The Band Room was a large wooden building opposite the filling station, and not surprisingly, the HQ of Cliviger Band, but in WW2 is was taken over as Home Guard HQ for an area from the Burnley boundary to Thieveley and across from Deerplay Moor to Hurstwood and the Long Causeway. My Dad became CO of this unit, comprising about 40 men, many of them farmers, and I was schoolboy with a bike and sometimes was pressed to serve as a despatch rider when urgent messages had to be circulated. I used to very proud to be doing my bit! I could write a chapter about the activities of this group, on exercises or up on the Cliviger rifle range, all exciting stuff to a teenage lad, and my knowledge of routes across this area has stayed with me after tramping many miles with my Dad on reconnaissance duties. Alas, my mobility is not what it was but the memories remain!
As a local to Walk Mill can I say what an excellent series you created for the 8 local parishes around Burnley. Enjoyed them all, particularly the one for Cliviger. Keep up the good work and hope your car is now fixed !! By the way, the area in Cliviger between Holme Chapel and Overtown is Southward Bottom.

No signs as far as I could see to tell me what that area was. Google maps? Zero help. Local knowledge ftw!

Not sure, but I doubt it is. Bradfield (Sheffield) is surely bigger
