  • I finally got around to planting the large Keter planter and I will periodically update on how it is doing. We will have to see what grows as the seed labels I had fell out so the veggies or fruits we get will be a surprise!

    Lettuce should be direct soil planted. They only take a few days to come up. If you would have mixed your castings with that coir and some soil you would have had better luck with your seedlings. To keep your plants from bolting you need your seeds close to light. I hope you hardened those seeds off before putting them outside. If not, they will probably croak. Good luck with that mulch you bought, why not put castings in it first? Isn't that what you raise your worms for. Hope it works out for you. Lots of different plants in a small space.

    I bought this planter last year, and will plant in it for the first time soon. I’m hoping to put castors on it to make moving it easier.

      Casters are a great idea! Let me know how they work out!

    I love my ELEVATED garden beds should I drain the water out from last year and all winter long?

    • @WorldComposting
      @WorldComposting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would recommend draining. During the winter I leave the drain plug open so water runs out as sitting water can become a hazard.

    I would recomend "PROMIX BM. That was mulch in those bags. Good luck anyway.

      I agree the bags said soil and I was disappointed with what came out. I'll but different stuff next time

    any update on how good the planter is?

    • @WorldComposting
      @WorldComposting  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It seemed to work well. The problem is it is a perfect height for the deer so they ate all my plants last year.☹️

    Would you please tell us how the planter held up. Any problems now that it is about two years old?

    • @WorldComposting
      @WorldComposting  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The planter has been great except that the deer keep eating everything in it. It has held up all winter sitting outside and has been down to 0 degrees and up to 106 degrees Fahrenheit without any issues. It has also been filled with water up to the top because I forgot to open the drain and also supported being frozen with water in it.
      I'm actually pretty impressed on how well the plastic has held up and the fact it still looks good.

      @@WorldComposting Have you found any accessories for protecting plants, like a cloche or a frame & cover similar to what VegTrug has for its planters?

      @@srjstallworth I have not but that would be a great addition. I will check around and see what I can find!

    How come u didnt mix in ur worm casting into the soil??

    • @WorldComposting
      @WorldComposting  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn't have any sorted and ready to go but I diluted them with water and added them that way after it was setup. Only problem is the deer came and ate everything ☹️

    I would be very upset if I bought raised bed mix and got wood chips, sticks and rocks instead. Second bag would have not been opened and would have been returned.

    • @WorldComposting
      @WorldComposting  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was a little upset but for me to run out and exchange it would have been a hassle. The worst part was my wife made me move it out back where it is harder for me to monitor and due to all the rain it kept getting flooded out.
      One thing I know is this can be filled with water and be just fine!

    Can you grow root vegetables in this planter

    • @WorldComposting
      @WorldComposting  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had potatoes growing at one point and had the deer not eaten the plant I would have had a good harvest.

    Would not recommend Keter. TERRIBLE AND EXTREMELY SLOW CUSTOMER SERVICE. Box was missing one of the legs. I called customer service and they said the replacement would arrive in a month. Multiple emails and two more months later, they finally reply back saying it will be another month. So if you are willing to risk missing or broken parts and have at least four months to spare (I am still waiting), it does hold flowers. I would find a better brand.

    • @WorldComposting
      @WorldComposting  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow that is good to know. I luckily did not have these issues and if something was missing I would take it back to the store right away. What are you looking to get instead of the Keter?

    • @thomfoz

      OMG, That's terrible to know, Clinton! Thank you for sharing your experience.
      On the other hand, we all need to understand probably all companies are struggling with the COVID thing. I had two horrible experineces with companies that for decades have offered me pristine customer siervice. Kitchen-Aid and Weber Grills. Around a month ago I needed both companies customer service and it was dreadful. With Kitchenaid I waited for THREE HOURS on the phone. The attendant explained me they were working "home office" with only 1/4 of the staff and the volume of customer service calls had skyrocketed 300%.
      I once needed Keter support (before COVID) and their customer service was much better than my expectations. It actually impressed me a lot because they quickly ran the extra mile and did a great job. I don't know, maybe they're having the same struggle as other companies. If I were you I'd give them the benefit of doubt and judge their service quality again AFTER the covid chaos is controlled.
      Also, have in mind that because of the COVID, millions of Americans had the same idea (start growing food at home). Have you noticed how difficult it is to find basic products now?
      I'm struggling to find a silly watering can. Almost impossible and when you find, it's one of those fancy vintage-looking models that cost $70-$120. Come on, $70 for a stupid watering can? Those simple plastic ones that cost $10 at most simply disappeared and when the stocks are repplenished they disappear from Home Depot within minutes. It won't surprise me if Keter is struggling with that too. The customer service attendant informed me (when I was finally able to reach them after hours waiting on the phone) they increased 14x the production for the raised planters (two models) and that's still not enough for the demand.
      By the way, I don't work for Keter and I have absolutely no relation with the company or any of the employees. I'm just a regular customer, just like you, that bought a planter thanks to this video and I'm absolutely loving it.
