As a Man who came from that way of life ( not entirely but enough), this scene legit makes me tear up because that young man has two choices in life, take the chance at a better life, “domestic responsibilities” aside, or ruin the life he has further, that world is truly Death and suffering for money respect, and when the dead won’t let you sleep, everything is in hindsight suddenly. My mentor growing up gave me a similar speech, told me to make a choice “ Live as a Man or Die as a statistic”. It definitely needs to heard by modern young men, they lack the discipline to do what they have to, the shit wasn’t about killing each other over petty things, it was about elevation.
It's the reality for all men who don't have a father to help them. The word's here are correct, be appreciative of what you have, being alive and being able to make decisions. God determined that was all a man needs to make his own path in life and earn whatever he wants. Don't waste it by trusting others to guide you because these other men often will lie to you and use you for their own purposes. Make the right decision, don't make excuses for the wrong decision.
The kid was so excited to be working with Denzel. He was speechless when he saw Denzel on the red carpet and when he talked to him and told him that he's working with him in a new movie, Denzel response was: "Well I'll see you at work on monday then." I'm so happy for him
that's what he said to the Pedro's gang outside his house while carrying his child: "I'll see you AT WORK" Like, enough to hear, for you to better don't show up and send your immediate resignation letter by FEDEX or fax it
"You have no idea what death is!" .....The way Denzel delivers those lines, it's almost like it's not some lines in a movie script with fake emotion but something personal he actually experienced, you can feel the weight behind the words in the way that he delivers it.

"What do you see what you look at me? You better give me a right answer. What you see, killer? What you see?!" Miles is so innocent that he can't see the face of Death one inch from his own.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit to learn that Denzel specifically asked for a scene _like_ this to be added to the script, because that's what he does it in real life: he loves people, and wants to help those in need of help -- or intervention. It's just the kind of warm, caring person that he is.

If only we had more mentors (if not fathers) to show how close this generation is to throwing their lives away, and to demonstrate what real strength looks like. GREAT scene!
Agreed however those who want minorities to stay in poverty don't want that. Why else do they demonize successful black people like Dr. Ben Carson who grew up in the projects and became one of the top neurosurgeons. Also they took away the history of the woman who portrayed aunt Jemima in the name of eliminating racist things even though she was successful during the time when the south was racist towards blacks. In effect they said if a black person did it we can take the accomplishment away if it helps promote racial equality.

This film wasn’t necessarily on par with the original, but this scene really stuck with me. The frustration, the disappointment, and anger. I think we all feel what Denzel feels when we see a young man that feels like they have no choice but to choose this life path. I’m a white guy and have no idea of the social pressures like that young kid faces. But we all wish that there was a way to save them from that life in the way Denzel did. During the George Floyd riots I asked once what it's like in the hood as I wanted a better understanding. F*** This scene is AWESOME. The end, "I don't want to hear nothing about yo mama or the white man putting you down, you got a chance, TAKE IT while you're still alive." It's a 9/10 from me.
3:30 you'll notice where Denzel's finger is, and then you'll notice that the hammer is down. That gun might have an internal hammer, but it might not. It's equivalent to the joker holding the hammer down so Harvey dent can't shoot him. Doesn't make the scene any less hard, but it makes you see how smart he is. There might not even be one in the chamber.
Looks like a 1911, which is a single action semi-auto....no internal hammer....so it's not going to fire with the hammer down (at least intentionally....with the old ones....say 50+ years old....if you had a round chambered and dropped it on the hammer it could cause an accidental discharge....but most newer ones have safety features which prevent that).
Sharp spotting that... yeah, neither McCall nor the kid were going to fire it in that condition - and it's not the gun he picked up. He had that one for *educational purposes.
@@chillylizerd what do you think the soldiers do in their down time assclown? They watch movies like us for fun and talk about how cool Denzel is... @@Morris2182 The point he was making, and sailed right over your head, is that actors are idolized. It isn't dangerous work, it's an adult playing a child's game of dress up and pretend - they are idolized, and celebrated. You don't hear any praise or songs of valor until after they die - which is a little too late don't you think? So what if the soldiers watch movies? Why do you think you have the ability to watch movies at all? Be a little introspective bud.
This scene always makes me emotional coming to the end because I keep thinking about all those young boys and girls who could be and could've been saved if one person just showed them an inkling of genuine concern for their well-being.
I like to think all the guys upstairs were gonna go after him but they heard his speech from down the hall and hugged it out. E: If you don’t feel the seething sarcasm, you probably need a hug.
THIS is what makes Denzel's Equalizer a cut above almost every other action hero. He's not out for revenge. He's out for redemption ... everyone else's redemption.
And do you realize that after Denzel leaves the room, none of them get up to go after him! That alone speaks how much they were terrified, and when the kid popped in then they got up and started yelling and standing 🤣
They way he pulls him in closer & closer making the aggressive yet gentle, hostile, yet loving motion really puts the icing on top of tht sequence. My older brother had one if these moments w/ me. the way he replies "why not you ?" so fast gives me chills, its one of the rare time when replying with a question sounds so accurate
"See what happens when you deal wit liars!!" - Immensely underrated quote
He gave some game
Denzel was preaching to us.... no matter how old we are. If we have life , we have a choice.... and a chance.
The "You have no idea what death is!" is so goddamn powerful
Amen...
A man who's snatched the life outta folks
Facts
"What do you see what you look at me? You better give me a right answer. What you see, killer? What you see?!"
Miles is so innocent that he can't see the face of Death one inch from his own.
@@razzberry5134 Hit that one Right on the head 💯 *no pun intended
It wouldn't surprise me one bit to learn that Denzel specifically asked for a scene _like_ this to be added to the script, because that's what he does it in real life: he loves people, and wants to help those in need of help -- or intervention. It's just the kind of warm, caring person that he is.
Do you know him? He's a great actor, for sure. Makes you want to believe.
@@jimmccarley9609 Denzel is the real deal . He was constant in his believes , every time he was asked about . Married with the same woman for almost 40 years . Has four high educated kids , never involved in any trouble. You can see that what he preaches in movies and media , is the same things he teaches in his own house.
@@bombonelnastase8031 It's his faith that makes him who he is.
@@jimmccarley9609 he paid for Chadwick’s freshman year when Chadwick was still in college. So yeah, Denzel loves lifting people up and do it constantly in real life
@@bombonelnastase8031 You don’t know him. You only see what he shows and that’s not to say you aren’t right. Alan Watt once spoke about how people are like an embroidery. We put the neat side in front for everyone to see and the messy side in back. And it’s very true, you only see what is portrayed.
Tells a young man what he needs to hear. Doesn't fill his head with promises of a great future but he does promise that he would be there for him till he finds his way. He needed a role model to help him keep to a path where he can truly be happy instead of walking down a path of least resistance that could get him killed at a young age.
I almost shed a tear everytime he says ''you don't know what death is''... dealing with death is so hard, it leaves us with pain for the rest of our lives. it's always there in our mind, until it's our turn to go
It's such a powerful line. Love it. This is the best acted scene from Denzel in this Equalizer sequel.
Denzel telling Miles about death, I was breathing a little harder when he finished speaking. Yet another performance that shows Denzel’s mastery, and solidifies once again that he is my favorite actor
If we don't have the mentors, why not BE the mentors to the new generation that they need.
@@JS-go1gu ... Most people my age never grew up, or developed any wisdom. And, those of us with that wisdom, aren't listened to... but instead mocked. Culture has changed, and with it, the death of tradition.
what the fuck you talking about? you constantly being groomed by gangs to kill people? its a fucking movie kid.
And blame things like gangsta rap, destroying an entire generation of an amazing race who has great potential and who were landmarks on many things like great music art, etc
This movie should be played in schools to teach everyone, Denzel is preaching
He spoke to every young blood thats lost in this world. His performance is off the charts.
I wish I could of showed my lil cousin this scene before died due to gun violence 💔
feels like he's talking to struggling, younger generations who struggle out there. Such a powerful scene.
I love how the gang all look at each other after Denzel leaves like they just witnessed something supernatural.
This was actually emotional.. How many young men need someone like this? a Father
You can feel this scene. You don’t just watch it, you FEEL it.
The acting in what could have been just another action flick has no reason to be this good. Denzel absolutely kills everything he's in and he's absolutely one of the best actors of all time.
Denzel is such a joy to watch on screen. The man kills it every time. What a talent.
Mr. Washington still sends chills up my spine. This man is one of the most talented actors I have ever seen.
Im actually impressed by the street smarts of the thugs that didnt give chase to Denzel. They saw how he walked right thru them and cud run it back if needed.
“Cud?” That’s for cows.
@@zen-Tii Thanks for the clarification.
I love how realistic their reaction after he left the room. lol

Well, when one guy cuts through your whole security. And leaves, it’s best not to extend your encounter.😂😂😂
The young actor stood up to the level of Denzel. He's got something, for sure. That last time he said, "Why me?" was superb.
This is actually a very powerful scene. To get in to it; one would have to paragraphs upon paragraphs. Denzel really is something else man. Grateful I grew up watching him. Amazing man he is.
What Denzel says to him about how he has a change, runs deep.
Youngsters these days need to remember that.
That speech in the end was phenomenal. That is why Denzel is the king. ❤️
Denzel is what makes this movie work and stand out among other action movies.
Definitely a 9,5 and I'll give "Man on Fire" a solid 10.
the ruin of it
Totally agree.
Man on Fire is such a great movie. For sure it's a 10!
I simply loved the dynamic of how a trained killing vigilante or assassin, whatever Bob McCall is, takes a young man in his arms and says there's another way!
He was in the army if I’m not mistaken, rangers and special forces
he says that because he knows what miles doesn't , he can see it throught in his eyes , hence he approached with close and intimate preach
@@Sennsseii He was a Marine. He was some sort of SpecOps. High enough tier that he worked with the CIA and other alphabet agencies in his life. It shows his uniform in this movie as I recall.

Another example of Denzel's greatness -- truly one of the best contemporary actors in the business.
Whats a Contemporary Actor?
@@DaFireman33 Contemporary just means belonging to or occurring in the present, so in that context it would mean he's one of the best living actors in the business.
Can NEVER go wrong with Denzel. Loved his work since St. Elsewhere.
What I love most about Denzel is many of his lines are improvised. You can't write lines like his, they just flow from the heart!
Yeah right no script just leave it to the actor dont think so !
@@garethjames1300 Bro's never been on set 💀
This film wasn’t necessarily on par with the original, but this scene really stuck with me. The frustration, the disappointment, and anger. I think we all feel what Denzel feels when we see a young man that feels like they have no choice but to choose this life path. I’m a white guy and have no idea of the social pressures like that young kid faces. But we all wish that there was a way to save them from that life in the way Denzel did. You can tell Denzel felt a personal obligation and calling to write in a scene like this. An Oscar performance in a relatively mediocre action sequel. Amazing scene.
"relatively mediocre action sequel."? Absolutely not. This film was at least on par with the original.
What does you being white have to do with any of that
@@hillbillylivesmatter2608 Just a way to shoe horn race in unfortunately.
@@hillbillylivesmatter2608 Just means I have no slight clue what its like to be brought up in the black ghetto.
@@hillbillylivesmatter2608 has everything to do with it unfortunately due to poor black people being kept oppressed by politicians of both parties.
That and the fact that most black people dismiss it when a white person asks what it's like living in the hood so they can get some sort of understanding and help them.
During the George Floyd riots I asked once what it's like in the hood as I wanted a better understanding.
I was called all sorts of names and was directed to a book someone wrote about living in the hood.
If black people refuse to explain what it's really like in the hood how can anyone honestly provide the help they need and improve things.
It all has to do with some Republicans and a lot of democrats in office not wanting blacks equal with whites.
When he said: “Your father, your momma just didn’t tell you!” 🤣🤣🤣
"You have no idea what death is..." I know that tone and those words. It comes from a person who truly knows loss.
Denzel was living vicariously through the character here and the kids great acting probs helped him go even deeper - his emotion here is real imo you feel it
nothing's real in movies
Gets me everytime! Every word Denzel spoke had ridiculous weight and if I was the one alongside him in this scene, I'd probably cry for a few seconds before responding.
2:39 forward is pretty much what every kid would benefit from. Maybe not with guns being pointed at one another but the hard truth. The reality. The love.
It's one of my favorite scenes from one of my favorite movies.
F*** This scene is AWESOME. The end, "I don't want to hear nothing about yo mama or the white man putting you down, you got a chance, TAKE IT while you're still alive." It's a 9/10 from me.

Denzel isn't acting here, he's straight channeling some experience that's shaped a part of him he chose not to become. Amazing
Deep 🤝
He couldn't shoot even if he wanted to.
Sharp spotting that... yeah, neither McCall nor the kid were going to fire it in that condition - and it's not the gun he picked up. He had that one for *educational purposes.
Denzel is an absolute GOAT. Best actor ever💯
Agreed!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Actor. There's soldiers out there living it and we worship actors... fun.
@@chillylizerd what do you think the soldiers do in their down time assclown? They watch movies like us for fun and talk about how cool Denzel is...
Fuckin talking about soldiers, what do you think those men and women are doing? Protecting our freedom to enjoy ourselves, we all are fighting our own fight right now
@@Morris2182 The point he was making, and sailed right over your head, is that actors are idolized. It isn't dangerous work, it's an adult playing a child's game of dress up and pretend - they are idolized, and celebrated.
Soldiers volunteer to stand between the innocent and a person with a gun to protect them. You don't hear any praise or songs of valor until after they die - which is a little too late don't you think?
So what if the soldiers watch movies? Why do you think you have the ability to watch movies at all? Be a little introspective bud.
Denzel is by far my favorite actor today ... as for the best actor ever hmmmm i would put him in the top 5 for sure ...
One of his most prolific and impactful scenes. He's speaking from real life experience and you can tell
"You don't know what death is... YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT DEATH IS!" Shivers, every time.

@Yung Murk perhaps but he still played the role perfectly nonetheless
@Yung Murk well I haven't even watched that show much so I don't know much about her but you seem to not like actors that are diverse in roles
Even when trying to teach a lesson Denzel is intimidating. Great scene.💯

This scene always makes me emotional coming to the end because I keep thinking about all those young boys and girls who could be and could've been saved if one person just showed them an inkling of genuine concern for their well-being.
What an actor! In a way it's just life itself, no acting needed.
…”You have no idea what death is!” Probably the best seen in this movie.
Facts man its so powerful, you can hear he's speaking from the heart, its a talk to our generation symbolised by that young man.
He said that because when he asked marvin what he saw when he looked at him, marvin said IDK, thus the line "you have no idea what death is"
I like to think all the guys upstairs were gonna go after him but they heard his speech from down the hall and hugged it out.
E: If you don’t feel the seething sarcasm, you probably need a hug.
Lol
That’s what I thought oo
No they know he's the real deal so unless they have a death wish which I am going to take it they don't they best stay put.

I like to think all the guys upstairs chose life instead.
THIS is what makes Denzel's Equalizer a cut above almost every other action hero. He's not out for revenge. He's out for redemption ... everyone else's redemption.

"You have no idea what death is!" Powerful. So powerful.
You can see so many action movies and great actors pulling it off, but none pull it off like Denzel pure badass when playing a hero or villain.
They way he pulls him in closer & closer making the aggressive yet gentle, hostile, yet loving motion really puts the icing on top of tht sequence. My older brother had one if these moments w/ me. It went from i thought i was gonna have to fight my brother to getting “it”. What unconditional love means, tht “im not gonna let u keep destroying ur life, ur gonna be punished by me worse than the world ur living is but im still gonna be here to love u so make a decision to get ur life together.” Man this scene takes me back but man i smile & cry haply tears cause it was a true pivotal moment of my life.
