What was the other reel that you use for wire, not the Penn Senator 113H

That was an older canyon reel. I’d stick with the senator with the brass or stainless spool

i only have braid setups. if i want to use a drail and spoon like u described, what’s the best way to control depth, especially if fish are marking mid-depths

Get good at running #1 and #2 planers. I've never understood why people let out so much line on deep runners and even shallow runners. Striper are not exactly afraid of prop noise.
