Hey guys, thanks for running my adventure. I've watched you for years so imagine my excitement when I saw you were doing a live-play of Paper Chase. Great job! I especially loved the way you involved the player characters up front. Keep up the good work.

You wrote a truly memorable and timeless piece of storycraft. This is the first CoC scenario I ever played, coincidentally in 1991 when this AP is set, and it changed the way I looked at roleplaying games forever. Thank you again. -Keeper Chad

Jill has the choker!! It's not the 90s without that choker.
Edit: I'd REALLY love more CoC and MotW. They're very similar, but the tones are very different. I want to see more of both. I'd also love to see Monty play more!

@@isaackarr6576 for the revolver it sounds like they researched it. Monty's intro sounded like a bunch of research. The weed thing sounds like it was maybe planned out or Monty just remembered. They certainly did a great job either way.

Honestly, this was much more watchable on TH-cam than the DnD. I've been the keeper before and if you write your own campaign I suggest creating many paths to your "end game". Also make sure to include several false paths that play on what your players would typically expect - like "the butler did it" or all the clues indicate its a vampire, werewolf, etc but is really something else. Suggested fun scenarios that I have played - 1) Players are 1920s gangsters hiding out from police in a haunted mansion, 2) Players are the Scooby Doo gang - and someone actually plays Scooby. We made it so he could not talk but had all the senses of a dog - it was hilarious.

Awesome time! Thank you for the chills! In my head-cannon, the effects of the mythos knowledge meant that they were never sure that this world was the same as the one from before their trek through the tunnels.
After a string of bad financial decisions and a breakdown in close relationships, one of them decides that this world is not the right reality and returns to the tunnels trying to find the original world from whence they came. It does not go well.

I really hope that you end up doing more Call of Cthulhu adventures in the future!! I really liked your take on Paper Chase!! You managed to bring something interesting to this scenario that I particularly enjoyed!! I love the chat at the end and how Kelly points out that the adventure is very Lovecraftian in the personal sense of dealing with a question... vs the battle with an eldritch horror. I think that lends a new level of appreciation to this scenario

Dungeon Dudes + Call of C'thulhu = possible Seth Skorkowsky cross-over? ❤ Pleeeeeeease.
I've always found odd how unsuited the CoC Rules are for playing the game; unless the Keeper treats investigative skill rolls as rolling to advance the plot without complications. So that it isn't "Do you succeed", but rather, "Do you succeed without a complication". Otherwise, the game can become a series of annoying dead ends.
A couple of extra giggleworthy moments from Kelly, "There is a missing MAN... uscript!" and "It's been a year... he's PROBABLY dead..."
I miss Joe; however, the small group did give Jill more of a chance to get a word in edgewise. 🤗

So happy to see you trying Call of Cthulhu and liking it. There are sooo many flavors you could try with it, as mentioned, the more "pulpy" feel for heroes facing of the Mythos head on, or ALL the shades of horror themes you can do in classic CoC, at the end all depending on the narrative and mature level you prefer. One of the things that I like to mention to people starting in CoC is that CoC is also not only about a " weird mythos monster" related mystery it can also be completely mythos unrelated and the system will allow a lot to be explored.

I'm so glad you guys tried this game! I've run it many times. It lends itself well to one-shots and mini-series. I've even run some campaigns but when I do that I always warn players not to get too attached to their characters. They tend to deteriorate over time, especially since Cthulhu Mythos Knowledge lowers your maximum possible SAN.

Loved the adventure, and I would love to see more COC from all of you. What I find most interesting is that the players have a very reasonable to likely chance of dying, because in your other games in dnd that threat of death seems to be very very minimal. The threat of death at anytime I think keeps the story incredibly interesting. I believe Pulp Cthulhu takes a bit away from that, but the tradeoff is being able to have fun going toe to toe with the monsters of the mythos.

very cool guys - I really really hope you guys play again. I like D&D a lot, but CoC was the first RPG I played and I'm a big fan of Lovecraft as well and so it has a special place for me. Would love to see you guys play again if you get the chance and are inclined. Great job.
oh heck yeah, I was on the edge of my seat too.
They do have an official version of CoC that is for present day - so you might could check that out. That could be cool to do an x-files type CoC campaign, that's a really good idea.
For a future game I think it would be cool for you to stick with those characters - and have it that maybe this adventure got into their heads and they came back together out of a growing obsession to learn more. Not necessarily even about this specifically, but maybe Melanie used the inter-library loan to order some mythos-y books and shared some of the info with Norman. And then they could learn there's more mysterious stuff in their local area to gradually investigate? You can use their scenarios - and there are tons of fan made mysteries as well online - or its also not as hard as it may seem to make up your scenarios too. In terms of thinking it would be hard to make your own, remember that you're just getting used to this system too, and you've made a ton of D&D homebrew stuff. I think you'd absolutely be capable of doing it on your own. If you want a slightly different, and perhaps even a bit more D&D like, if you do get the core rule book, it should come with an intro adventure that skews a little more toward that type of story, while still retaining this side of it as well. So, you might want to look into that, because it might give you some additional ideas about how CoC adventures can run as well. I think its the same mission in the latest version - they used it for years and years with new additions, just updating it slightly. Its about a haunted house type scenario (just as a frame of reference to compare, in case they did happen to change it out for a different scenario, but I know I have the original CoC core book and then I think I have the 6th ed perhaps and I'm pretty sure it was still the same adventure as of then.

I’d love to see more CoC coverage. I really enjoyed this play stream. Its one of the few 2+ hour play-streams I’ve watched from start to finish. Well done.
Monty, I loved your character. Hilarious. Kelly: loved your edgy 90’s librarian. Good work all. 👍

Love the effort to focus on the proper ambience, peaked when discussing car models XD

Highly recommend Fear's Sharp Little Needles, and specifically Unland by Scot Durward. They are more modern takes on CoC stories and scenarios, which is fantastic.

Great video, really enjoyed your play-through.
Only thing I thought was missing was using LUCK. It's one of the best mechanics of the game.
Not only can it save your butt when you need a successful dodge or brawl check.
But it works best when you spend a little here and there and before you realise it your luck is running low...It really ratchets up the tension!

This was great! It is honestly a tough choice between this or MOW. Both are amazing to watch, but I agree with the commentary by Jill and Kelly. This is much more serious are real feeling, while MOW has more slapstick. Neither would be a bad choice to continue!! Love y’all!!

would LOVE more CoC! I keep bugging my friends to play some and it’s always a treat to see the TTRPG people I follow play some CoC. considering what we’ve already seen with Drakkenneim, I fully believe that Monty can make something that will knock it out of the park 😊

I watched on twitch but wanted to say that I loved this ep. I also love monster of the week and I'm very keen for drakkenheim to be interspersed with a bit of both different games!
