Twelve Stars visited Corydon, Indiana to film an interview with James Best, who portrayed Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane in the original Dukes of Hazzard series. This is the seventh part of 11 that will be released every Tuesday on our TH-cam channel.

I think Best's portrayal of Rosco is one of the greatest characters I've ever seen and he did not get enough praise and credit for it. Just marvelous acting! And crazy good for a TV show like the Dukes.

Oh yeah he was hilarious, and I always loved that funny laugh he would do, and I still sometimes do it just for fun. Lol.

I met James when I was about 12 or 13 at a classic car show in Chattanooga TN. He was a special quest and showed up in full Roscoe P Coltrane sheriff's uniform. He signed autographs and did pictures with fans all day long. Really nice guy and he went all out to entertain the kids that day.
And James Best also became one of the biggest stars on the show. RIP James Best & Flash. Thank you for making us all laugh through the years.
Mr Best, you had such an influence when on the Dukes of Hazard, that my brother...about 6 or 7 at the time....stood up in his bed, sound asleep...and quoted..."Ennis you dipstick!" in his sleep. You were his favorite Character on the Dukes. Thank you for such positive encouragement to many many young people growing up. The Dukes of Hazard made such a positive impact on so many lives, thank you for being a part of that influence.
You know a person is special and gifted when they can reel in new fans even after they've passed away. I'm in my mid 40's, and I'm watching my Dukes of Hazzard DVD seasons for the first time. Rosco instantly became my favorite character. I just love the way he talks, and all of his humorous body movements (and his love for his dog Flash). It's sad to become a fan after an actor has passed away, because you can never have the chance to possibly meet them, or tell them how much you appreciate them and everything they've done. I've seen him many times on westerns like Bonanza and Gunsmoke etc. But Rosco is the character that really highlighted James Best.

Thank you for taking the time and interview with james best.i wish i would have had the chance to meet him before he left us.But i finally went to his hometown and visited his grave THIS WEKEND 3-22-2022..RIP JAMES BEST.THANK YOU FOR YBE MEMORIES.
how many of us have ever said, "good, yud-yud, i gotcha you little rascal," while we were playing with our kids, or grandkids, or nieces, and nephews? I'm so glad the original show came back to HD.

Met this man on a backwater river in Inverness, Florida when Dukes of Hazzard was at its peak. Meeting him in a swamplike setting when I was a teen, I never let on I knew who he was. Wonderful man who loved to talk fishing. Great memories!!! RIP James

I LOVED the Dukes of Hazzard as a kid and still love it and watch it to this day. Mr. Best was sooooo good as Rosco, he makes me laugh so much! Such a wonderful show. Rest in peace James Best

My little ones watch Dukes of Hazzard now, and I always tell them how he came up with that line and how he would use it for his kids ect,, anyway thats cool hearing him tell the story!

I worked as a city bus driver in Las Vegas for many years. I was approaching a stop on my route one morning where a police officer had a suspect detained, in handcuffs and sitting on the curb. So I activated my bus's DriveCam, and in my best 'Rosco, I said,
"THAAAAT'S RIGHT, CUFF 'EM 'N STUFF 'EM! Ooooh, ah luvvit, ah luvvit, ah luvvit, gud-yud-yud-yud-yud. Come along, now, shame-shame, ev'rybody knows yer name..." At a Safety Meeting the following month, our Senior Supervisor played that DriveCam clip, which I am proud to say my colleagues found RIOTOUSLY funny.
Every Saturday afternoon this Irish boy became a good ol’ boy !!

The main reason for the remake of the Dukes of Hazzard not working is because they tried to put new actors to the same old characters... There is no possible way that anyone else other than James best could play Rosco... Same goes for all the others too, but James Best was the perfect man to play this part... He WAS Rosco... Don't get me wrong, they are all fine actors, Love Burt Renolds...And I quite enjoyed the show, But, It would have been way more succesfull in my opinion had they done a next generation thing instead...
just another note on that, Burt, should not have been (Boss Hogg), rather Boss Hoggs son... The way Burt played that part would be more like what a son of Boss Hoggs would be like....
TheFarmerfitz Maybe they could have had John Schneider or Tom Wopat play the part of the uncle (Bo or Luke) raising his nephews on the family farm.
JB85128 Yes... or at least something to that effect... The General Lee could have been to Bo or Luke(or both), like the (Black Tilley) was to Uncle Jessie... or somethin' or other.... They just needed it to be original, and somewhat believable like the original was.... And if they couldn't get Tom, or John to play the part, then maybe they could explain that away somehow... Maybe something happened in a car chase, or maybe they moved away for some reason...who knows...

How, in the name of God, did this show, and these characters, connect so strongly with audiences in England, where I have lived my life? This world of fast cars and fast-living characters is so damn foreign to us folks in the UK, and yet we lapped this world up like gravy. Daisy Dukes! Hell, yeah. Daisy Dukes!
We lapped them all up. Dukes, A-Team, Knight Rider, Street Hawk, Airwolf. I think it was because it was another world to us. As a kid I loved all of them.
Guess what's rarer than a general Lee? His car he be done been drivin in da show! I will find one an fix it up one day. RIP brotha best

Most people might not know this, but Best is a classically trained master thespian
and not just some flash in the pan who got a role he could play. Best could've almost
played any character. True master in his profession.

there were a few times that he walked off (gone fishing) to make the producers make the character more than just a howling rube...
Too bad they didn't stay in Georgia... the show looked so much better and was smarter.
