    Well, it is hard to imagine that the engine/tranny/rear end can be salvaged after being submerged then sitting out all these years. You may be able to free up the engine, but you would ruin it for sure if you attempted to start it. The engine would have to be completely dismantled and rebuilt... Same with the tranny, water got in there as well. Such a shame though, it was once a great car. Thanks for trying to save it...

    Gawd, I LOVE those cars, both the Caprices and Impalas! I own a 78 Impala AeroCoupe, 350/TH350, sleepered out. Got some goodies under the hood, everything else is factory/bone stock. Tilt steering, AM radio, and A/C, no other options. It's drag and daily drive, police steelies with dog-dish caps. I never got around to it, but did entertain the thought of running a 10 pound NOS bottle in the trunk. The car is silver blue.
    Glad to see Buff scoring that Caprice. Never owned one, but wrenched on a few. Right on, dude!
    Those wheels on that Caprice--damn, I wish I could score a set for my Impy like those, you know, just to see what they would look like on my AeroCoupe.
    Saw that little yellow ribbon sticker on that back quarter window: "1977 Car Of The Year." Damn right, it was!

    50/50 Acetone and ATF in the cylinders.

    That is a nice car considering it was flooded out. You may have to get a bore scope and take a look in the cylinders and oil pan and see what condition they are in. Hopefully you can get it running again. You will also have to check out the trans and rear end and see how they look.

    It’s just a shame. So many owners just drive them out
    to the field… why not garage it
    or Jack it up off the ground and
    build a car port over it??? It’s
    in very good shape. Lazy owner

    1977 car of the year, awesome machine, if i could go back in time i would have kept better care of mine and saved it, since it saved me so many times!

  • @Project_Low_Expectations

    50/50 acetone and ATF… synthetic if you want to make it expensive stuff.
    I would remove the plugs, and dump a half quart in each hole, or until it piles on the ground… whatever comes first. Then screw the plugs back in. Pour a bit on the stem of every valve since the top end is open.
    Then pull the engine and go through it. Dingleball the holes at a minimum with new rings. If the cam is pitted… just do what needs done and nothing more.
    If this thing has the numbers matching engine, and too much sentimental meaning, don’t mess up the engine.
    May as well send out the trans too since it’s hosed too.
    Some jack with a turd of a GTO told me to come over here… so here I am. 🤘🏻

    You are right about causing more damage trying to start it I think. Pull the engine and look at the bottom end would be the best course of action.

    Put some transmission fluid in each cylinder through the spark plug hole let it sit a for a day or 2. Then try to rotate the motor by hand short turns throughout the day using a breaker bar and socket. Works every time. Good luck

  • @BigBlock402
    @BigBlock402 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I agree with the comments below, you will need to look in the cylinders with a borescope. It may have too much rust to even break it free.. Good luck Buff and great video.

  • @MongrelsGarage
    @MongrelsGarage ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Well if he changed the oil right away the bottom end should not be too bad. I have used ATF to free up stuck engines in the past…the 68 Chevy Truck was really stuck. Of course the proper way is to pull it and take it apart… Now if your choice is between the Caprice and the Wagon, I say go for the wagon!

    I had a 78 Chevy caprice it was also a factory Chevy 350 car, but it was rusty and had no title me and my uncle just wanted it gone,it had a rusty frame under the rear and the floors in the front along with the bottom of the doors were shot,we sold it for a derby car it just needed more work than we wanted to put in it i wanted the long tail th350 transmission that was in the car only reason we even acquired it was the transmission and the replacement radiator.
