you well! x

    I want to be an RSPCA inspector (ideal choice) or a zoo keeper. Possibly an animal Behaviourist or veterinary nurse and next time I go the vets with my dog I am asking if they have any placements with helping the recovering animals and cleaning. I already help my neighbour with her animals and am sure that she will write me a reference. I am 15 next month and if they say no then I will definitely try other practices. Unfortunately I don’t live in an area where there is tons of work experience with animals which is bad as like you said it’s very hard to get experience anyway. This video was really helpful. Thanks Jade. X

    Yes i agree, there is nobody sharing about work experience. Its wonderful that loads of young people already know that they want to be a vet. Wheras with me I didnt, I think more people should share about their experience if your a person that is from a different background than most, if your not a female, if you not a horse riding person (which most vets are). Its very hard for other people to know what to do if they were not brought up in the country on a farm or went to private school. I also think that the vet profession is largely dominated by women, im not saying this needs to change but it needs to have more appeal for men. Thank you for your video its very informative.

  • @jessica6967

    I relate to the stables - being taken for granted bc you're there for free :/ the workers being paid would sit with biscuits and some tea while I spent 4 hours climbing hills and mucking fields in the rain... then just before I finished they did all the hands-on animal chores so they wouldn't have to spend time teaching me ;-; And in the vet work experience I did the same, constant cleaning while the nurses pet the animals staying in and chatted to the animal carers... not even there to ask Qs I might have too. The vets wanted to put you off veterinary (saying if they could rewind time for themselves they would do a diff. career) the whole time too... super awkward. Doing volunteering in a kennels currently (love it bc I can be pretty independent but also have access to staff to ask Qs and politely & repetitively 😂 ask them how they are) , hopefully doing lambing in a few weeks (should push me out of my comfort zone x100) and starting at an alpaca farm soon :) The question is though - when to stop reapplying if I get rejected again?? Bc idk what other degree to do. Even if i don't want to be a vet in practice more than a couple of years, there are so many other careers it leads to, so I definitely won't regret getting into the degree. But I'll be missing out on the uni experience and my parents are desperate to get me out of the house to save money s: graduate route is waaay too expensive as well. I wish I was passionate about something else that was easier to make a start with \:

    I’m applying for vet med atm and I have an offer from Liverpool (it’s 6 weeks wexp now)! Unfortunately I got rejected from Cambridge but I’m still waiting on Bristol and Nottingham. For anyone else who is looking to be a vet, in terms of wexp I had: 6 weeks in small animal/exotic vet practices, a week lambing, a week and a half at a dairy farm, a week working at a stables and a few days at a canine hydro centre. I also did the same zoo course that Jade did! Most unis only take into account the work experience you did in the last 1.5-3 years (so I actually only had about 7 weeks worth) and for Liverpool they are very specific in terms of which species you need to have experience with.

    • @lydiabradley8198
      @lydiabradley8198 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What Jade said about keeping a diary is soooo important! Every single interview I’ve had they have asked me for case studies so you need to write them down. Your personal statement should include things to do with what you’ve learnt about the profession as a whole e.g. the role of finance in the veterinary practice.

    • @lydiabradley8198
      @lydiabradley8198 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you so much!! I’ve always wanted to work with animals and getting work experience is so hard. I also find myself being silent and observing- I’m so shy! It’s really enlightening seeing that you managed to come out your shell. I have work shadowing coming up and I’m so nervous because I can’t talk to any of them- questions just leave my mind! What made you choose to do Biological sciences instead? This video was so useful x

    thank you for this video... what you talked about the work experience environment is literally what i had gone through this year... i am a btec animal management student, and i did 315 hours of work experience in a riding school but whole year i literally was the most timid person in the yard... i was not talking to the other working people, i was scared to talk with anyone because there was this amazing pressures of being in a foreign country about just one year and surrended by native british people, and my speaking english was not nearly good, so i was always stay silent while they always talking about somethings... however, even i felt like about to quit, i kept on going there, and in the summer, i attended like 11 days in a row cuz i needed to finish off my hours. in that time i literally gain the trust of my eployer and it still feels like crazy, she was seemed too intimitating to me and i was so shocked when she counted on me with the new work experience people. maybe she did think like oh this girl is been here about like 8 months, i think i can trust her now, but no matter what, being recognised and trusted on the work is literally the best feeling. still feel awkward and shy around the staff and working people but i hope i am ready to come over this. (btw i did made lot's of mistakes and confusions but keep going guys cuz unless you commit crime nothing will turn you more than experience with great skills)
    another thing is, getting a work experience in a vet clinic seems very hard, because being persistent is not even working on some clinics, or i just don't use the effective way to get in. does anyone have any solutions about this, like how should i use my speech to get the experience? because i have limited time for the vet med applications now and no near to done with my vet clinic experience... plus being a animal management student does not help with the entry requirements since 2 out of 9 vet medicine schools does accept btec animal management with peak grades😭

    This is honestly exactly what I needed. I have always wanted to be a vet since I was in primary school but I am also vegan (like you!) so am unsure about some of the ethics involved as the vet course at uni involves slaughterhouse work experience and many of the animals for dissection may have been killed for this purpose ect so I am currently searching for some animal/veterinary work experience to form some more opinions on this, see if the job is right for me, and obviously to gain experience! I think that I would love the career itself, because as you said, it’s really rewarding and I care so much for animals, am not too squeamish, enjoy practical work, absolutely love science and would very much enjoy a varied career where no two days are the same and I suppose that despite there being many things I disagree with in the uni course, the dissections are vital for helping future vets to be able to help many more animals (and they would are interesting too!) as well as the fact that if I was a qualified vet I would be in a better position to bring about change. 🐴🐹💕 thank you so much for another incredible, funny and inspiring video 🐈🐶

      I’m in a similar position but the way I see it, I think of how many animals I could save if I manage to become a vet. I know quite a few vegan vets that are balancing both - they generally do a lot of charity work :)

      I'm a vet student also. There can be ethical issues with the degree itself but of course once you graduate you can avoid large animal work.

    • @jessica6967
      @jessica6967 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      UK unis use dissection animals that have not been killed for the sole purpose of dissection. However, some animals are still purchased, so that's money going to greyhound racing, kill-shelters ect. But there's gonna be a load more ethical dilemmas. Thankfully, there are a lot more vegan vet students than there used to be and this way practices can be questioned/challenged, leading to some positive changes :)

    Hey Jade can i start of by saying how much i love your videos. You are truly amazing and inspiring ! I was wondering if you could make a video about AQA's English Literature exam. As a student who is about to do their GCSE's in a few months, i am terrified to do the English Literature exam. We have to remember 15 poems and an entire book to analyse im the exam. We don't lnow which poem we're gonna receive. On top of that this part of English Literature's component is where we get our most marks. We have other books to learn aswell such as Macbeth, Jekyll and Hyde etc. The main thing that frustrates me is that AQA forgets that we jave othet sujects. All this exam is doing is testing our memory not our actual knowledge

    Hi Jade I just want to say you are such an inspiration and a BEAUIFUL person inside and out. I am in the first year of sixth form studying maths, chem, bio and english lit. I really want to be a vet and go to surrey vet school 😀

      Study Owl 1 I am considering chem, bio, English lit for a levels - does it work? Xxx

    • @Jade.H01
      @Jade.H01 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@medicinewithindia hi I definitely thinks it works for me. The sciences and maths go together of course and the english lit gives you a bit of variety in exam style because it is essay based and you get to be a bit more creative whereas the science exams are more logical and problem solving (A level sciences are not like gcse either as the questions are based on application and applying your knowledge and thinking outside the box as such, especially biology). English lit A level is A LOT more work than gcse and can be very stressful at times as you need to do a lot of reading around the subject and be willing to put in extra work and keep up to date on notes. You will be fine though and Im sure you will really enjoy it but just pace yourself especially when things get stressful. Universities do like to see english lit because it means you can think outside the box and have good written communication skills and can support your argument. Sorry this was such a long and rambling reply but I definitely enjoy it ans if I went back in time and pick subjects again, I would pick the exact same options 😀

      Study Owl 1 thank you! I’m actually reconsidering uni and might do medicine instead but take a gap year between yr13 and uni to learn Spanish and travel. I love to read and bio, chem, and eng lit (too lazy to type 😂) are probably some of my strongest subjects xxx

    Still wanna be a vet here. Second year applying to uni. Finding work experience is so hard 😅 every (affordable, travel-able) place has been like *nope*. For me it's interviews that are a week spot. They go well for me, but compared to other applicants, it wasn't well-enough :/ hopefully there's hope for Bristol still, bc they usually don't do interviews 🤞
