We were taught this by Philippine and Thai commandos in mid 70 while on a survival course.. never got the hang of it ,but others were able to get a fire going.
Why, mate? Why so complicated? Next time, turn the whole apparatus upside down. Makes life easier and has more logic. The embers will fall directly onto the tinder. Your construction makes no sense to me, and then you even have to hold it over yer face in the air to blow it on without even seeing what you're doing. Fire saw is quite a quick method it seems, any vid I watched they have an ember within 1 minute.
